Chapter 101: Chapter 98: Borrowing the Bar

Xiao’er’s eyes widened in shock.

’A... god?’

Bai Juzhi continued.

"To find a hidden god in a place as big as the South Sea is a nearly impossible task."

"How many people does the Public Security Bureau have? How many Investigators?"

"So we have to do everything we can to increase our chances of success."

Bai Juzhi pushed up his glasses and went on.

"The probability of Dusk being in New Moon Village is three percent."

"The probability of him being at the Badawang Unfinished Mall is two percent."

"The probability of him being at the Cuckoo Abandoned Playground is one percent."

"Of course, there are many, many other places."

"These probabilities are all too small. Only Anxiang Street is higher, at ten percent."

"So, it’s better to change our working assumption."

Bai Juzhi paused.

"Let’s change it to: Is Dusk really on Anxiang Street?"

"The probability that he is on Anxiang Street is fifty percent, and the probability that he isn’t is also fifty percent."

Xiao’er’s jaw dropped in astonishment.

"Boss, that might seem like a forty percent increase in probability, but isn’t that just a gamble?"

’This is no different from a cardsharp’s gamble!’

’It looks like a fifty-fifty chance at the card table, but the reality is far from it!’

’Foreign casinos make their money off these false odds.’

Bai Juzhi gave a self-deprecating laugh.

"I’ve said it before. We’re facing a god."

"If we want to win against that god, our only option is to gamble—a gamble where we bet our lives and everything we have."

Xiao’er understood.

’The boss is already panicking in the face of this ’god’.’

Bai Juzhi glanced at his watch and said,

"They’ll be here soon. Let’s head to the Night Bar first and ask the boss for a place to stay."

He looked at the scar-faced man in the passenger seat.

"Number Three, same as always."

The scar-faced man nodded.

"Understood."

...

「South Sea, South District, Night Bar.」

In a luxurious private room, Bai Juzhi sat on a large sofa, sipping white liquor.

He wasn’t eating any fruit or snacks.

He wasn’t much of a drinker; he couldn’t even tell if he was drinking counterfeit alcohol.

Bai Juzhi simply enjoyed the kick from the alcohol.

Xiao’er was having a blast, his left arm around a Sweetie and his right hand clutching a microphone, wailing into it.

The Sweetie in his arms blinked her big eyes at Bai Juzhi and asked Xiao’er in a cloying voice,

"Who’s he?"

Xiao’er grinned.

"That’s my boss!"

The Sweetie was even more surprised.

"He looks more like a teacher than a gang boss! He seems really impressive!"

Xiao’er hugged the Sweetie with a wicked grin.

"Hehehe, impressive? Of course he’s impressive!"

"My boss here could take care of all you broads in this room, no problem!"

As he spoke, Xiao’er pushed a sophisticated woman in black stockings into Bai Juzhi’s lap.

"Take good care of my boss, and you’ll be able to do whatever you want in the South Sea."

The woman in black stockings feigned falling into Bai Juzhi’s arms, making eyes at him flirtatiously.

Bai Juzhi lowered his head awkwardly, feeling completely uncomfortable. His hand fiddled with his glass.

It was the first time the woman had ever seen such a shy rich man.

Her playful side emerged. She put a slice of watermelon between her lips and leaned in to feed it to Bai Juzhi.

Just then, the door to the private room was pushed open.

A dapperly dressed man entered.

It was the beverage sales manager.

Bai Juzhi’s group had ordered many Princesses and expensive drinks, so everyone knew that some big spenders had arrived in room 688.

The manager had come specifically to offer a toast.

"Big Bros, are you having a good time? Allow me to offer you both a toast."

Bai Juzhi, holding his glass, said drunkenly,

"Er, it’s time to get to work."

Xiao’er, still holding the Sweetie, drained his glass in one gulp in a toast to the manager and said with a laugh,

"Am I giving you enough face?"

The manager nodded repeatedly.

"Bro, you’re giving this little bro way too much face."

Xiao’er said,

"Then do me a favor. Go get your boss."

The manager grew wary, but kept a professional smile on his face.

"The boss isn’t in."

Xiao’er nodded and grabbed the hair of the Sweetie in his arms.

The Sweetie froze, unsure of what Xiao’er was about to do.

’He’s not so drunk that he’d do something that indecent in front of everyone, is he?’

Xiao’er grabbed the Sweetie’s hair and slammed her head against the table.

"AHHH!!"

The Sweetie let out a bloodcurdling scream. Broken teeth and bloody spittle sprayed across the table.

Xiao’er looked at the manager and said with a cheerful laugh,

"I’m trashing the place. Is the boss still not in?"

The manager glared, his eyes filled with fury.

"So you’re here to cause trouble!"

Xiao’er grinned.

"That’s right. Causing trouble."

The manager pointed at Xiao’er and snapped,

"Do you have any idea where you are!"

SWOOSH!

A cold glint of light flashed.

The manager stared at his own hand in astonishment.

His finger had been sliced off by a throwing knife.

Xiao’er was still holding another throwing knife.

"I don’t like being pointed at."

The manager screamed in terror, snatched up his severed finger, and ran outside.

Bai Juzhi continued to drink his liquor.

Xiao’er shoved the blood-covered Sweetie aside in disgust, pulled the sophisticated woman in black stockings back into his arms, and went back to his terrible wailing.

The other girls in the room trembled in terror.

’These aren’t big spenders!’

’They’re a pack of Yamas!’

Half an hour later, a middle-aged man with a distinguished air walked in.

This was the owner of the bar, Wang Qiang.

He glanced at the girl groaning in pain on the floor and said to the men behind him,

"Take her to the hospital."

Two thugs stepped forward to help the girl up.

"Did I say you could move?"

Xiao’er’s lazy voice cut in.

The two thugs stared at Xiao’er in terror.

Because in Xiao’er’s hand was a black gun!

Wang Qiang, who had never seen a scene like this before, forced himself to remain calm.

"Who are you people?"

Bai Juzhi stood up and smiled gently.

"My apologies. We caused a little trouble to get you to come over."

Wang Qiang watched Bai Juzhi warily.

’This man looks so refined, but my instincts are telling me he’s the most dangerous one.’

Bai Juzhi took a phone from his pocket and handed it to Wang Qiang.

When Wang Qiang saw the phone’s screen, his pupils contracted sharply!

On the screen were his wife, daughter, and parents, all inside a car.

His family was staring at the camera in terror, as if the person holding the phone was pointing some kind of weapon at them.

Bai Juzhi took the phone back and said,

"They’re on their way here. Don’t worry."

Wang Qiang panicked.

"Who in the world are you? Just tell me what you need me to do!"

Bai Juzhi said,

"We don’t need you to do anything. Just operate as usual."

"My friends and I will be staying here for a few days."

"We’ll need three meals a day, with meat. That’s all."

Bai Juzhi could have just had the Public Security Bureau call Wang Qiang and tell him to cooperate with the Investigators’ operation.

But Bai Juzhi wouldn’t do that.

’First, it’s too much trouble.’

’Second, the whole world would know he was at the Night Bar.’

Wang Qiang looked intently into Bai Juzhi’s eyes.

To his horror, Bai Juzhi’s eyes told him that these people really did just want to borrow the Night Bar for a few days.

Wang Qiang took a deep breath and pointed to the Sweetie lying on the floor.

"Can I take the girl to the hospital, then?"

Wang Qiang immediately realized he’d said the wrong thing and corrected himself.

"Not the hospital. I’ll take her out to treat her wounds."

"I know the rules. I absolutely won’t tell anyone what’s happening here."

Bai Juzhi sneered.

"Troublesome."

He pulled a pistol from his pocket and fired two shots into the Sweetie.

The Sweetie twitched once, then lay still.

...

The private room had been cleaned up.

Bai Juzhi glanced at the others and began to speak.

"We don’t have much time. Only three days."

Zhang Xiao’Er was taken aback.

"I thought this would be a long-term battle. Is three days enough?"

Bai Juzhi pushed up his glasses.

"To be honest with all of you, before I came, I asked the cat at the bureau to perform a divination for me."

Everyone held their breath, listening intently to Bai Juzhi.

Besides its formidable Combat Power, the black cat at the bureau was also absurdly accurate with its divinations.

Bai Juzhi said in a low voice,

"In three days, a great calamity will befall me."

Everyone present gasped.

Bai Juzhi continued,

"I had originally planned to lie low for a while and come to the South Sea after three days."

"But the appearance of the Sea Train disrupted my plans."

"Alright. Now, listen for your assignments."
