The Devil’s Reign:The first law of void

Chapter 121:Stage II=Sin Lord

  • Next Chapter

Seven become one.

The universe had fallen silent.

The Soul King was dead.

The greatest protector of the living had fallen at the hands of the greatest calamity of the dead. The battlefield that had once held countless stars was now scarred by their final confrontation. Distant galaxies twisted around newly formed black holes, while the remnants of shattered planets drifted through the darkness.

The Ghost King stood alone.

He had won.

After centuries of hatred, resentment, and an obsession that had consumed his entire existence, he had finally defeated the man he had sworn to kill.

Then why—

Why did victory taste so bitter?

He stared at the empty space where the Soul King had disappeared.

His hands trembled.

A moment ago, he had laughed.

He had declared himself the victor.

He had believed that watching his old friend fall would bring him the satisfaction he had sought for centuries.

But now that the battle was over, he felt nothing.

No triumph.

No relief.

Not even the satisfaction of revenge.

Only an unbearable emptiness.

"...You idiot."

His voice echoed through the dead universe.

"You absolute idiot."

He clenched his fists.

"Why didn't you fight back properly?"

No answer came.

"Why did you pull your punch?"

Still nothing.

The Ghost King lowered his head.

Then, for the first time in centuries, he remembered something he had tried desperately to forget.

A loaf of bread.

The Dream He Never Confessed

He had never wanted to become king.

Not really.

The throne had never been his dream.

Neither had power, authority, or the right to command the dead.

He had wanted something much simpler.

Something so ordinary that, somewhere along the way, he had convinced himself it was no longer enough.

He wanted to stand beside his friend.

That was all.

When they were children, the world had been cruel to them. They had been hungry, beaten, and abandoned. They had survived because neither had allowed the other to face that darkness alone.

Whenever his friend was punished for stealing food, he would save a little of his own portion.

Whenever his friend drank water to quiet his empty stomach, he would sit beside him.

And whenever the world made them feel worthless, they would dream about becoming strong enough to live freely.

The future Ghost King had been talented.

His friend had not.

But back then, that difference had never mattered.

He could always reach down and pull his friend forward.

He could always share his bread.

He could always stand beside him.

Then their lives changed.

The military discovered his talent. The world praised him. His strength grew. His rank rose.

And somewhere along the way, he stopped looking back.

Not because he had stopped caring.

Because he had assumed there would always be time.

Time to visit.

Time to talk.

Time to return to the days when they had been nothing more than two hungry boys against the world.

He had told himself that once he became the strongest, he would bring his friend beside him again.

He would give him everything they had once lacked.

Food.

Shelter.

A place where nobody could hurt them.

But his friend had remained behind.

And the day the previous Soul King chose his friend as his successor, something inside him had twisted.

He had mistaken disappointment for betrayal.

He had mistaken distance for abandonment.

He had mistaken his own guilt for an injustice committed against him.

He had never admitted the truth.

He had been afraid.

Afraid that his friend would become someone important and no longer need him.

Afraid that the boy who had once accepted a slice of bread from him would eventually forget the person who had offered it.

And so, when his friend was given the throne, he had seen it as the final separation.

He had believed that becoming the Ghost King would allow him to prove that he had never needed anyone.

What a foolish thought.

Now, the one person he had wanted to stand beside was gone.

And there was no rank in existence that could bring him back.

The Ghost King slowly raised his head.

"I never wanted your throne."

His voice broke.

"I never wanted this world."

He looked at his trembling hands.

"I only wanted to stay beside you."

The words disappeared into the darkness.

For a brief moment, he was no longer the Ghost King.

He was a hungry child again.

A boy sitting beside another boy in a miserable orphanage, sharing the little he had because he couldn't bear to watch his friend suffer.

He wanted to return.

Gods, how desperately he wanted to return.

He would abandon everything.

His power.

His title.

His hatred.

He would kneel before the previous Soul King if it meant he could change that one decision.

He would endure every humiliation the world could offer if he could hear his friend's voice one more time.

But the dead did not return simply because the living regretted their choices.

And a king who had spent centuries feeding his hatred could not erase that hatred with a single tear.

His grief hardened.

His trembling hands became still.

The emptiness inside him turned cold.

Then he laughed.

It was a terrible sound.

Not because it was loud, but because there was no joy left in it.

"Ah..."

He looked into the darkness.

"Now I understand."

His friend had spent his entire life protecting a world that had taken everything from them.

The orphanage had exploited them.

The military had turned children into weapons.

The powerful had climbed over the weak.

And the people who had praised the Soul King had celebrated his strength without ever understanding what it had cost him.

The Ghost King had once wanted to become strong enough to stand beside his friend.

Now his friend was dead, and the world he had protected continued to exist.

The Ghost King slowly opened his arms.

"Tell me..."

His voice carried across the fractured universe.

"What exactly was I protecting?"

The darkness answered with silence.

His expression became empty.

"If this world takes everything from those who have nothing..."

His soul energy began to surge.

"...then let it lose everything."

The surrounding stars flickered.

The remaining ghosts bowed instinctively as an enormous pressure spread through the dimension.

"I will tear down the military."

A planet in the distance cracked.

"I will destroy the system that turns children into weapons."

Another world disappeared beneath a wave of darkness.

"And I will bring this rotten world to its knees."

The Ghost King turned toward the dimensional rift.

"I have no throne to claim anymore."

His eyes burned.

"No friend to return to."

He took a step forward.

"So I will destroy the very world that taught me to become a monster."

The Ghost King began walking toward the crack in space.

He had lost his purpose.

And a being with nothing left to lose was far more dangerous than one who still had something to conquer.

The Evolution of Seven

Far away, upon the remains of a dead planet, Lucifer Morningstar sat atop a mountain of defeated ghosts.

He had been waiting for the system to finish processing the enormous quantity of karma points he had accumulated.

His expression was unusually serious.

Not because the Soul King had died.

Not because the universe was trembling.

And certainly not because the Ghost King was preparing to unleash his wrath upon the living.

Lucifer was staring at his status panel.

[EVOLUTION COMPLETE.]

[SEVEN DEADLY SINS — STAGE II UNLOCKED.]

[NEW AUTHORITY ACQUIRED: SIN LORD.]

Lucifer's eyes narrowed.

"Finally."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

He had spent this entire life fighting with an incomplete vessel, restricting his power, and compensating for the difference between his true self and the body he currently inhabited.

His Seven Deadly Sins had been powerful individually.

Wrath amplified his destructive power.

Gluttony devoured energy.

Lust converted pain into strength.

Greed manipulated time.

Envy analyzed his opponents.

Pride copied techniques.

Sloth erased his presence.

Each sin had been a weapon.

But weapons were only as effective as the hands that wielded them.

Stage II changed the rules.

The seven authorities no longer existed as isolated abilities.

They had begun to strengthen one another.

Wrath could intensify Gluttony's absorption, allowing him to devour energy more aggressively as his destructive power increased.

Lust could convert the pain endured during battle into energy that fed the other sins.

Greed could stretch his subjective time, allowing Envy to analyze an opponent's movements, techniques, and weaknesses with extraordinary precision.

Pride could improve copied techniques almost immediately, while the other sins supplied the energy and time needed to refine them.

Sloth could conceal his presence even as the other authorities continued operating.

Every ability could support another.

Every weakness could become an opportunity.

The seven sins had become a single, interconnected system.

A predator that could study, adapt, endure, and evolve while hunting its prey.

Lucifer read the final line.

[STAGE II: SIN LORD]

He leaned back.

Then he laughed.

"Now that's more like it."

Chirin's voice sounded inside his mind.

"You've finally stopped treating your abilities like seven separate toys."

Lucifer smirked.

"I was waiting for them to grow up."

"They are literally manifestations of deadly sins."

"Exactly. Terrible manners."

"You are the last person qualified to complain about anyone else's manners."

Lucifer ignored her.

His gaze moved to the surrounding battlefield.

Countless ghosts had gathered in the region, drawn by the immense power released during the kings' confrontation.

Some were fleeing.

Others were searching for prey.

A few had noticed Lucifer sitting upon the remains of their kind and were now approaching with considerably less confidence than they had possessed a moment ago.

Lucifer stood.

His smile widened.

"Well, I've finished my preparations."

He lifted Chirin onto his shoulder.

"Let's see what this new body can do."

But before he could take another step—

the universe changed.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

Something that had existed before the stars, before the worlds, perhaps even before the rules that governed existence had been established.

A presence stirred behind Lucifer.

The defeated ghosts stopped moving.

Then they began to tremble.

One after another, they lowered themselves toward the ground.

The pressure was not an attack.

It was not even an intentional release of power.

It was simply the consequence of something being there.

A silhouette emerged behind Lucifer.

Tall.

Motionless.

Its outline was almost human, yet no ordinary description could properly capture it.

It possessed no need to demonstrate its authority.

Existence itself seemed to recognize it.

For an instant, the distant stars appeared to bend away from its outline. Space distorted around its feet. The rules governing the surrounding dimension faltered as though reality had suddenly remembered something it had desperately wanted to forget.

The silhouette had no face that Lucifer could clearly see.

Yet the darkness around it seemed to deepen whenever its gaze shifted.

It was the shadow of Lucifer's true self.

The being he had been before countless lives, before weakened vessels, before the limitations of the world had forced him to conceal what he was.

A forbidden existence.

Something the Abyss could not bear to look upon directly.

Something that even the heavens feared to acknowledge.

Something before whom gods would lower their heads—not because he demanded worship, but because their instincts recognized a presence they could not comprehend.

The silhouette stood behind Lucifer like an ancient sovereign returning to his throne.

And Lucifer—

did not look back.

He merely glanced at his newly evolved status panel.

"Interesting."

Chirin's voice had gone quiet.

"Lucifer..."

"Hm?"

"Do you know what's standing behind you?"

Lucifer smiled.

"Of course."

He raised one hand and closed the panel.

"It's me."

The silhouette slowly faded.

The pressure vanished.

The ghosts remained motionless for several seconds before their instincts finally returned.

Lucifer adjusted his coat.

He felt no grief for the fallen Soul King.

No sorrow for the destruction of their battlefield.

No desire to avenge a man he had barely known.

The death of the Soul King was simply a fact.

A powerful warrior had fallen.

His successor—or rather, his enemy—remained alive.

And that enemy had demonstrated a level of power Lucifer desperately wanted to test.

His heart beat a little faster.

A genuine smile spread across his face.

"So, Ghost King..."

Lucifer looked toward the distant dimensional rift.

"Show me what you've got."

He had no intention of saving the world out of a sense of duty.

He had no intention of avenging the Soul King out of sympathy.

But he would not allow the Ghost King to destroy everything before they had their fight.

That would be a waste.

And Lucifer Morningstar hated waste.

The Thing Beyond Darkness

The Ghost King was almost at the rift when he stopped.

Something had changed.

At first, he assumed it was a remnant of the Soul King's power.

But no.

He knew the Soul King's energy.

He had spent centuries fighting against it.

This was different.

Far different.

A pressure was spreading through the space behind him.

It was not as overwhelming as the Soul King's power had been.

It was worse.

The Soul King had possessed immense strength, but his presence still belonged to a system the Ghost King understood.

This new presence felt as though it had no obligation to obey that system.

The darkness surrounding the Ghost King seemed to retreat.

His own soul energy stirred uneasily.

For the first time since accepting the power of the abyss, the Ghost King felt his instincts warning him.

Do not turn around.

He stopped walking.

Slowly, he looked over his shoulder.

A figure stood upon the remains of a distant planet.

Black hair.

Crimson eyes.

A relaxed posture.

A smile that carried neither hatred nor compassion.

Lucifer Morningstar.

The Ghost King stared at him.

"So you're the one."

Lucifer tilted his head.

"The one what?"

"The presence I felt."

"Oh."

Lucifer waved casually.

"That might have been me."

The Ghost King's eyes narrowed.

"You don't seem concerned that the Soul King is dead."

Lucifer shrugged.

"I didn't know him."

"And you don't care that I intend to destroy his world?"

"Not particularly."

The Ghost King stared at him in disbelief.

Lucifer continued.

"Though I would appreciate it if you didn't destroy everything before I've had a chance to fight you."

Silence.

Then the Ghost King laughed.

"You want to fight me?"

"Very much."

"You understand that I killed the Soul King?"

"I was watching."

"And you believe you can defeat me?"

Lucifer's smile widened.

"That remains to be seen."

The Ghost King examined him.

He could feel Lucifer's soul energy, but it did not explain the unease spreading through his instincts.

There was something else.

Something behind the man.

Something that had appeared for only an instant, yet had left the entire dimension trembling.

"What are you?" the Ghost King asked.

Lucifer summoned Chirin.

The weapon materialized in his hand.

His crimson eyes met the Ghost King's gaze.

"The Devil."

The Ghost King remained silent.

Then his expression darkened.

"Move aside."

Lucifer glanced toward the rift.

"Why?"

"I have a world to destroy."

"Do that afterward."

The Ghost King's soul energy erupted.

The dead planet beneath Lucifer began to crack.

"Do you think this is a game?"

Lucifer smiled.

"No."

His grip tightened around Chirin.

"I think it's a fight."

The Ghost King stared at him.

For centuries, he had fought to become strong enough to defeat his oldest friend.

He had finally achieved that dream.

Now, standing before him, was another being who looked upon his power without fear.

A being who did not pity him.

A being who did not condemn him.

A being who simply wanted to fight.

The Ghost King slowly raised his hand.

"If you stand in my way, I will kill you."

Lucifer's smile became almost delighted.

"Excellent."

The surrounding space trembled.

Two monsters stood facing each other.

One had lost the only person he had ever wanted to protect.

The other had finally found an opponent he wanted to challenge.

Neither intended to retreat.

Lucifer lowered Chirin into a ready position.

The Ghost King's darkness spread across the battlefield.

And somewhere between them, the fabric of reality began to crack.

The Soul King was gone.

The Ghost King had nothing left to lose.

And the Devil had finally found a reason to unleash his sins.

The next moment, both disappeared.

And the universe held its breath.
