Cassandra’s voice cut through the vacuum of space.

“Secure the base. I want prisoners recovered, records seized, and storage rings collected. Anything that moves and isn’t Vorn, put it down.”

Blade No. 10—Lex Beaumont—descended toward the breached asteroid surface, his Early Supreme Realm aura pressing down on the installation like the weight of a collapsing star. Blade No. 12 followed, his Late Origin Realm presence silent and absolute. The squad of Vorn elite warriors fanned out behind them.

The remaining Peak Spirit Soul defenders attempted to mount a defensive formation at the base’s inner corridors. Blade No. 12 walked through their formation like it wasn’t there. His hand cut through the lead defender’s barrier, and the man’s head left his shoulders before his brain registered the movement. The rest broke and ran. They didn’t get far.

Blade No. 10 swept the research wing. Laboratories filled with stolen technology, experimental formations, and shelves of questionable substances were documented and sealed. Containment pods holding prisoners—some alive, some long dead—were opened carefully. The living were stabilized. The dead were catalogued.

Storage rings were recovered by the dozens. Research records, communication logs, faction manifests—all seized. Every piece of intelligence that could be extracted from the installation was packed into Vorn security containers for analysis.

Kael’s unconscious body was placed in a medical pod. The pod’s systems activated immediately, monitoring his vital signs, regulating his body temperature, and maintaining a stable mana environment around his battered form. His breathing was shallow but steady. His heart rate was irregular but holding.

Cassandra refused to leave his side during the initial stabilization. She stood beside the pod as the Vorn physicians worked. When one physician suggested she rest, she looked at him with eyes that could have frozen a star.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

The journey back took a week. The Blood Resonance Compass had given a general location, not precise coordinates—a direction and an approximate distance, which had required extensive scanning and searching before the Vorn ships located the cloaked asteroid base. The return trip was faster.

They arrived at the Vorn Estate on World Thirteen. The planet’s heavy mana density washed over the fleet as it entered the atmosphere, the familiar pressure of the Vorn homeworld settling over everything like a warm, oppressive blanket.

Kael was taken directly to the clan’s physicians. The medical wing of the Vorn Estate was state-of-the-art—runic diagnostic arrays, alchemical treatment stations, and specialists in every discipline of healing. The clan’s best physicians examined him within hours of arrival.

Their findings were troubling.

Ordinary healing techniques couldn’t safely stabilize him. His Void Sovereign Physique kept regenerating damaged tissue automatically, but the simultaneous activity of two bloodlines—the Astraeon and the Asura—was causing dangerous fluctuations in his mana pathways, his soul structure, and his physical cellular integrity. His body seemed to be adapting to the fundamental changes.

The physicians attempted standard mana stabilization treatments. The first technique caused Kael’s Astraeon bloodline to flare defensively, his mana pathways constricting in response to the foreign energy. The second technique triggered the Asura bloodline, his body temperature spiking to dangerous levels. The third attempt was abandoned when both bloodlines reacted simultaneously, creating a feedback loop that nearly cracked the medical pod’s containment.

Kael was placed inside a specially constructed medical pod—one designed for high-risk patients with unstable cultivation. The pod regulated his mana flow, suppressed bloodline fluctuations, maintained his body temperature, and provided a controlled spiritual environment. The runic formations inscribed on the pod’s interior were Rank 7, the highest grade available outside of the Family Head’s personal vault.

Sophie and Cassandra decided to watch over him personally. Anyone could be manipulated, compromised by Ursula or her people or even any who wished Kael harm.

Cassandra visited him daily.

When one physician suggested that Kael’s condition was deteriorating—that the bloodline fluctuations were getting worse, that his soul had sustained damage that might not be reversible—Cassandra’s aura flared. The physician, an Early Origin Realm cultivator with decades of experience, found himself pressed against the wall by Mid Origin Realm gravity. His bones creaked. His breathing stopped.

“Find a way to stabilize him,” Cassandra said, her voice perfectly level. “Or I will find new physicians and head will be rolling the next day.”

The physician quickly found a way. The fluctuations were managed through a combination of alchemical suppressants and runic regulation. Kael’s condition stabilized.

Meanwhile, news spread through the Vorn family like wildfire.

Kael Vorn, the sixth son, was back. He had been involved in an incident with the House of Crimson. Details were scarce—Cassandra had sealed the reports.

The Family Head had just returned.

Vorn the Unyielding. The most powerful cultivator in the Vorn family’s history. He arrived at the estate without announcement, his presence felt before his form was seen. The gravitational pressure of his existence settled over the entire compound like the weight of a continent.

He ordered a complete report from Cassandra.

They met in the war chamber.

The Family Head sat on his obsidian throne. His appearance was deceptively ordinary—middle-aged, unremarkable features, dark hair streaked with grey. But his eyes were ancient. They had seen four centuries of war, politics, betrayal, and power. Nothing surprised or frightened him.

Until Cassandra finished her report.

“Captured by the House of Crimson,” Cassandra said, her voice steady. “Operating with the Shadow Vatican. A high demon and a member of the Devouring Spirit Clan were present. Isabella was compromised—her soul extracted. The base has been destroyed. Kael has been recovered. His condition is stable but critical.”

The Family Head was silent for a long moment. His ancient eyes studied Cassandra.

“The Devouring Spirit Clan,” he repeated, his voice low. “They are extinct. Erased five hundred years ago even before I was born.”

“Apparently not,” Cassandra said.

The Family Head’s aura shifted.

“They dare to attack the Vorns openly,” the Family Head said. His voice carried no anger.

“The Shadow Vatican has operated from the shadows for centuries. They’ve kidnapped, experimented, and infiltrated. But they’ve never directly assaulted a Vorn family member of main blood.” His eyes met Cassandra’s.

He rose from the throne.

“Prepare the family for war. Mobilize the Blades. Contact our allies. I want every piece of intelligence we have on the Shadow Vatican and the House of Crimson brought to this chamber within forty-eight hours.” He paused. “And what about Kael?”

“His condition is stable,” Cassandra repeated. “He should recover.”

He left the war chamber without another word.

Two weeks passed.

Inside the medical pod, suspended in regenerative fluid, Kael’s body healed. The bloodline fluctuations stabilized. His mana pathways repaired. His soul structure, damaged by weeks of torture and the strain of dual domains, slowly reknit itself. The Void Sovereign Physique worked tirelessly, regenerating tissue at five times the standard rate, the Asura bloodline’s enhanced regeneration synergizing with the Astraeon bloodline’s spiritual mending.

His fingers moved.

His silver eyes opened beneath the fluid.

Kael tore open the medical pod’s release seal.

The fluid drained and the glass panels separated. Kael stepped out, his bare feet hitting the cold stone floor. Water and regenerative fluid dripped from his body, pooling beneath him.

The physicians reacted immediately. Three of them rushed forward, their hands raised, their voices overlapping.

“You can’t be outside the pod! Your stabilization isn’t—”

“The Vorn bloodline fluctuations could return if you don’t—”

“At minimum, you need another week of—”

Kael ignored them. He stood straight, his body bare, his skin still glistening with fluid. His muscles were defined, his physique lean and hardened from months of combat and regeneration. The Void Sovereign Physique had refined his form during the recovery—the Asura bloodline adding density to his frame while the Astraeon bloodline sharpened his features.

One of the female physicians—a young woman specializing in spiritual healing—rushed forward with a robe, her face flushed crimson as she averted her eyes from his body. She draped the clothing over his shoulders, her hands trembling slightly as they brushed his skin.

Kael looked at her. A smirk curled his lips.

“Thank you,” he said, his voice rough from weeks of silence.

The physician’s blush deepened to the point where her ears turned red. She stammered something unintelligible and retreated behind her colleagues.

Kael tied the robe and observed his surroundings. He extended his soul sense sweeping through the facility, confirming what he already suspected.

He was home.

He turned to the physicians, who were still protesting his departure.

“I’m leaving. Don’t follow me.”

He walked out of the medical wing, past the guards who stiffened at his approach.
