The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign
Chapter 331: The Prince of Shadows (1)
Meanwhile, at the Vorn Estate, Sebastian sat in his quarters, his face pale, his hands trembling against the communication rune on his wrist. Static answered him—FZZZ, FZZZ—the encrypted channel to the Clown returning nothing but dead air. The Clown was already far from the House of Crimson base.
Sebastian’s mind raced. Cassandra had convened the council. The Blood Resonance Compass had been activated. He didn’t know these details—not exactly—but the corrupted servant he had planted in the estate’s servant corps had reported Cassandra’s aura exploding through the estate, the elders being summoned, and something ancient being retrieved from the clan’s deepest vault.
If Cassandra was looking for Kael, she would find him. And if she found Kael, she would find the House of Crimson. And if she found the House of Crimson, she would find Isabella—soulless, mind-controlled, a weapon turned against her own family. And from Isabella, the trail led directly to Sebastian.
His hands shook harder. He wondered if he had been compromised. If he was already discovered, Cassandra would have come for him already. She wouldn’t wait. She wouldn’t play games. That wasn’t her style. She would walk into his room, Break him, and extract information while he bled.
He knew Cassandra. He knew what she did to traitors.
He considered fleeing the Vorn Estate entirely. Packing his things, boarding a ship, disappearing into the outer rim. But where would he go? The Vorn family’s reach spanned worlds. Without the House of Crimson’s protection, he was a rat in open territory.
He tried the communication rune again—FZZZ. Nothing.
"Fucking clown," Sebastian muttered, his voice cracking. "Pick up. Pick up, you painted bastard."
Meanwhile,
Kael’s consciousness—detached from his dead body—was pulled into a vivid, immersive memory sequence. He didn’t know he was in a memory. To him, it felt like living another life.
He awakened as Damian Astraeon—not as a child this time, but as a young man in his thirties, standing on a balcony overlooking a vast, crystalline city. The architecture was breathtaking—towers of white stone and dark crystal rising from a foundation of pure mana, their surfaces catching light in ways that defied physics. Gardens hung from every level, cascading waterfalls of liquid mana feeding into rivers that wound through the city streets.
This was not Damian’s kingdom. This was the new kingdom of his uncle—Malachar Astraeon, the man who had orchestrated the coup that killed Damian’s parents. The usurper sat on a throne that should have belonged to Damian’s father.
Behind Damian stood his very first general—Kaelthas. A tall, gaunt man with hollow cheeks and eyes that burned with quiet, eternal loyalty. His soul was woven with threads of shadow, visible to those who could perceive such things, a mark of his unique cultivation path. Kaelthas had once been imprisoned in a soul-suppression dungeon by a rival kingdom, left to rot in darkness for decades. His soul had been slowly devoured by the dungeon’s formation. Damian had found him, freed him, and used his primordial darkness to mend what remained of Kaelthas’s shattered soul. Ever since, the soul weaver swore to follow Damian to the death.
Damian walked away from the kingdom. He wasn’t foolish enough to think he could kill his uncle now. Malachar’s power had grown enormously since the coup. Even his guards would be enough to kill Damian with a single attack. So he went for easier targets. He built his army, one ally at a time, one war at a time.
Years passed.
Damian, now thirty-five, ventured into the Berserker Reach—the White Tiger Clan’s territory. A rogue White Tiger sub-clan had been corrupted by demonic energy, their bloodline twisted, their minds consumed by rage. They had become mindless berserkers, attacking everything in their path. The White Tiger Clan’s main family had disowned them, refusing to deal with the problem.
Damian found their chieftain—a massive beast-kin standing four meters tall, his body covered in matted white fur streaked with black veins of corruption. His eyes were red, driven mad by the demonic energy coursing through his blood.
They fought for a full day.
The chieftain’s raw physical power was staggering. Each swing of his claws shattered the landscape—CRASH, BOOM—trees flattened, boulders split, the earth itself torn apart. Damian met him with primordial darkness, his shadows eating the corrupted energy with every contact. But the chieftain’s regeneration was fueled by the demonic energy itself, creating a cycle of destruction and renewal that pushed Damian to his limits.
Damian didn’t kill the chieftain. Instead, on the final exchange, he plunged his hands into the beast’s chest—SQUISH—and used his darkness to consume the demonic corruption from the beast’s bloodline. The process was agonizing for both of them. The corruption fought back, lashing at Damian’s soul, trying to corrupt him in turn. But his primordial darkness was older than demonic energy, and it swallowed the corruption whole.
The chieftain—Rengar Whitefang—collapsed, his white fur cleared of black veins, his eyes returning to their natural gold. He wept. He remembered everything he had done while corrupted. He begged for death.
Damian refused. "Live," he said. "And fight for me."
Rengar pledged his sub-clan’s service to Damian. He became the Beast General of the Astraeon army, who later commanded twelve thousand beast-kin warriors of different beast races that Damian would recruit over the following decades.
Damian recruited Thane Ironheart, a dwarf clansman enslaved by a coalition of minor kingdoms. Thane was a body cultivator and the greatest living forger of dark-aspected weapons. His hands were scarred from centuries of work, his beard braided with runic iron. He had been forced to forge weapons for his captors for two hundred years.
Damian freed him by annihilating the slave empire in a single night. His darkness consumed an entire city, swallowing every structure, every guard, every chain. He left nothing but shadows where a civilization had stood. The screams echoed for hours before the silence came.
Thane knelt before Damian, his scarred hands trembling. "Name what you need," the dwarf said. "And it is yours."
Thane forged Damian’s signature weapons and armor, including the original Shadow Slayer blades—twin blades of Blood-Iron Alloy, bonded to Damian’s soul, designed to devour the blood and mana of whatever they cut. The design was so perfect, so fundamental, that it would later be replicated by the System for Kael—HUMMM—the same blades Kael had wielded without knowing their true origin.
Thane became the Forgemaster General.
Damian, now fifty, continued his systematic genocide of the Infernal Demons after twenty years of his former campaign against their race. The war lasted five years. Kael witnessed massive battles—Damian leading armies of darkness against hordes of fiery demons. The sky itself burned during these engagements—FWOOOM—the combined demonic energy of millions of Infernal Demons turning the atmosphere into a furnace.
The fight was cataclysmic. The Flame Demon Emperor wielded primordial fire—the same type of energy as the Demonic Asura Lotus Flame but far more potent. A being of pure, condensed fire law, radiating heat that melted continents. When Damian met it with primordial darkness, the collision created zones of annihilation where neither fire nor darkness existed—just pure void. SILENCE. Pockets of absolute nothing, where reality itself had been consumed by the conflicting primordial forces.
Seraphine Vale fought alongside Damian. Her one emerald and one gold eye blazed as she manipulated Time and Flame laws simultaneously—HUMMM—slowing the Flame Demon Emperor’s movements while amplifying Damian’s attacks. Her temporal manipulation created openings that Damian exploited with devastating darkness techniques, his shadows piercing through the slowed flames like spears.
The Flame Demon Emperor fell. His body dissolved into scattered fire law that dissipated into the void.
The Infernal Demons were completely wiped out, their bloodline erased from existence. Damian’s Slaughter Intent deepened even further, forged through more years of relentless killing. Kael watched Damian fight the Infernal Demon King—a colossal, ten-meter demon of pure fire—and defeat him by consuming his flames with primordial darkness. The King’s death knell was a whisper—the sound of fire being swallowed by an endless, cold dark.
After the Infernal Demons fell, Damian turned to the Asura Demons. The more powerful, more dangerous race. Another race that had allied with Malachar to destroy Damian’s family.
This war lasted fifteen years and was far more brutal.
