The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign
Chapter 288: Aura
Kael took the first step.
WHUUUM!
A crushing pressure slammed down onto his shoulders. His Void Body Refinement Tier 4 Peak absorbed the impact, but he felt the difference immediately. This wasn’t like the sixth floor. The pressure here was absolute—designed to break anything below Late Tier 4.
He took the second step. The pressure doubled. His muscles tightened—creak—his bones resisting the gravitational force pressing against every cell.
He stopped as he turned and extended his hand to Rue.
"You’ll need my help for this one, love."
Rue swallowed as she took his hand. Her fingers trembled slightly as she stepped onto the first stair.
WHUUUM!
Her knees buckled immediately. Her fox-kin physiology was strong, but it was only comparable to an early Tier 4. The pressure forced her downward—her tails flaring instinctively for balance.
Unlike humans, beasts naturally have strong bodies. And as they grow, their body strength increases on its own without too much pressure.
Kael’s grip tightened. He held her upright with his body serving as an anchor against the crushing force.
Rue looked up at him, her green eyes strained. "This one is quite heavy." She managed a weak smile. "Hope there’s some good treasure on the seventh floor."
"Let’s keep moving," Kael said.
They climbed. Each step intensified the pressure. By the fifth step, Rue’s breathing was ragged. By the eighth, her tails had gone limp—dragging behind her. Kael pulled her upward—arm straining slightly—not from his own weight, but from supporting hers against the pressure.
Ten steps.
They reached the seventh floor.
Rue collapsed immediately. Thud.
Her chest heaved as her body sprawled across the stone floor.
"Hhhh... hhhh..."
While she recovered, Kael stood and examined the seventh floor.
It was small unlike the expansive lower floors—training grounds, libraries, gardens—this space was barely twenty meters across.
And there was nobody here. Very few cultivators in the Void Realm possessed a Late Tier 4 body cultivation.
At the center of the room sat a pool.
It was a 5 meter circular pool carved directly into the stone floor. The water inside was vibrate with a green glow.
Kael knelt beside the pool. He dipped his finger into the green water.
His Spirit Eyes activated—flicker—analyzing the liquid.
His eyes widened.
The pool wasn’t water. It was liquefied body essence—a concentration of minerals, ancient herbs, and primordial energy that had been steeping for five thousand years. The green liquid carried restorative, strengthening, and reconstructive properties. It could repair micro-fractures in bone, reinforce organ tissue, purify the bloodstream, and most importantly—temper the body at the cellular level.
Body cultivation was the art of forcing the physical vessel beyond mortal limits. It was about tempering the body with different resources—mana, energy, elements. Kael used Void energy and mana alongside rare resources to temper his. Others used fire, gravity, lightning, or beast blood. The method varied, but the principle remained the same: break the body down and rebuild it stronger.
The effects were cumulative. Stronger muscles, denser bones, faster regeneration and extended lifespan. At higher tiers, the body became a weapon in itself—capable of withstanding attacks that would kill ordinary cultivators.
Rue sat up, her breathing steadier. "What is it?" she asked, staring at the green pool.
"This pool carries a great deal of body-tempering properties," Kael said. "Minerals, primordial essence, medicinal extracts—all concentrated and preserved for five thousand years. Soaking in it will temper the muscles, bones, and organs simultaneously."
He stood and walked to the entrance of the seventh floor. From his system storage, he pulled out his runic carving tools. The needle moved rapidly—scratch-scratch-scratch—inscribing formations into the stone floor. Layer upon layer, building a defensive matrix that would stop anyone from entering.
Vvvvm. Vvvvm. Vvvvm.
Multiple barriers materialized, overlapping. Even a Rank 6 Runemaster would struggle a little to crack this formation quickly.
Kael returned to the pool. He pulled his shirt over his head as he undressed. He stepped into the pool.
The green liquid closed around his legs. He sank to his waist—and his body began absorbing the energy immediately.
His muscles tingled. The primordial essence seeped through his skin—repairing, reinforcing, reconstructing.
He looked at Rue. "Come on, jump in. The pool can temper your body too."
Rue’s face turned crimson.
"Turn around," she said.
Kael smirked but obliged seeing she was shy. He heard fabric rustling and then a splash.
Rue entered the pool. Her body absorbed the energy—her eyes widening as the primordial essence seeped into her muscles.
"It’s warm and the energy is so concentrated," she murmured.
Kael closed his eyes. He began circulating the Void Body Refinement technique—drawing the pool’s energy into his circulation, merging it with his Void energy and mana.
The most important elements of body cultivation were the heart and the lungs. The heart pumped blood into the working muscles—delivering oxygen, nutrients, and cultivation energy. The lungs processed air intake—filtering ambient energy and supplying the body with the fuel needed for sustained exertion.
At Tier 5, body cultivation moved from external reinforcement into internal transformation. The focus shifted to the bone marrow—the source of blood production and life essence.
Every blood cell became a carrier of physical power. The cultivator’s blood gained regenerative properties—wounds that took minutes to heal now closed in seconds.
The organs underwent secondary reinforcement. Heart, lungs, liver, kidneys—all rebuilt at the cellular level to handle the increased demands of marrow-reborn blood.
To break through to Early Tier 5, the bone marrow had to be purified and reconstructed. Old marrow expelled. New marrow formed—denser, richer, producing blood infused with body cultivation energy.
This body cultivation energy was known as AURA.
A Tier 5 body cultivator—or a powerful beast with a strong body—gained access to this energy. Aura was the radiating projection of a body cultivator’s internal energy and life force, manifested outwardly as a visible or tangible pressure. It was pressurized energy pushed out through the pores of the skin—forming an invisible, skin-tight shield that deflected blades, magic, and blunt force.
A Tier 5 body cultivator could manipulate this aura—shaping it, projecting it, weaponizing it. This made them extraordinarily dangerous. A Tier 5 body cultivator could crush opponents without throwing a single punch—simply by projecting their aura outward.
Days passed. Then a week.
Kael and Rue remained in the pool—circulating, absorbing, tempering. The green liquid slowly lost its vibrancy as their bodies drank the primordial essence dry.
Rue had fallen asleep against the pool’s edge—her body still absorbing passively.
Kael sat motionless at the center of the pool. His circulation had reached a critical point. His bone marrow was changing—crack—the old, impure marrow dissolving and being expelled through his pores as a dark, oily substance that dissolved in the green water.
New marrow formed pulsing with energy.
His heart accelerated, pumping newly forged blood through his body. His lungs expanded—hooo—processing air with newfound efficiency. His organs tightened, reinforced and rebuilt.
And then—
WHUUUUM!
A strong physical aura exploded from Kael’s body. The green water in the pool erupted outward—splash—wave after wave slamming against the stone walls. The barriers at the entrance trembled—crackle—but held. Rue woke with a start—ah!—her tails flaring.
Kael opened his eyes.
[Body Cultivation Breakthrough: Early Tier 5.]
[Aura Unlocked.]
[Physical attributes significantly enhanced. Regeneration speed increased by 300%. Skin-tight Aura shield passive.]
Kael looked at his hands. The aura shimmered responding to his thoughts. He pressed his palm against the pool’s stone edge. The stone cracked under his touch—crack—without him applying any force.
So this is Tier 5.
