The Cultivation Food Stall: Sold Out Every Night
Chapter 135: Uncle Xia’s Invitation
Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Uncle Xia’s Invitation
[Task Progress: 2000/2000]
[Congratulations, Host. Task complete. Your cultivation has advanced to Mid-stage Foundation Establishment. You have been awarded one lottery draw.]
On the fifth day Lu Wu was running her stall, the current task was finally complete.
Cause for celebration!
Freed from the task’s requirements, Lu Wu felt completely at ease. She let herself go, even adding all sorts of wild new flavors of jianbing to her menu.
The price for "The Works" eventually rose to one hundred Spirit Stones per jianbing.
Even so, the customers still came in an endless stream.
"It’s too cheap,"
Mumu commented, and Tian Tian readily agreed.
Both of them were incredibly wealthy and didn’t care about such a small sum. In fact, they wished Lu Wu would sell her jianbing for a higher price so fewer people would be scrambling to buy them.
Once they realized Lu Wu would be closing her stall soon, many customers refused to leave even after buying their jianbing.
This time, they didn’t resort to sweet talk or honey traps to beg Boss Lu to sell for a few more days. They knew Boss Lu was "iron-hearted," so they changed their strategy.
They didn’t say a word, simply standing to the side eating their jianbing while silently attacking her with their eyes.
Everything was left unsaid.
’But if you don’t say anything, that must mean you don’t have any requests.’
And so, Lu Wu ignored them once more.
Cang He Guang, who had official business to attend to and thus an excuse to be in Yuanhai City, showed up again.
Even as the Lord City Lord, his influence was only enough to buy five jianbing.
Fortunately, Lu Wu had already prepared the offering for the Evil Dragon yesterday and given it to him.
And as for lining his own pockets, he had indeed done just that.
Looking at the jianbing in his Storage Space, Cang He Guang still wasn’t satisfied. Ever since meeting Boss Lu, he had developed a hoarding habit.
And he wasn’t the only one.
Some customers, after buying their share, would go right back to the end of the line and queue up again, trying for a second round.
But they all ended up disappointed.
The customers’ wait was agonizing, but their meal was blissful, and Lu Wu’s jianbing business was booming.
Before anyone knew it, the seventh day had arrived.
That day, as soon as Lu Wu arrived at her spot, she saw the blind old man waiting for her.
’Speaking of Uncle Xia, he represents my greatest failure since I started this stall.’
’To think someone could actually refuse my cooking!’
Just as Lu Wu was debating whether to try and win him over again, Uncle Xia spoke up.
"I’m here to buy a jianbing."
Spirit Stones clinked onto the stall counter. Dahuang wagged its tail, while Huohuo shot a confused glance.
The two little companions couldn’t understand why this grumpy old man had such a sudden change of heart.
In truth, Cheng Yang had simply given up.
Ever since the day he’d brought a jianbing back for Uncle Xia, the old man would show up in front of Cheng Yang every single day during Lu Wu’s business hours.
His intention was obvious.
Cheng Yang had no choice but to share his portion of jianbing with Uncle Xia.
Today was the last day the stall would be open, and it was also the last day on this earth for the residents of Little Sea Village. Cheng Yang decided he’d had enough and put his foot down.
Having been refused by his junior, and thinking about that delicious jianbing, Uncle Xia ultimately had to swallow his pride and come buy one himself.
This meant victory belonged to Lu Wu.
But after Lu Wu handed the jianbing to Uncle Xia, she noticed he didn’t leave.
"Boss Lu, after you’ve sold all your jianbing, could you pay a visit to our village?"
There was a complexity in Uncle Xia’s words that Lu Wu couldn’t quite decipher.
By now, everyone in the village knew their own situation.
Their time as ghosts was running out.
But they had no regrets.
After several days of eating the jianbing, they could now speak calmly about the moments of their deaths.
As their benefactor, they hoped Lu Wu could be there to see them off.
"...Alright."
Lu Wu glanced at the villagers scattered throughout the crowd and nodded.
She had heard some rumors about it.
Combined with a few hints from Zhang Yue, Lu Wu felt a great deal of sympathy for the villagers of Little Sea Village.
If she could offer some small measure of help, she was willing to do so.
"Boss Lu, will I still be able to see you tomorrow?"
"Boss Lu, I’ll miss you so much! Can you stay here for me?"
"Boss Lu..."
’Alright, here we go again. The grand finale of the last day at the stall.’
Listening to their earnest cries, Lu Wu felt like her ears were about to fall off.
The worst part was that some of them were just joining in on the fun, purely to cause trouble for her.
With only enough batter left for a dozen more jianbing, the remaining customers once again witnessed Lu Wu’s "heartlessness."
"Not a chance! Absolutely not!"
After her flat refusal, Lu Wu went back to making jianbing.
The golden-brown jianbing had become the latest trend in Yuanhai City.
Some locals were still unaware of Lu Wu’s existence, as the Prodigy Tournament was stealing the spotlight.
But who could have guessed that the most outstanding prodigies in the tournament were all customers of Boss Lu?
This caused Lu Wu’s popularity to skyrocket.
People who heard of her fame came to see for themselves, their journey taking them from doubt to acceptance to loyal devotion, causing the number of customers to surge.
Eventually, the first thing spectators at the Prodigy Tournament would ask each other was, "Did you get one of Boss Lu’s jianbing today?"
Riding on the coattails of the Prodigy Tournament, Lu Wu became famous throughout the entire Southern State.
"Wu Yan, what are you doing here?"
There were only a few customers left at the jianbing stall, so they naturally became the center of attention.
One of them, a Female Cultivator, was stating her order. Just as Lu Wu noted it down and started cooking, she heard someone ask the question.
’Wu Yan?’
Lu Wu dredged up her memories and recalled who she was.
Jiang Yunhe had mentioned her. She was a disciple of the Beast Taming Sect who had once asked Jiang Yunhe for help treating Sun Ke, the guy Huohuo had burned to a crisp.
The treatment hadn’t been successful; in fact, his condition had worsened.
Sun Ke, now partially paralyzed, had been given up on by the Beast Taming Sect. Although he officially remained a disciple, it was highly unlikely he would receive any more resources from them.
Combined with the Beast Taming Sect’s repeated failures in the Prodigy Tournament, many of its disciples had started to keep a low profile.
Coming in last once could be written off as bad luck, but coming in last every single time just proved they were weak.
The disciples of the Beast Taming Sect, having firmly secured their position as the last-place major sect, were too ashamed to show their faces in public. Yet, here was Wu Yan.
"What, I can’t be here to buy a jianbing?"
Wu Yan shot the person a fierce glare.
In truth, she didn’t even remember who the person was. The Beast Taming Sect disciples had a habit of offending so many people that their enemies were innumerable.
"Of course you can."
The customer didn’t get angry. He hadn’t even finished his jianbing; why would he waste time and energy arguing with someone else?
Seeing that the person didn’t press the issue, Wu Yan didn’t relax. Instead, she glanced nervously at Lu Wu.
She was afraid Lu Wu would recognize her and refuse to sell her a jianbing.
Life had been difficult for her recently.
It was incredibly difficult to curry favor with her senior sisters. If she wanted them to look upon her favorably, she’d have to redouble her efforts.
She just so happened to hear that her senior sisters loved the jianbing from this stall, so she had come.
’Compared to my future prospects, what’s a little loss of face?’
Fortunately, Lu Wu didn’t chase her away. The moment the jianbing was in her hands, Wu Yan’s mouth began to water uncontrollably.
’Four for my senior sisters, and one for me.’
That was Wu Yan’s initial plan.
But the moment she took her first bite, tears streamed down her face.
’What kind of divinely inspired jianbing is this? It’s way too good!’
’Alright, I’ll leave three for my senior sisters, then.’
Three would be enough to win their hearts. Wu Yan continued to frantically devour the jianbing.
But as she kept eating, she looked down to find only one last jianbing remaining, and an awkward feeling washed over her.
’It would be hard for two senior sisters to split one jianbing... so maybe it’s better if... they don’t have to split it at all.’
Having successfully convinced herself, Wu Yan ended up eating all the jianbing.
