Chapter 929: 929 - The Immortal Celestial Capital (02)
Qingyi strolled into Tianjin’s office, his gaze landing on the man behind the large desk.
Settled into a comfortable armchair, Tianjin was working through routine administrative matters, reviewing documents and signing them one after another.
Normally, the guards stationed outside would have stopped anyone who tried to walk in like that. The only exception was someone with truly urgent business.
Not even the Celestial Emperors of the Alliance were exempt from that rule.
Of course, Qingyi was Tianjin’s son-in-law, and within the Alliance he received the same treatment as Qianyao.
He didn’t need scheduled meetings. The guards simply bowed their heads as he passed.
The moment he stepped through the door, Tianjin lifted his eyes from his papers.
"Greetings, Father-in-law." Qingyi smiled, cupping his fists in front of his chest and bowing in a formal salute.
Tianjin set his pen down and rose from his chair, striding around the desk.
"No need to be so formal, Qingyi." He let out a booming laugh, pulling his son-in-law into a firm bear hug and giving him two hearty slaps on the back. "So, what can I do for you?" he asked as he let go.
Even then, his large hands stayed on Qingyi’s shoulders, squeezing them firmly, the broad smile never leaving his face for even a second.
"I plan to head to the Celestial Immortal Capital, so I’d like a guard to accompany me," Qingyi replied calmly.
"Ah... of course." Tianjin’s smile dimmed a little, and he nodded slowly. "The Heavenly Demon must be plotting something terrible. You shouldn’t leave the Alliance without an escort of at least a few Celestial Emperors."
He gave a short wave of his hand.
In the next instant, the shadows in the corners of the office flickered.
Four figures emerged from them without the slightest sound, taking their places behind Qingyi as if they had been standing there all along.
Each of them was a formidable Celestial Emperor, personally trained by Tianjin. Together, they could stand against even one of the leaders of the Nine Great Sects.
Qingyi glanced over his shoulder, casually taking in the four.
Their attire was nothing like that of ordinary Celestial Emperors.
They wore what was clearly high-tech armor—powerful and refined—its polished plates catching the light of the office.
Long white capes hung from their shoulders, cascading down their backs until they nearly brushed the floor.
"I’ll have a ship prepared shortly. How many days from now do you plan to leave?" Tianjin asked, crossing his arms.
Honestly, the ideal scenario was for Qingyi to never set foot outside the territory of the Celestial Orthodox Martial Alliance.
That would prevent all sorts of terrible accidents and, all things considered, would simply be for the best for Qingyi’s safety.
Fortunately, the Immortal Celestial Capital boasted security measures on par with the Alliance’s own.
On top of that, Tianjin possessed artifacts that let him not only sense the situation in the city, but also teleport there in an instant whenever he wished.
"Thank you, Father-in-law." Qingyi bowed his head slightly in gratitude. "I’d like to leave today. I have some important matters to settle with the Zhang Family."
Tianjin’s eyebrows shot up the moment he heard that, a puzzled look crossing his face.
What could his son-in-law possibly have to settle with the Zhang Family?
Before he could ask, however, a voice transmission from one of his most senior guards reached his ears.
When Qingyi had first arrived at the Alliance, an old man named Ma Zhenwu had come along with him.
The old man was merely a Celestial Emperor, and his talent, by the Alliance’s standards, was mediocre at best. For that reason, Tianjin had never paid him much attention.
All he knew was that Ma Zhenwu was the grandfather of the current Divine Maiden of the Divine Maiden Sect.
The girl had shown real talent, along with the potential to become, perhaps, the first Celestial Empress of that famous and respected—though weak—sect.
Unfortunately, she had ended up catching the eye of Zhang Fei, a young prodigy infamous for ruining beauties.
Putting the girl’s background together with what the guard had just told him, Tianjin needed less than a second to understand what was going on.
He could only sigh, rubbing his forehead with his fingertips.
"I’ll send someone to ease the pressure the Divine Maiden Sect is under," he finally said. "As for Zhang Fei... you can handle him however you see fit."
In any case, those four were more than capable of resolving this problem.
And if things escalated beyond control, he would settle the matter personally with Patriarch Zhang.
Tianjin knew his son-in-law’s temperament well. Trying to stop him would be a waste of breath, so he didn’t even bother.
Instead, he simply handed over a few life-saving artifacts, placing them one by one into Qingyi’s palm. The young man accepted them without protest, tucking them away with a faint smile.
After that, Tianjin spent some time chatting with his daughter, Qianyao. By the time the two of them were done, the ship that would carry Qingyi to the Celestial Immortal Capital was already waiting.
The four Celestial Emperors assigned to accompany him melted back into the shadows as Qingyi walked through the palace corridors with Qianyao at his side.
The handsome young man couldn’t help but smile gently when Ruxue’s voice rang in his mind.
[Lingxi is ready and throwing a tantrum, calling for you...]
He paused for a moment in the middle of the corridor. In the next instant, a tiny, adorable figure in a pretty little white dress materialized straight out of the world within his mind.
The little girl appeared right behind him, plopping down onto his shoulders with her short legs dangling on either side of her father’s neck.
Qingyi instinctively raised his hands to hold her by the calves, while her chubby little hands shot toward his black horns without hesitation, grabbing them like a pair of handles.
The frown on her little face vanished in a heartbeat, and a high-pitched giggle bubbled from her lips as her feet kicked happily against his chest.
"DADDA!" she shouted adorably, letting go of the horns and flinging her small body forward to hug Qingyi’s face from behind, her soft cheeks squishing against the top of his head.
