Book 3: Chapter 313: The Three Methods of Silver Radiance

  • Next Chapter

Silver lamp illuminating the Law-Purifying Moon Cleansing Solution, Silver Wax Clarity Method... Sylutia looked at the several secret arts written down in her notes and fell into thought.

These were all secret techniques developed by the Silver Radiance Church in the past, used to analyze pathogens and plagues, to understand their characteristics and essence. Unfortunately, these methods were lost with the destruction of the Silver Radiance Church, and now no one in the mortal world has learned or mastered them.

In recent times, as she studied plagues and medical pathology, Sylutia increasingly felt the importance of these secret arts. With their assistance, physicians could more clearly and conveniently analyze and then grasp the principles of plagues.

However, how could these things be passed on? Furthermore, these secret arts bore the deep imprint of the Silver Radiance Church. Would spreading them draw certain hidden enemies? After all, even the historical records of the Silver Radiance Church had been erased back then. Even with all the archaeologists of the Mage Alliance, they only knew a rough name nowadays.

Unable to make up her mind, Sylutia decided to go ask the several Hours. It happened that she had returned this time, and it seemed somewhat impolite not to visit the three elders after such a long time.

After preparing herself, Sylutia requested a day off from the team leader, Grandmaster Zelalin, then took out the Key of the Moon and teleported to the floating island in the sky atop the high tower.

Soon after pushing open the dust-sealed hall doors, she saw a stone throne slowly emerge, and then Abellid gradually revealed his form. He was propping his head up with one hand, seemingly lost in thought, his brow slightly furrowed.

This was the first time Sylutia had seen such an expression and scene. In the past, this Honored One had always carried an air of pride and composure.

"Your Grace Abellid..." Sylutia called out softly.

"Hm." He raised his head, his gaze shifting to Sylutia.

After examining her appearance for a long while, this Named One curled the corners of his mouth slightly.

"With this appearance of yours, you do look much better. I always thought it was strange for the 'Daughter of the Luminous Moon' to have black hair."

"Go on, what brings you here today?"

Sylutia suppressed the urge to talk back and quip at this Named One instructor of hers, then explained.

"It's like this..."

"Before my advancement, I went to the Land of the Moon and obtained some circulated scriptures and secret arts. After I deciphered them later, I discovered they were from the Silver Radiance Church." Sylutia explained the origin of the secret arts.

"Oh, the Silver Radiance Church..." He nodded slightly, then immediately understood the concern troubling Sylutia.

"Although the great war of the Eighth Epoch was brutal, all of that is in the past. The inheritance of the Golden Honey Dynasty on the Fifth Continent has long since been severed." Abellid shook his head slightly, telling Sylutia not to worry.

"In fact, the secret arts of the Golden Honey Dynasty on the Fifth Continent were actually re-transmitted from the Fourth Continent. After all, among those who campaigned back then were quite a few high-ranking members of the Golden Honey Dynasty, and even several members of the royal family."

"If you're worried about drawing hostility and targeting, I have a solution. Instead of appearing directly, you could teach a few members of the Origin Hourglass, and then they could spread these secret arts outward."

"The Origin Hourglass school specializes in archaeology and has reproduced quite a few secret arts from ancient times. To them, this isn't anything unusual. Moreover, with the disaster at hand, even if other factions learned of it, they wouldn't have much to object to."

After hearing this, Sylutia nodded slightly, then asked curiously.

"Does the Golden Honey Dynasty still have residual forces?"

"Not much on the Seventh Continent, but anything that posed a threat was long ago suppressed by the later moth dynasty, lingering at the fringes. They probably don't even have a single Eighth Tier master-level figure."

"However, within the Harp Flower Union, there are indeed surviving families of the Golden Honey Dynasty's inheritance. Back then, when the Golden Honey Dynasty's army crossed the cloudsea on their expedition, the port where they landed was scattered along the eastern side of the Fifth Continent. Later, when the Golden Honey Dynasty was destroyed on the Fifth Continent, these people went into hiding on the spot. When the Fourth Epoch began and the Hours no longer lightly interfered in the mortal world, they re-emerged."

"I remember you once purchased low-tier honey from the Harp Flower Union. Those came from their families."

"Ah, that..." Sylutia opened her mouth in surprise. She hadn't expected that the Golden Honey Dynasty truly still had direct descendants surviving, not completely wiped out.

"As for the 'Moon Parliament' you're also worried about, although they later split apart, many of their organizations still exist within the Hidden Grove Alliance today. If you carefully investigate and research, you could find some traces. It's just that due to the long passage of time and the lack of relevance to current affairs, no one probably brings it up on a daily basis." Abellid explained.

"I can't say there's no risk, but I think the problem isn't major." At this point, he suddenly stopped.

"No, wait. There are still some problems." Abellid frowned once more.

"Never mind. Since you've learned these secret arts, just use them yourself alone. Don't tell anyone else, and don't spread them casually either."

"I won't explain the reason for now. You'll gradually understand in the future." He offered no further explanation, but simply waved his hand, and vanished along with the stone throne.

Seeing this Honored One suddenly change his mind, doubt rose in Sylutia's heart, and she carefully pondered over it.

She had never seen Abellid in such a state before. As a Named One, the behind-the-scenes controller of the Mage Alliance, and the candidate closest to the seat of the 'Gold Steam' Hour, it was hard to imagine what could trouble him. And he was unwilling to explain too much, as if he were avoiding something.

Avoiding something...

What could make even an existence like a 'Named One' avoid it? That should be...

As Sylutia thought this far, she suddenly gained some insight and guessed what Abellid was worried about.

It seemed she truly needed to be cautious. Even if the possibility was very small, it was best not to touch upon it.

Having sorted this out, Sylutia bowed toward the empty hall, then took her leave and departed, returning to the surface.

After she left, three figures once again emerged within the previously empty hall. They were all shrouded inside their stone thrones, separated by hazy, fog-like barriers.

"This child is smarter than we imagined. Even though Abellid said nothing, she already understood in her heart." A message came from the stone throne bearing the 'Moon' emblem.

"Heh heh, after all, she's the successor we've set our sights on. How could she not be clever?" A message came from the stone throne bearing the 'Sun' emblem.

"Alright, I'm the one who let it slip. But the situation is indeed unusual this time." A somewhat irritated voice came from the stone throne bearing the 'Star' emblem.

"The 'Aberrant Mother Nest's erosion of the mortal world is becoming severe. Other continents all have Hours protecting them, so the impact there will be much smaller. Our continent is probably only slightly better off than the Seventh Continent."

"Previously, we requested the 'Lady of Winter' to ask that rabbit, but there's still no response."

"Isn't this something you anticipated long ago, Abellid?"

"The other party won't respond to you. In their eyes, nothing is more important than digesting the seat of an Hour."

"After all, they seized the Hour's seat through a shortcut. They never experienced praiseworthy trials, nor do they have sufficient foundation. The Hour's seat they occupy is unstable, so naturally they don't dare to casually mobilize power."

"Being unknown is the best protective coloring. Once they make a move, others will see through their depth and true state, inviting covetous eyes."

"Can we only keep on like this forever? No, there's still us. Perhaps precisely because of the other party's shrinking and concealment, our Mage Alliance was able to develop."

"In a sense, we should thank the other party for their dereliction of duty..."

"However, this cannot last forever. Even if we get through this Sinking Fog season, decades later, there will be another, and another after that. Eventually, one day... either we succeed, or the entire continent is buried with us."

"The plague must be solved, but ultimately, the plague will never be solved..."

"Have you both made up your minds..."

"Heh heh, is there any other choice?"

"For us, this is the only meaning of living on."

"In that case, let's begin preparations. It seems we can no longer afford to wait."

"Sylutia, Amelie... They will carry on the path in our stead."
