Chapter 731: Chapter 731: A Debt of Love (Part 1)

Vera Xavier offered a small smile. Sheldon Caldwell then turned to Nathaniel Nathan and said, "Hey, brother-in-law, how about you call me ’big bro’ just once so I can hear it?"

Nathaniel Nathan’s eyebrow arched. He knew Sheldon Caldwell was just trying to get one over on him. Instead of speaking, he simply flashed his fist.

Sheldon Caldwell immediately backed down. He rubbed the back of his head and said, "You know what, I’ve decided it’s enough if you just acknowledge me as your big brother in your heart. Anyway, it’s a lovely night. You two enjoy yourselves. I just remembered I have something to do, so I’ll be going now!"

He hadn’t taken three steps before turning back to Nathaniel Nathan. "I don’t really have a problem with you wanting to kiss my sis," he said, "but we’re on campus, so you’d better take it easy. Otherwise, one wrong move and we could have a repeat of what happened tonight. That would be terrible for my sis’s reputation!"

He winked at Vera Xavier after saying this, then strode away.

Vera Xavier looked utterly exasperated by his antics.

Nathaniel Nathan stared unhappily in the direction Sheldon Caldwell had gone. Vera sighed and said, "If you hadn’t been here tonight, I really don’t know what I would have done. Nathaniel, I’m finding that I need you more and more."

"Don’t try to sweet-talk your way out of this," Nathaniel Nathan said coldly to Vera. "You’ve only been in school for a few days and you’ve already hidden so much from me. You even dared to kiss a girl who looks like a boy. Vera Xavier, you’ve gotten a lot bolder, haven’t you!"

"But even if she looked like a boy, she’s still a girl!" Vera said earnestly. "It was a life-or-death situation. Even if she had been a boy, I would have done the same thing to save her."

’She had already thought this through. In her past life, she had been a medical professional. Having experienced death herself, no one respected life more than she did.’

’This time she had saved a girl, but if she encountered a man in need of emergency aid next time, she would save him as well.’

’On this point, she would not compromise.’

Nathaniel Nathan’s brow furrowed. He reached out and lifted her chin. "Or have you failed to notice that there’s someone right here waiting for you to save him?"

Vera froze. The next moment, his lips were on hers.

’She instantly grew nervous. They were on the university’s main path; someone could walk by at any moment!’

But Nathaniel’s kiss was surprisingly light, and he pulled back almost immediately. "How many times did you kiss that girl?" he asked, his voice husky.

Vera froze. Staring into her eyes, he demanded, "Tell me!"

A bad feeling washed over Vera. ’So much for principles.’ She immediately caved. "From now on, even if I run into someone who needs first aid, I’ll definitely ask for your permission first!"

Nathaniel Nathan just stared at her, his gaze unwavering. She had no choice but to add, "Honestly, I only gave that girl artificial respiration once. Really, just one time!"

Nathaniel scoffed. Vera had no choice but to hold up two fingers. "Twice!"

This time, Nathaniel didn’t even bother scoffing. Vera spinelessly held up a third finger. "Three times! That’s the real number, I swear!"

’She suddenly recalled what Nathaniel had said with a dark expression when she saved Lana Sterling. He was going to claim every single one of those ’kisses’ back from her!’

’In truth, she had been so focused on saving the girl’s life that she had no idea how many times she had actually performed artificial respiration. All she could think about was that a life was at stake!’

’But now that Nathaniel was determined to settle this score, she had to give him the lowest possible number! Otherwise, her lips would probably be too swollen for her to show her face in public!’
