Chapter 658: Chapter 658: Hole in the Brain (Part 6)
The pharmaceutical factory building was complete, and the pills Vera Xavier had left behind were nearly sold out. It was time to start production.
With Jack Judd around, practically no one came to cause trouble at the factory, and everything was starting to fall into place.
Vera Xavier knew that most of the customers buying from the factory were there for the medicine that treated the aftereffects of cerebral hemorrhages. At the factory’s current scale, producing just this one drug would be enough to sustain its basic operations. This made acquiring the necessary machinery a pressing issue.
Vera Xavier knew she couldn’t possibly manage the factory herself, so she gave the formula for the cerebral hemorrhage medication directly to Yorke Young. Yorke had been worried about this lately. The medicine was about to sell out, and he was just about to ask Vera to make another batch. He never expected her to just hand over the formula to him!
He couldn’t help but ask, "Vera, aren’t you afraid I’ll run off with the formula if you just give it to me like this?"
"No, I’m not. I trust you," Vera Xavier replied with a smile.
And she did. Vera Xavier knew she could trust Yorke Young on this. The leftover piece of Emperor Green jade had been a test of character for both the Cheney and Young families. Because of that, Vera truly wasn’t worried.
That’s why her answer was so simple and direct, without any empty pleasantries.
It was precisely because her words were so straightforward that the phrase "I trust you" brought Yorke Young immense comfort. It also gave him a sense of Vera Xavier’s remarkable decisiveness.
Initially, Yorke Young had only agreed to help Vera Xavier manage the factory for Nathaniel Nathan’s sake, and because of her Emperor Green jade. But over this period, he discovered that Vera was completely hands-off, letting him run the factory and never once questioning how the funds were being used.
Jack Judd was also busy helping out, and at first, Yorke Young had thought Vera had arranged for Jack to monitor him. But after observing for a while, he realized that wasn’t the case at all.
Jack Judd was only responsible for external affairs, running errands, and showed no intention of supervising him whatsoever.
His own principles were simple: work diligently and be reliable. The only way he could repay Vera Xavier’s unconditional trust was by doing an even better job.
This girl, who was clearly only eighteen, somehow made Yorke Young feel as if he’d found a kindred spirit.
Since Vera Xavier trusted him unconditionally, he felt he had to do even better. That was why every month, he sent the financial statements to the Preston Family for Zachary Preston to review.
Holding the phone’s receiver, Yorke Young said softly, "Thank you for your trust. I’ll take good care of the factory."
The two of them then discussed the factory’s future and sustainable development. Yorke Young went on to explain all the current issues Vera needed to be aware of, and Vera had no objections to how he was handling things.
From what Vera could tell, Yorke Young was indeed handling everything very well. His competence put her completely at ease. ’Looks like I can be a happy, hands-off boss after all,’ she thought. ’For the next few years while I’m at university, I just need to make sure the factory’s foundation is solid.’
After hanging up with Yorke Young, she called the owner of the apothecary. She listed a few medicinal herbs and the quantities she needed, telling them to ship the order to Crestfall.
After taking care of these matters, she let out a light sigh of relief. She felt a little closer to her goal now.
’I have to get stronger as quickly as possible. Otherwise, I’ll always be the weaker one when I go up against Susan Caldwell. I have to find a way to expose her identity soon. Even if I don’t go back to the Caldwell Family, I absolutely cannot let Susan Caldwell keep throwing her weight around under the Caldwell name!’
