The Bodyguard King's CEO Wife
Chapter 1974: Telling a Story
Chapter 1974: Chapter 1974: Telling a Story
Ji Feng stood powerless before Ye Shikai, like a lamb waiting for slaughter. In the blink of an eye, he was dead. Despite the fact that the best way to deal with this traitor Ji Feng was to have Ji Tao or Ji Qian clean their own house, Ye Shikai acted in their stead—they surely wouldn’t mind.
With Ji Feng dead, the puppet of the Ji family was gone, and the position of Family Head remained Ji Tao’s. Ye Shikai’s purpose in this journey included eliminating the turncoat Ji Feng, but more importantly, he was here to find Chen Yuxin.
Chen Yuxin harbored grand ambitions but had no interest whatsoever in a mere Ji family inner residence. Her reason for lingering at the Ji family for days was likely to seek those ancient tomes and techniques the family treasured—those were the true treasures.
Ye Shikai donned the Netherworld King’s Helmet, allowing him to slip invisibly into the Ji family’s vault. Sure enough, outside the vault, he saw Chen Yuxin’s personal guards and leaders of the Shadow Organization like Feng Ling; it was certain that Chen Yuxin herself was inside.
Though the Shadow Organization guarded outside, Ye Shikai moved as if no one was there, smoothly infiltrating within. This was the Ji family’s vault, generally accessible only by direct lineage members of the Ji family and certain appointed elders. Even Ye Shikai had never entered before.
"The Family Head has ordered these documents to be delivered." Just upon entering the vault, Ye Shikai saw several female attendants carrying numerous documents. According to them, these documents were meant for Ji Qian to review, conveniently showing him the way.
Invisible, Ye Shikai went undetected and soon followed the female attendants to the secret chamber of manuscripts. Upon entering, he found Chen Yuxin rummaging through something, looking quite anxious—perhaps an important document.
"Place the documents on the table and leave." Chen Yuxin ordered.
"Yes, Family Head."
"Yes."
The female attendants laid down the documents and promptly left, closing the door behind them.
"What are you searching for?" Ye Shikai suddenly spoke after removing the Netherworld King’s Helmet.
"Kai, why are you here?" Chen Yuxin never imagined Ye Shikai would suddenly appear here. Initially startled, her face turned from shock to joy once she regained her composure.
"Kai, wonderful! I knew you would return." Chen Yuxin rushed over and hugged him tightly.
"Kai, I knew you’d come to your senses. Let’s join forces. Now Yanjing is already dominated by us, and soon, the whole of Huaxia—or rather, all families—will no longer have cultivators. Becoming king among cultivators, wasn’t that your old dream? We can achieve it together." Chen Yuxin spoke tirelessly, excitedly, completely overlooking Ye Shikai’s cold eyes watching her as if she were a stranger...
"Xin, let me tell you a story." Ye Shikai murmured gently, pushing her away with his hand.
"Once upon a time, there was a woman named Mi Wen, a descendant of Chu State’s royal family during an era of widespread war..." Over an hour, Ye Shikai recounted the story gradually, his own story, and perhaps those moments of travel might have been his fantasy. Maybe during that time, he was asleep in the tomb for two months. Regardless, those Qin Dynasty days were unforgettable.
The current Chen Yuxin resembled Mi Wen back then, with grand ambition but consumed by love—Mi Wen, who wanted to rule with him, didn’t hesitate to act against He Linghan to keep him by her side. The ultimate outcome was likely becoming a lonely figure. Ye Shikai wasn’t sure what transpired after he left. Perhaps Mi Wen is still searching for him, but in that era, finding a modern person was simply impossible.
"Enough." Chen Yuxin suddenly screamed, nearing collapse.
"I am not Mi Wen, and I don’t care who she is." Chen Yuxin shouted loudly, prompting guards at the door to quickly open it.
"Get out!" Chen Yuxin cursed.
"Y-yes, Family Head."
"Kai, tell me what you mean."
"I’ll ask only once, Xin, do you persist only for your ambitions despite the deaths of so many?" Ye Shikai murmured.
"I won’t give up, Kai. You’ll achieve this with me, right?"
"If I were fixated on ambitions, I’d have remained with Mi Wen and ruled the world instead of returning." Ye Shikai sighed. Back then, he lacked the power to stay and protect He Linghan, couldn’t stop Mi Wen’s massacre, nor bring He Linghan back to the modern era. This was always regrettable, but now, he wouldn’t let it happen again—he must stop Chen Yuxin and must succeed.
"Since you’ve resolved, I won’t persuade you, nor will you persuade me." Ye Shikai gently waved his hand, arguing right or wrong was pointless; the final result lay in heaven and time.
"Kai, are you trying to flee now?" Chen Yuxin was already prepared; guards outside poised to act if Ye Shikai forcibly escaped.
"Daring to come here, I’m fully prepared. Do you think these people can stop me?"
"Alright then, let’s try." Chen Yuxin brandished the Chunjun Sword and thrust it towards him.
The sword’s edge faintly dodged—it was a probe.
Ye Shikai drew the You Xi Sword to parry, discerning from the sword qi that Chen Yuxin didn’t intend to kill but to ensnare him. As expected, yet he couldn’t afford to waste time.
Break out.
Ye Shikai darted towards the exit, the door guards immediately attempting to block.
"Netherworld King Spell—Shadow Clone."
Ye Shikai created numerous avatars, each identical, darting in various directions. The Chen family guards, unfamiliar with these tricks, were at a loss, heads bobbing like wave drums, bodies standing motionless, unsure whom to pursue.
"Which one is the husband?"
"Quick, disperse and chase."
"Yes."
"Yes."
Ye Shikai smoothly exited the Ji family’s vault, donned the Netherworld King’s Helmet, effortlessly evading Chen family guards. With a leap, he exited the Ji family mansion.
"Boss, you finally came out." Ghost arrived by plan, driving up to him.
"Alright, let’s get going, leave Yanjing."
