Chapter 1902: Chapter 1902: Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect

Wuyan was right, the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect is not only deadly but also extremely hard to detect. Once it kills its host, the insect dies in a short time and disappears entirely, dissolving into the blood so completely that even an autopsy cannot uncover it. Moreover, the killer stabbed Tianjing in the chest to disguise it as a fatal knife wound, but this didn’t escape Jin Li’s eyes. As the director of the National Security Bureau, he indeed has some skills.

Speaking of it, these poisonous insects could likely be the nemesis of all cultivators. As cultivators with Inner Strength, they have physical qualities and vitality far superior to ordinary people, rendering normal Martial Force almost useless against them. Yet, these deadly creatures, undetectable and lethal regardless of the victim’s cultivation level, leave nearly no effective means of prevention. Moreover, if one falls victim to a poisonous insect, unless saved by the user of the insect or an expert in Worm Skills, death is almost certain.

"That being said, Aphrodite also died from a poisonous insect." Ye Shikai murmured, remembering that she had died from a Red Poison Gu, not a Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect. Though different, both were equally fatal. The Red Poison Gu burned not only Aphrodite’s body but reduced it to ashes; within just a few days, two expert cultivators have died under these distinct poisonous insects.

"Red Poison Gu and Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect, both are extremely rare and deadly. I hadn’t expected that besides us in the Worm Sect, someone else in the world possesses these insects," Wuyan remarked casually.

"So, you think the people who killed Aphrodite and Tianjing are the same group?" Jin Li questioned.

"Aphrodite was the Main God of the foreign Underworld, while Tianjing was the leader of the Divine Weapon Special Group under the National Security Bureau. Their identities had no relation, entirely separate like two realms. Their sole connection was the HST project; both probably obtained crucial information about the project, such as... the identity of the mastermind," Ye Shikai analyzed, finding it the most logical deduction.

"Wuyan, who else might have these kinds of poisonous insects?" Jin Li asked.

"As I’ve said, the practice of cultivating poisonous insects is not exclusive to the Worm Sect, though it is the largest group. I’m not entirely sure about others," Wuyan continued, "they possess both the Red Poison Gu and Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect—perhaps more potent insects, so you better be careful."

"Wuyan, I would like to ask you one thing," Ye Shikai suddenly said.

"What is it?"

"Since the murderer also uses poison insects, I hope you can stay in Yanjing for a while to help us. It won’t be long, and I’ve obtained some treasures and cultivation resources from the Kunlun Mountain ruins; I’ll give them all to your Worm Sect as compensation. How about it?"

"Indeed, Wuyan, I also hope you can stay here for a bit," Jin Li added on.

"In that case, I agree. Additionally, I have brought a few elders and disciples, so I hope you can arrange a place for us to stay," Wuyan nodded slightly, agreeing.

"Great, I’ll make arrangements right away."

Outside the National Security Bureau.

"Come over here for a moment."

Just as Ye Shikai was about to leave, Wuyan stopped him.

"Wuyan, I truly appreciate your help. With you in Yanjing, I’m much more at ease," Ye Shikai expressed his gratitude sincerely, but Wuyan’s expression seemed somewhat grave, indicating she wasn’t very pleased.

"What’s wrong? You seem a bit upset," Ye Shikai asked.

"Why were you being so polite just now?" Wuyan stated coolly, catching Ye Shikai off guard, leaving him momentarily speechless.

"You... you think I was too polite earlier?" Ye Shikai started to understand Wuyan’s implication. Politeness is generally considered good manners, but it usually applies to outsiders. Wuyan seemed slightly upset likely because Ye Shikai had always treated her as an outsider.

"Have you always seen me as an outsider?" Wuyan questioned.

"No, I... I was just worried you might refuse," Ye Shikai replied.

"Why would you think I’d refuse?" Wuyan countered.

"That’s because the Worm Sect has always avoided worldly matters. Honestly, even you coming to Yanjing for Tianjing’s autopsy was beyond my expectations, let alone staying to help," Ye Shikai explained.

"If it’s your request, I’ll agree to it." Wuyan’s words suddenly lifted his spirits. It reminded him when this "little girl" asked Ye Shikai to marry her; he was utterly at a loss. Senior Dugu’s explanation was that Wuyan had developed feelings, though he wasn’t sure how credible that was, but Wuyan’s tone was serious.

"Ahem, since you’re willing to stay and help, that’s certainly the best. Without you, I might not survive against the poisonous insects, but now that you’re willing to stay, I’m reassured."

..................

"So, are you satisfied with your accommodation?" Ye Shikai led Wuyan and her entourage to a hotel. This was a property under Luo Shiqi’s name, and he had reserved an entire building for the Worm Sect. It’s not far from the National Security Bureau; a ten-minute walk only. If someone falls victim to a poisonous insect again, the Worm Sect can provide treatment immediately.

"Of course, though I’m used to living among the mountains and countryside, suddenly coming to a bustling city is somewhat overwhelming." Wuyan set down her luggage. She had quite a bit, not clothes, but some "equipment," likely related to the poisonous insects, but Ye Shikai couldn’t understand them.

"Alright, if you need anything, just inform the attendants, and they will assist you right away."

"Very well."

"Alright then, if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave." Ye Shikai nodded in agreement.

"Wait a minute." Suddenly, Wuyan held Ye Shikai’s arm again, indicating she had something to say.

"What’s up? Do you have something else in mind?"

"Actually, you shouldn’t be involved in this matter," Wuyan suddenly stated, leaving Ye Shikai a bit perplexed.

"What do you mean by that?" Ye Shikai asked.

"On my way to Yanjing, I learned a lot. Those involved with the HST project have been targeted. Previously, aside from Tianjing and Jin Li, you were closest to the truth. Now, with Tianjing gone and Jin Li as the bureau director—with high security at the National Security Bureau—aren’t you afraid you might be the next target?" Wuyan’s words echoed what Chen Yuxin had said; they both warned Ye Shikai to step back.
