"Who are you?"
Raon asked; his expression was dark as he glared at the assassin with anger.
On the other hand, the assassin simply stared at him in silence, but then it moved.
"....?!"
Its figure turned into dust before Raon’s senses could even detect movement near him.
Clank! Boom!
He raised his sword and blocked the assassin’s multiple attacks.
’A Six-Star Awakened.’
Raon was a Peak Stage Seven-Star Awakened.
He could easily kill the assassin, but he really needed to know what their purpose was.
’I don’t understand why there are assassins appearing out of nowhere.’
The Viscount and his wife had not been in the mansion for an entire month.
Raon believed it was because of the war, which was why all the nobles were busy at the Royal Palace.
So he assumed the assassins had two objectives.
’First, they could be assassins from an enemy kingdom trying to kill me, or second...’
The second possibility would be the assassination of Young Miss Vilenia.
He was her Guardian Knight.
His duty was to keep safe the little girl he had sworn to protect for the rest of his life.
’First, I need to know whether they truly came to kill me, the young miss, or perhaps there is something else.’
He was not worried about Vilenia’s safety; her maid, despite not looking like it, was a Six-Star Awakened and was also very well trained.
She could fight against several Awakened of the same rank. Meanwhile, Raon decided to extract information from the assassins.
Clank! Clank!
The sword and dagger clashed against each other, sending sparks everywhere.
Raon moved his body and struck the assassin with his fist.
Bang!
The assassin’s body was sent flying, but before it hit a wall, Raon moved at great speed and appeared in the path of its flight.
Then he delivered a powerful blow.
Bang!
The assassin crashed onto the floor as cracks spread throughout the hallway.
Raon grabbed the assassin by the back of the neck and lifted it up. Then he pressed a finger against its forehead.
He sent mana into it and forced it to wake from its unconscious state. Then Raon muttered.
"Manipulation."
He used his Unique Trait, which allowed him to control Awakened of the same level or lower than himself.
Of course, if the enemy’s mana was even 0.1% higher than Raon’s, the Unique Trait would not work.
After using his Unique Trait, Raon asked.
"Tell me, what is your objective?"
The assassin’s body twitched as it opened its mouth.
"O-objective... Wi..."
But before it could even say anything about it, the assassin’s body swelled up.
The flesh of its body turned a purplish black, and suddenly, it exploded.
Bang!
Chunks of flesh flew everywhere. Raon used mana and covered his body with a thin layer of Mana.
He covered his head with both arms, and after the explosion, he looked at the remains of the assassin.
"No, damn it..."
He cursed, but then tried to calm himself.
Raon realized that something was strange.
He did not know what it was, because he could not extract any information from the assassins.
However, he intuitively knew that the assassins had an objective that was neither him nor Vilenia.
’Damn it, what was it about to say right before it exploded?’
The first syllable it had spoken had been distorted, as the explosion happened in less than a second.
So unfortunately, he could not hear anything.
"Young miss..."
Regaining his senses, Raon ran toward Young Miss Vilenia’s room.
On the way, he killed every assassin he encountered, and after running for a few seconds, he finally reached the second floor of the mansion and entered the young miss’s room.
Upon entering, there were several bodies on the floor.
There were around four dead assassins. In the center was Teresa, Vilenia’s maid.
And, in one corner, was Young Miss Vilenia.
Raon approached her and carried her in his arms.
"Everything is fine, Young Miss Vilenia. We will go somewhere safer, so close your eyes when we leave the room, understood?"
Outside, in the hallway, there were dozens of bodies. The smell of blood was intense, and the scene was clearly unpleasant for a child.
Raon stood up and looked at Teresa.
"Where is Williams, Miss Teresa?"
Teresa wiped the blood from her body, then turned toward Raon and said.
"I don’t know. I think he was in the training room until an hour ago, so perhaps he is in his room."
Before Teresa could carry Vilenia, Raon felt a bad premonition.
Then he tightened his grip on his sword and said:
"Let’s go. We will look for Williams first."
He quickly left the room. Raon used his senses and confirmed that there were no assassins still alive on the second floor of the mansion.
So he went down to the first floor and passed through the main hall until he reached the area where the servants’ bedrooms were located.
Upon arriving, he noticed several bodies on the floor: some maids and the rest of the assassins.
There were also numerous cuts everywhere.
Raon observed the scene for a second before running toward Williams’ room.
Upon entering, he found Williams without a single injury.
However, surrounding him were dozens of bodies.
After entering, Raon looked at him in surprise before changing his expression to one of concern.
"Williams, are you alright? You’re not injured, are you?"
He examined his body and confirmed that he only had some blood stains from the assassins, but no injuries.
"I’m fine, Sir Raon, but the young lady Vilenia is alright, right?"
Raon looked at him for a moment before letting out a sigh.
’This child doesn’t worry about himself...’
"She’s fine, but right now, we need to leave this place."
"Where are we going now, Sir Raon?"
"We’re going to the summer house."
Raon turned around, and behind him, Williams silently followed.
***
A few minutes earlier.
I placed a chair in front of the door and took a seat.
I crossed my arms while thinking.
’When are these guys going to make their move?’
It had already been several minutes since assassins had infiltrated the entire mansion.
Actually, since my master said that the mansion would be filled with assassins at the end of the Prologue, I had naturally extended my senses within a one-kilometer radius.
So, ever since then, I had already noticed the presence of the assassins.
’Now I can extend my senses several kilometers and no longer be limited to just a few meters thanks to the Divine Body.’
Before, I could barely endure the pressure in my head after extending my senses to three hundred meters. Now, I could do it across several kilometers.
In any case, I waited for a couple of seconds before the door opened.
In the blink of an eye, I moved and, using the Third Form of Inverted Heaven, instantly killed the assassins in the hallway.
Then I returned to the room, where dozens of them had appeared.
I then swung my sword, using the Third Form once again.
Countless slashes emerged through space, creating multiple paths.
The assassins’ bodies were covered in cuts before they collapsed to the ground, completely dead.
’Mhm, they’re only Four-Star Awakened, so I don’t know how strong I am right now.’
I had become much stronger than I had imagined when I advanced to Five Stars.
And since then, I had only trained and grown even stronger, as my Divine Body absorbed mana on its own.
So, I had no idea how strong I had become.
Regardless, after finishing my work here, Raon and the others appeared shortly afterward.
"Williams, are you alright? You’re not injured, are you?"
Raon carefully examined me, and then I answered:
"I’m fine, Sir Raon, but the young lady Vilenia is alright, right?"
He let out a sigh and then continued.
"She’s fine, but right now, we need to leave this place."
"Where are we going now, Sir Raon?"
"We’re going to the summer house."
Just as he turned around after saying that, several notifications appeared in front of me.
They were not from the System, but rather from a kind of system that Memory Gates possessed.
〖You have survived the death of Williams, the Squire〗
〖Raon Rosenberg’s Story Progress: 30%〗
〖You have cleared the Prologue of Lord of Happiness〗
〖Raon Rosenberg’s Story, Chapter One〗
〖Scene: "Drifting Kingdom"〗
〖The player’s consciousness will be sent to Chapter One〗
At that moment, while walking behind Raon, my consciousness slowly began to fade.
The world around me spun before becoming completely dark.
Then I suddenly opened my eyes.
"....."
I looked at a ceiling faintly illuminated by a floating sphere of light.
I blinked before sitting up. I got out of bed and then sat back down on it.
Then I stretched my body and finally looked around.
I was in a fairly neat room. Nearby, my sword was resting against the wall.
"Ah, well. Now only Chapter One and Chapter Two remain."
Remembering what would happen in this Chapter, all I could feel was exhaustion.
’Seriously, I don’t want to experience other people’s emotions.’
