Chapter 1241: Chapter 1238: Reunion After a Long Separation 6

Today, Li Zhen remained silent, merely listening quietly while everyone chatted and laughed.

He was the only one who noticed the changes in Yan Xixi—her face had become very serene and stable. Moreover, she dressed much more plainly.

She even wore a simple colored dress and flat shoes.

Completely washed clean of glamor.

No longer the radiant Asian beauty at Harvard University’s graduation ceremony. Nor the wandering woman, with a large backpack, dust-covered during times of life and death partings.

Now, she was very simple.

But still intensely beautiful.

And, that kind of freshness made her stand out even more, as if no matter the clothes or the outfit, none of it mattered, as she made them shine—not that they added to her beauty.

She was married.

She had told him this early on.

Yet, he did not spread the news. He was never a talkative person; if Yan Xixi did not say anything herself, then no one could be her spokesperson.

But youthful concerns, in the end, are a regret ten thousand times over.

“Li Zhen, thank you.”

He smiled faintly: “No need to be polite.”

“How is Uncle Huang doing?”

“He’s very well. Before coming back this time, I went to see him. He’s in good health and plans to go hiking in Yellowstone Park with a few old gentlemen. Oh, he also mentioned you, said your dishes are delicious.”

Yan Xixi sighed: “It was rude of me to leave without saying goodbye at the time.”

“No, he completely understands. The situation was urgent; you couldn’t say goodbye. Moreover, Uncle Huang is by nature optimistic; he’s long seen through these things, so he lives much more freely and comfortably than he did back home.”

She mused: Only without Aunt Huang.

If Aunt Huang were around, no telling how much happier Old Huang’s situation would be.

Yan Xixi whispered: “Is there news of Huang Xiaojue?”

Li Zhen glanced at her, looking troubled, as if unsure how to respond.

Yan Xixi’s heart sank, immediately understanding that there were things Li Zhen meant to speak to her about privately. She whispered: “Are you free these days?”

“I’ll be staying for about half a month, helping my parents handle some things.”

“Then let’s schedule another time.”

Seeing that it was getting late, she couldn’t sit for long, so when classmates suggested going out in the evening, she had to politely stand up: “I still have some matters and must take my leave. How about this, I’ll make arrangements tomorrow and host everyone.”

Li Xianzhen called out: “Yan, you’re really letting us down; we came especially to see you.”

She gave a wry smile, unable to mention her pregnancy.

Only tactfully: “I’m not feeling well today; I’ll host you all tomorrow.”

Li Zhen noticed she didn’t look well and immediately said: “Let’s talk tomorrow then, Yan Xixi, you should go rest first.”

The group escorted her out the door, and Li Xianzhen stepped forward, half-jokingly, half-seriously: “Yan… I want to ask one last time: do I still have a chance? You’ve died once, can you not consider me?… If you agree, we can elope right away…”

He had just extended his hand when suddenly, it was firmly gripped by a large hand.

He froze, only to see a tall, robust man firmly holding his hand.

“Buddy, I can answer for her: you have no chance at all. Not now, not in the future, not even in the next life.”

He became furious: “What are you doing? Who are you?”
