He agreed readily: "Okay, I won’t give you any more property."

She chuckled, blinking her eyes: "Actually, I’ve already received a very expensive bride-price..."

He was curious: "What?"

"The Empress Dowager gave me a set of insanely luxurious jewelry. I think this set is only worthy of the Oil King; normal people really can’t H-old it, hehe... It’s just way too valuable... I get a bit uneasy every time I think of it..."

Wan Donglin burst out laughing: "You’re being silly. I know that necklace set; it’s the only gift my dad left to the Empress Dowager. Sure, it’s pricey, but she’s always thought it was tacky, because normal people simply wouldn’t have the face to wear that shackle-like thing outside. It’s basically announcing to the world: Look how rich I am, how rich I am, how rich I am... Hahaha. The Empress Dowager has never worn it, so she gave it to you. I don’t think you’ll find many occasions where you can actually wear it out either..."

Yan Xixi was amused and wouldn’t accept that: "I’m going to wear it out just to see."

"When?"

"At the wedding! Hmph, just wait and see."

"Haha, wearing it at the wedding is perfect. But I bet other than that one time, you really won’t have the nerve to wear it again. So yeah, that set of jewelry is totally something you keep at the bottom of the chest, a proper heirloom."

The prenuptial agreement wasn’t finished until half a month later.

When Yan Xixi saw such a thick stack, even though she’d been mentally prepared, she was still secretly shocked. Clearly, Wan Donglin had done his homework thoroughly.

He grinned: "Xixi, there’s a lot in there. Read through it slowly. I’ve already signed both copies; it only takes your signature for it to take effect. But don’t rush, take your time to read it."

She laughed: "There’s so much, how could I finish reading it? I trust you anyway, no need to go through it line by line."

Just follow the rules of the game, why bother checking every clause!

Besides, would she really not trust Wan Donglin’s character?

When her pen fell on the signature line, Wan Donglin reminded her again: "Xixi, you really should read it. It is a major life event, after all."

"No need. There’s too much, I can’t read it all now. I’ll sign first and then read it slowly later."

She was very straightforward, signing her name directly on the last page. Then she moved her own copy into a drawer and shut it.

Wan Donglin mused aloud: "Silly girl, aren’t you afraid of getting the short end of the stick? I might sell you off and you wouldn’t even know. The rules in the business world are brutal; you really can’t be like this."

She replied righteously: "Marriage isn’t a business deal. ’Good enough’ is good enough."

"You have absolutely no clear sense of your own rights."

She rolled her eyes: "I don’t believe for a second you’d screw me over."

He said viciously: "In fact, I already did screw you over."

She burst out laughing: "So what if you did? All my earlier assets were given by you anyway; at worst you’re just taking them back. From my perspective, what did I lose? It’s really not important, okay? Besides, I can get a high-paying job anytime; I’ll never have to worry about food and clothes, I’m not scared! And even if we take ten thousand steps back, even if you completely screw me over, I’ll just stick to you and live off you for the rest of my life. What would I be afraid of? We’ve got a marriage certificate, don’t we? Why on earth should I be scared of you?"

He stared at her smug expression and suddenly had an illusion: that old Yan Xixi had come back to life—the Yan Xixi from before she went to South Country University, always giving orders, smug and pleased with herself, proud and tsundere like a queen at any moment.
