Chapter 247: He Won’t Blame You!

Zoey nodded.

"Yes, he just did." She said, then gestured toward the sofa near the window, inviting Sienna to sit with her.

"Ah... sorry," Sienna murmured awkwardly before walking over.

The two women sat across from each other, and out of habit, Sienna reached for the tea set on the coffee table.

"Would you like some green tea?"

Zoey smiled politely and shook her head. "No, thank you."

Sienna nodded before setting the teapot back down.

For a brief moment, neither of them spoke. The atmosphere was much calmer than it had been the day before. However, Sienna still found it difficult to believe how different Zoey seemed.

Finally, Zoey broke the silence. "Like I said, I came here to apologize to you." Her tone was gentle and sincere. "Not because Zach asked me to, but because I realized I went too far yesterday."

Sienna gazed into Zoey’s eyes, searching for any sign of doubt behind her words. However, she found none.

For the first time since they had met, Zoey wasn’t looking at her with suspicion or disapproval. Instead, there was only honesty and a hint of guilt.

Knowing that made Sienna feel much lighter.

She had been worried that the tension between them would continue, making every future meeting uncomfortable. Now, seeing Zoey sincerely admit her mistake eased a burden she hadn’t realized she had been carrying.

Even so, she wasn’t sure how to respond.

Perhaps noticing her hesitation, Zoey continued speaking before the silence became awkward.

"I really hope you will accept my apology, Sienna." She smiled warmly. "When Zach told me everything this morning, I was honestly surprised. But after the shock wore off, I was genuinely happy to learn that he was already married to you... and even happier to find out that you’re Sky’s mother."

The sincerity in Zoey’s voice softened Sienna’s expression. A gentle smile slowly appeared on her lips. She realized that the hostility she had seen yesterday had disappeared completely, replaced by genuine warmth.

"I’ve already forgotten what happened yesterday, Zoey," Sienna said honestly. "So there’s nothing for you to worry about."

She paused briefly before smiling with a hint of embarrassment.

"Actually... I wanted to apologize too. If I sounded rude yesterday, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to disrespect you."

Zoey let out a quiet laugh and shook her head.

"You weren’t rude," she admitted. "You were just protecting yourself."

Sienna smiled back, feeling the last traces of tension between them gradually disappear.

Although yesterday had started their relationship on the wrong foot, today’s conversation gave her hope that things could finally move in a better direction. It wasn’t just because Zoey had apologized, but because, for the first time, they were speaking to each other not as rivals, but as two women who were finally trying to understand one another.

"Well, I won’t take up any more of your time," Zoey said playfully as she prepared to stand. "I’m going to go back to my office."

"Zoey, wait! There’s something I’m..." Sienna called before Zoey could get to her feet.

Zoey paused and sat down again, looking at her curiously. "Yes? Is there something you want to tell me?"

Sienna took a slow breath before answering.

"I’ve decided to resign."

The smile on Zoey’s face gradually disappeared. She stared at Sienna in disbelief, and confusion quickly replaced the cheerful expression she had worn just moments earlier.

"Why did you suddenly decide to resign again?" she asked, unable to hide her concern. "Didn’t I already apologize to you?"

Sienna could see the genuine worry in Zoey’s eyes. She knew Zoey was afraid that her decision was still connected to what had happened yesterday, so she smiled reassuringly before explaining.

"After talking with Zach and thinking about it carefully, I decided that I don’t want to work a nine-to-five job anymore." She spoke calmly, hoping to put Zoey’s mind at ease. "I want to spend more time at home with Sky."

Zoey didn’t respond immediately. She simply looked at Sienna, studying her expression as though trying to determine whether she was telling the truth or politely making an excuse.

The last thing Zoey wanted was for Zachary to blame her for Sienna’s resignation. More importantly, she didn’t want the relationship they had just begun to repair to become strained again.

After watching her quietly for a few moments, Zoey finally smiled. "So... does Zach know about this?"

"Not yet," Sienna answered honestly. "But he knows I’ve been thinking about it."

Zoey let out a long sigh before leaning back against the sofa.

"Even though I agree with your decision," she admitted with a helpless smile, "I’m still worried that my foolish brother will come looking for me again and scold me."

Sienna couldn’t help smiling awkwardly. She felt a little guilty because she understood exactly why Zoey was worried. Although Zachary loved his sister, he could also be incredibly protective, especially when it came to her.

She had already seen how serious he became after hearing about yesterday’s incident, so she understood why Zoey feared he would misunderstand the situation.

"Zoey," Sienna said gently, "I’ll talk to him myself. Don’t worry. He won’t blame you for my decision."

A relieved smile immediately spread across Zoey’s face. "Thank you, sister-in-law."

Hearing Zoey call her that once again warmed Sienna’s heart. Just yesterday, they had been standing on opposite sides, unable to understand each other. Now, Zoey addressed her with genuine affection instead of suspicion. The change made Sienna realize how much their relationship had improved in such a short time.

Feeling encouraged by the warm atmosphere between them, Sienna decided to share another part of her plan.

"Oh, right," she said with an excited smile. "Besides staying at home... I might start a business too."

Zoey’s eyes lit up immediately. "Really?" she asked excitedly. "What kind of business?"

Seeing her enthusiasm made Sienna smile even wider.

"It’ll be something small," she explained. "Nothing is certain yet, but my best friend and I are thinking about opening a restaurant."

Zoey blinked in surprise before her excitement quickly returned.

"Sienna," she said eagerly, "why don’t you go into business with me instead?"

Sienna immediately shook her head with an apologetic smile.
