The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress
Chapter 1393: The Discarded Jade Pendant
Chapter 1393: Chapter 1333: The Discarded Jade Pendant
After talking for a long time, Adrian Desmond tried everything, from sweet to harsh words. If Kevin Taylor still didn’t agree, Adrian would throw him out.
When Adrian’s patience finally ran out, Kevin, the stubborn one, finally yielded.
“Fine! I’ll leave tomorrow,” Kevin said sadly, looking a bit pitiful.
Adrian looked up at Kevin and smiled, “You’re so obedient, I’m really happy. I’ll have someone send you to your grandpa tomorrow…”
“No need.” Kevin interrupted Adrian, not appreciating his goodwill.
“Suit yourself then.” Adrian couldn’t be bothered with him.
Kevin glanced at Adrian, turned, and walked away. Just as Adrian was about to get up, Kevin came back. Adrian asked, “You’re not having second thoughts, are you?”
“…”
“I’m telling you, you must leave!”
Kevin pulled out a jade pendant from his neck and shoved it into Adrian’s hand.
Adrian asked, “What’s this for?”
Kevin said, “My grandpa said this is our family heirloom. When I get married, it’s for my wife. You should give it to Claire.”
Adrian was knowledgeable about jade, and with a cursory look, he saw it was just an ordinary piece. He said disdainfully,
“Such a worn-out pendant, and you intend to marry my daughter with it? Do you think my daughter isn’t worth anything?”
“My grandpa said this pendant is worth a lot!”
“Your grandpa tricked you! This jade isn’t worth more than 150 dollars. My daughter won’t wear such a cheap thing, keep it for yourself.”
Adrian didn’t take it; such cheap stuff shouldn’t be worn by his daughter.
“Just give it to Claire,” Kevin forced it into Adrian’s hand and ran off.
Adrian looked at the jade pendant in his hand, considering throwing it in the garbage, but after thinking for a bit, he put it away instead.
“Marion!”
Marion came in from outside and asked, “Sixth Master, what’s the matter?”
“Keep an eye on that kid. I don’t believe he’ll be so obedient and leave without any trouble.” Adrian tossed the jade pendant around, worried Kevin might still go after Claire.
“Yes, Sixth Master.”
…
Adrian was wrong, the next day, Kevin really obediently left.
Before leaving, he secretly watched Claire by the window for a while before leaving with Robert Wilson.
After Kevin left, Adrian bragged to Sienna Johnson, “Mrs. Desmond, I dealt with that troublesome kid. Aren’t I impressive?”
Sienna was ironing Adrian’s clothes and was annoyed by this man pestering her.
“Impressive, Sixth Master is the most impressive,” Sienna replied perfunctorily.
“So how do you plan to reward me?”
“I’m helping you iron clothes.”
Adrian looked at the neatly pressed suit and frowned, “How does that count?”
“Then what reward do you want?”
“On New Year’s Eve, accompany me to the mountains to watch the fireworks,” Adrian took the opportunity to express his wish. Ever since they had kids, the two of them hadn’t had much time for just the two of them.
Adrian was very dissatisfied with this kind of life.
Sienna shook her head, “No way! New Year’s Eve is for family reunions. That day, of course, the family has to gather together, make dumplings, watch the Spring Festival Gala, and stay up all night…”
Sienna thought this was much more fun than going up the mountain to watch fireworks. What she longed for was an ordinary life filled with everyday tasks and comforting aromas.
“Mrs. Desmond, I think you don’t love me anymore.”
“Nonsense again.”
“In Abyanabad, wives have an obligation to meet their husband’s requests for private times…”
Sienna, having finished ironing Adrian’s shirt and suit for the evening, hung them up and said leisurely, “Sixth Master, we’re in Orienta, OK? You need to adapt to local customs.”
“…”
“However, tomorrow night, we’ll have time for just the two of us.”
“A banquet with over five hundred people attending, what kind of ‘private time’ is that…. Hey, are you treating me like a fool?”
Sienna went to polish Adrian’s shoes, Adrian took them over and said, “These tasks can be done by the servant!”
“But I want to polish your shoes.”
“If you have the time, it’s better spent keeping me company in bed.”
Sienna took the shoes from his hand and smiled, “Which night have I not kept you company in bed?”
Adrian even sent the twins to the nursery next door, Sienna had never seen such a ‘jealous’ man.
Marion knocked on the door, and with Adrian’s permission, entered.
In Adrian and Sienna’s bedroom, nobody dared to casually barge in. Witnessing something they shouldn’t could provoke Adrian’s wrath, which wasn’t easily bearable.
“Why are you back?” Adrian asked.
Marion glanced at Sienna, wondering if he could talk about Kevin’s matter in Sienna’s presence. Adrian gave a look, and said, “Go ahead, what’s the matter?”
“Kevin went to Goldland…”
Sienna asked in surprise, “Kevin’s grandpa is in Sunterra, why did he go to Goldland?”
“To earn money,” Marion replied.
“Earn what money?”
Marion pulled out a bank card, handing it to Adrian with both hands. Adrian asked, “What’s this?”
“Kevin said it’s living expenses for Claire!” Marion said quietly.
Adrian glanced at Sienna and said, “What’s his meaning? Does he think I can’t afford to raise my daughter?”
Sienna then remembered there was another card Kevin left with her. Sienna got up, found the card, and handed both to Marion.
“Marion, make another trip and return these cards to him. We’re not relatives; how can we just take his money?”
Marion was also troubled, “He forced it on me and ran off. I don’t know where he is now.”
“Then send it to General Taylor,” Sienna suggested.
Adrian didn’t care where Kevin went, as long as he didn’t bother their Claire, “Give these cards to that old man, and inform him of Kevin’s whereabouts, so he doesn’t think his grandson is still with us.”
“Yes, Sixth Master.”
Adrian also recalled the jade pendant Kevin gave him and had it sent to General Taylor as well.
To his surprise, General Taylor wouldn’t accept it. Not only did he refuse, but he also sent a bunch of things back, claiming they were for his granddaughter-in-law.
Adrian wasn’t expecting someone even more thick-skinned than himself.
This time, Adrian didn’t even ask and just had the items thrown away.
Curly went to find Dylan and saw the jade pendant in the trash, picking it up, “Wow, what a beautiful pendant?”
“…”
“Finders keepers.”
Once things got into Curly’s hands, they were impossible to retrieve.
Curly put the pendant in her jewelry box, locking it away alongside a bunch of diamonds and emeralds, then hid the key.
