Chapter 1390: Chapter 1330: Raising a Child Groom
Adrian looked at Sienna Johnson’s troubled face and decided not to continue.
“I understand, I’ll drive him away tomorrow.”
Sienna nodded and said, “It’d be best to send him to his grandfather. His parents passed away, it’s quite pitiful.”
“Sleep.”
Adrian disliked how this woman spread her energy on irrelevant people. She had become softer after having kids.
“Haven’t you showered yet?”
“I showered in the morning.”
Sienna persisted and stared at Adrian, retorting, “You ate breakfast, and you’re eating dinner as well.”
“I don’t want to shower.”
Sienna replied, “If you don’t shower, don’t come to my bed.”
“Such a hassle!” he grumbled, but still went to the bathroom. Sienna prepared clean pajamas for him and laid them on the bed.
She then checked on the twins in the children’s room.
Hugo slept restlessly, and Sienna feared he might kick Claire, so they slept in separate cribs.
The room was a bit warm, so Hugo kicked off the blanket while Claire sweated. Sienna adjusted the temperature and tucked them back in.
Indoors, it felt like spring, but outside, the wind was biting cold. Snow mixed with rain lashed against the windows, making one feel chillingly cold just by looking at it.
Such ghastly weather… Sienna looked at Claire and couldn’t help but think of Kevin Taylor.
Reason told her that Kevin Taylor was not someone to provoke, but she couldn’t help but feel pity.
On a snowy night like this, Sienna thought of the stray kitten at the orphanage, unable to withstand the brutal night and perished.
When Sienna checked the next day, the kitten’s body was covered with snow and already stiff.
Dressed in a down jacket and boots, Sienna walked out.
As soon as she stepped outside, the piercing cold wind hit her, making her sneeze.
“Why is it so cold?”
The weather forecast predicted cold waves, but Sienna hadn’t expected the temperature to drop so rapidly.
She crossed the garden, which in winter was bleak and covered in white snow, leaving footprints behind as she walked.
Seeing Sienna at the gate late at night, Uncle Quinton, the doorman, thought she was heading out and advised,
“Madam, are you going out? It’s snowing heavily outside.”
Uncle Quinton had been employed by the Johnson Family for years. Adrian found him useless and planned to dismiss him, but Sienna stopped him.
Firstly, because Uncle Quinton had been with the family for many years, and secondly, because he had no children. At his age, finding a job after leaving the family would be tough, so Sienna decided to keep him.
“Uncle Quinton, are they still outside?” Sienna asked.
“Who?”
“The two camping outside the Johnson Family’s gate.”
“Are you talking about the man and the child?”
“Yes.”
Uncle Quinton replied, “When I closed the gate, they were still there. Not sure if they’ve left now.”
Despite not having children of his own, Uncle Quinton was fond of kids and couldn’t stand seeing them suffer. “It’s so cold, even inside the heated room I feel chilled. I wonder if the child’s been frozen.”
Sienna said, “Open the gate; I want to check.”
“Okay.”
Uncle Quinton opened the gate, and Sienna stepped out. Looking to the right, she saw the tent still there, albeit covered in snow.
Why were they so persistent?
Sienna walked towards them and asked, “Are you still there?”
Elliott Wilson peeked out and smiled at Sienna, “Madam, we’re here. Are you planning to let us in?”
“In such cold weather, the child could get frostbite. Can’t you take him to a nearby hotel?”
Elliott said, “I must obey Kevin Taylor’s orders. He doesn’t want to stay in a hotel, so I have no choice.”
“In this cold, he could fall ill.”
“It seems Kevin has already fallen ill…”
Sienna frowned slightly as Elliott continued, “Madam, aren’t you a doctor? Could you take a look? I’m worried he’ll get a fever and become silly…”
Elliott lifted the boy, Kevin, wrapped in a military coat. Sienna squatted down and felt his forehead; he indeed had a fever.
Sienna turned to Elliott and said, “You should take him to a hospital now.”
“Madam, can’t you treat him?” Elliott asked, holding Kevin.
“Children are different from adults. You should take him to the Children’s Hospital for a proper checkup.”
Kevin slowly opened his eyes, looked at Sienna, and in a daze, murmured, “Mom…”
“I’m not your mom,” Sienna softly replied.
Kevin reached out, grabbing Sienna’s finger. “Mom, I’m hot…” His hands were warm too.
“Kevin, you have a fever,” Sienna said.
“Mom, can you hug me?” Kevin blinked lightly, looking at Sienna, reaching out for a hug.
Elliott said, “Kevin misses his mom… He got it right: a mother-in-law is like a mom.”
Sienna glared at Elliott, displeased by his comments. “How can you be so bad at taking care of kids? How does General Taylor trust you with him?”
“He’s usually healthy.”
Adrian showed up, spotting Sienna squatting next to the tent, and approached them. “What’s going on?”
“The child has a fever.”
Adrian looked down at the child and, bending down, felt his forehead; he was indeed feverish.
Elliott deliberately commented, “Madam, it’s snowing heavily. We can’t even hail a taxi to get to the Children’s Hospital.”
Just as Sienna hesitated, Adrian spoke, “Let him come in.”
Sienna looked at Adrian in surprise, not expecting him to agree to let Kevin stay. Adrian was not usually a man of compassion.
“Well, thank you, Mr. Desmond.”
Without waiting for a reply, Elliott, afraid they might change their minds, lifted Kevin and went in.
“Let’s go, it’s too cold outside.” Adrian pulled Sienna up and embraced her shoulders.
Sienna asked, “Why?”
“Don’t you think having Kevin as a future husband for Claire is a good idea?”
“Future husband?”
“He’s young now, but we can mold him however we want.”
Sienna found it completely baffling, “Why did you suddenly change your mind? You were strongly against it before.”
“I suddenly realized Kevin is quite suitable for Claire.”
“He almost endangered Claire’s life!”
“That’s why he should marry her and spend his life atoning!”
Looking at the child in Elliott’s arms, Sienna felt uneasy imagining Kevin possibly becoming her little son-in-law.
“Adrian, I won’t let you meddle in our children’s relationships!”
