The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress

Chapter 1368 - 1308: How Do You Plan to Deal with the Culprit

  • Next Chapter

On the fifth day, although Paige Desmond still hadn’t woken up, she was transferred from the ICU to the General Ward.

The doctor originally said that if there was no deterioration after three days, she could be transferred to the General Ward, but it was delayed by two days. During these two days, Kiya felt like he was walking on the edge of a cliff, his heart constantly suspended.

Kiya arranged for Paige Desmond to be placed in a Deluxe Ward. Inside, there was a sofa, TV, private restroom, bed, and three special nurses.

Despite being transferred to the General Ward, none of the instruments on Paige Desmond were removed, and she still needed assistance from the ventilator for breathing. She was in a coma, showing no signs of waking up.

Kiya stood by, watching the doctor busy at work, filled with fear and confusion. He hoped Paige would wake up, yet didn’t know how to deal with the issue regarding the Queen Mother once she did.

The doctor adjusted the monitor, made a few notes in his book, instructed the nurse to change the medicines and administer the IV, then hurriedly left.

Kiya stopped the doctor and asked, "Doctor, how is my wife now?"

The doctor replied, "The patient was brought in very timely, the surgery was successful, and the blood clots in her brain have been completely cleared. From the test results, she’s recovering well."

Hearing these words, Kiya couldn’t relax, "Then why hasn’t she woken up? She’s been in a coma for five days now."

"One to two weeks of coma is within the normal range..." the doctor paused, not wanting to be too conclusive, "But, there are uncontrollable factors. There have been patients whose conditions worsened later, with a decline in brain stem cell survival rate, directly leading to brain stem death..."

"Brain death?" Kiya was taken aback, his lips tightly pressed.

Seeing his reaction, the doctor quickly said, "Don’t worry, the surgery was very successful, and the patient’s survival will is strong, the chances of that are very small..."

A foul smell reached the doctor’s nose, as he glanced at the man who emitted an odor and had bad breath; he said politely,

"You don’t have to stay here all the time, it’s alright to have family and friends help look after her, besides, we have doctors and nurses on duty, you don’t need to worry.

You’d better go back and rest properly, take a bath and relax."

Kiya hadn’t bathed or brushed his teeth for five days, wearing the clothes from the day of Paige’s car accident. The blood stains and dried sweat on him emanated a strong smell one could imagine.

"I’m not tired, I don’t need to rest!" Kiya completely missed the deeper meaning in the doctor’s words.

"Ahem..." the doctor pressed his fist against his lips, lightly coughed, then straightforwardly said, seeing the man didn’t understand, "Sir, during recovery, the patient has weak immunity, in your current state... it affects the patient’s recovery."

Kiya followed the doctor’s gaze and looked at himself, finally understanding the implications of the doctor’s words.

Never in his life had he been so disheveled, his clothes dirty, his beard unkempt, emitting a foul odor.

No wonder people couldn’t recognize him as Sultan of Abyanabad; he looked like a street beggar.

These five days, he didn’t dare leave for fear something would happen to Paige Desmond when he was away, and he wouldn’t make it back in time.

Kiya felt a bit embarrassed, touched his beard, and said, "I understand, thank you."

"You’re welcome."

Gavin came forward and said, "Sultan, you should go back and rest, I’ll stay here and keep an eye out. If anything happens, I’ll notify you."

Kiya was still hesitant and didn’t leave but instead said to Gavin, "Go bring me a change of clothes, and get my toothbrush and razor."

Gavin frowned slightly, seeing Kiya was adamant, he didn’t continue to persuade, "Yes, Sultan."

With Paige Desmond transferred to the General Ward, Kiya didn’t need to wear sterile clothing anymore; he sat by the bed, watching Paige Desmond.

Her face was pale, lips cracked... Kiya used a cotton swab dipped in water to gently wipe her lips. The weather in Abyanabad was hot, and he didn’t dare to turn the air conditioning too high. Her cheeks and arms had fine beads of sweat.

The nurse happened to come by for rounds, and Kiya asked, "Nurse, can I help her wipe up?"

The nurse said, "Yes, but don’t let the patient catch a cold."

"Okay."

Kiya fetched warm water from the restroom, turned off the air conditioning, and planned to wipe her down. The nurse he hired offered to help wipe Paige, but Kiya stopped them.

He used a damp towel to wipe her hands and face.

After wiping her hands and face, he lifted the thin blanket, undid the loose hospital gown, and suddenly saw the ten-centimeter-long scar from her chest to abdomen. The surgical stitches weren’t removed yet, like a centipede, shocking to the eye.

"Paige..." Kiya’s hand holding the towel trembled; he never expected Paige Desmond’s injuries to be so severe.

Her perfect body would bear an ugly scar from now on... Kiya clenched his fists, his temples throbbing, eyes filled with murderous intent.

"Paige!"

...

Gavin brought Kiya the change of clothes, and Kiya went to the hospital restroom to take a shower and shave his beard.

Gavin saw Kiya was engulfed in a low-pressure atmosphere.

During dinner, Adrian Desmond arrived with two doctors.

Seeing Adrian Desmond, Kiya felt uneasy.

Kiya stood up and said to Adrian Desmond, "Adrian, Paige is now out of danger, transferred from the ICU to the General Ward. The doctor said she will wake up soon..."

"I know, that’s why I’ve come to take her away."

"Take her away? Where to?" Kiya’s eyes suddenly tightened, "No! I won’t let you take her!"

"Kiya, my sister wants me to ask you, how do you intend to deal with the culprit?" Adrian Desmond’s eyes were icy as he questioned Kiya.

Kiya lowered his head, unable to answer.

The woman was his mother, if Kiya acted against her, it would be unfilial... yet if he didn’t give Paige justice, he owed her.

"I won’t allow anyone to hurt my sister, even if that person is the Queen Mother!" Adrian Desmond told Kiya.

"..."

"You two go check, see if there’s anything else we need to prepare. If nothing’s wrong, we’ll leave now."

At this moment, Oni called Kiya, telling him that Ella and Dylan had disappeared. Kiya looked at Adrian Desmond and asked, "Did you take Dylan and Ella away?"

"Yes."

"Why did you do that?"

Adrian Desmond said, "Don’t forget, people outside know Dylan isn’t your child, and the Queen Mother thinks so too. Since the Queen Mother could attack Paige, why wouldn’t she attack the two children?"

"..."

"Do you have to wait until both kids are lying in hospital beds like Paige, in a coma, to be satisfied?"
