"Pinky swear."

Xu Yisen childishly extended the little finger of his right hand toward her. Qin Muni was amused but still cooperatively extended her little finger to hook it with his.

Worried that Qin Muni’s mood might still be off, Xu Yisen stayed home to keep her company instead of going to work at the company that day.

Seeing this, Qin Muni suggested he accompany her to the welfare home to volunteer for a while, and then in the afternoon they would go to the Xu Family to see Grandma Xu.

Xu Yisen had no objections. After changing clothes with Qin Muni, the two set out and drove to the welfare home.

The welfare home was located near the suburbs, not very large, but it housed quite a number of children.

Over the two years, Qin Muni had become well-acquainted with the children there and had developed many feelings, hence she would secretly investigate any couple looking to adopt the welfare home’s children.

She would only feel assured in letting the children leave with their adoptive parents if she confirmed that these parents had no negative background such as domestic violence.

Today, there was a little boy about to be adopted. When Qin Muni arrived at the welfare home, the adoptive parents were just there to pick up the child.

Even though the children of the welfare home were used to goodbyes, it was still sad every time they saw a playmate with whom they had lived and laughed for a long time leave.

While the adoptive parents were in the director’s office handling the formalities, the little boy was saying goodbye to his friends, as well as the welfare home staff and volunteers.

Qin Muni had a deep impression of this little boy named Little Hai; when she first came to volunteer at the welfare home, Little Hai had just been taken in.

Due to poverty, his parents had to abandon him. At that time, he was only four years old, and now he was six. His adoptive parents decided to adopt because they couldn’t conceive and took a liking to Little Hai when they visited the welfare home, so they agreed to adopt him.

Qin Muni squatted down to maintain the same height as Little Hai, her warm eyes fixed on this little boy she had known for two years.

"Little Hai, you are an excellent and good child. Auntie is very happy that you will soon feel the warmth of a home. In the future, listen to your parents and be a good and understanding child. Listen to your teachers at school and be a good student. And you must grow up to be a good person.

This place will always be your home; remember to come back and see us when you’ve grown up. Auntie will give your parents Auntie’s contact information later, so if you miss Auntie, you can give her a call or send a text, okay?"

After bidding farewell to all his friends, Little Hai had already cried himself into sobs, and upon hearing Qin Muni’s words, he just kept nodding heavily while wiping his tears.

With a heavy heart, Qin Muni hugged the child, comforted him a bit, and then released him to say goodbye to the other volunteers.

Once Little Hai’s adoptive parents had completed the formalities, they came to pick him up. After everyone waved goodbye to Little Hai again, they stood at the gate of the welfare home, watching him get into his adoptive parents’ car, and the car slowly disappeared from view.

Scenes like these farewells are always somewhat heavy on the heart, but at the same time, everyone is happy that the children have finally found people willing to adopt them.

Qin Muni and Xu Yisen stayed at the welfare home until the afternoon before leaving. Xu Yisen, noticing her low spirits, didn’t drive directly back to the Xu Family but took her for a walk down the pedestrian street, enjoying some snacks she liked.

It was already winter, and even the afternoon breeze carried a bit of chill. Worried that Qin Muni might catch a cold, Xu Yisen took off his scarf and wrapped it around her neck.
