The Arsenal King of The Slave World
Chapter 32 — A New Companion
The atmosphere in the private hall had shifted. The heavy political tension from earlier had not completely disappeared, but it now carried a more personal weight. Seraphina sat with her hands lightly folded on the table, her deep blue eyes steady as she looked at Ren and Lyra. Behind her, Silvia remained standing in silence, her expression unreadable.
Seraphina drew a quiet breath before speaking.
“There is one more thing I wish to ask of you. It is not part of the alliance we just formed. It is a personal request… from both me and Silvia.”
Ren’s eyes narrowed slightly. Lyra remained still, waiting.
“I want you to take Silvia with you.”
The words landed clearly in the quiet room.
For a moment, neither Ren nor Lyra responded. Then Ren spoke, his tone firm and direct.
“No.”
Seraphina’s brows lifted a fraction, but she did not interrupt.
“She is a spy,” Ren continued. “A high-level operative of the Obsidian Veil. Even if you order her to follow us, her first loyalty will always be to you. We value our privacy. We do not want someone watching us from the inside and reporting every movement back to the royal court.”
Lyra nodded once beside him, her crimson eyes cool.
“We have already been followed enough,” she added quietly. “We do not need a permanent shadow.”
Seraphina did not look surprised by the refusal. Instead, she glanced sideways at Silvia. The Dark Elf’s violet eyes lowered for a brief moment before rising again. There was something heavier in her gaze now — something older than simple duty.
Seraphina’s voice softened, losing some of its earlier political sharpness.
“I understand your concern. Under normal circumstances, I would never ask this. But this is not a normal matter.”
She paused, as if choosing her next words carefully.
“When Silvia was still a child, her family was slaughtered by monsters during the fall of their settlement on that island. My mother was the one who found her among the ruins and saved her life. In return, Silvia swore an oath. She promised my mother that she would protect me and serve me until the day she found someone strong enough to help her take revenge on the monsters that destroyed her people.”
The room grew quieter.
“My mother told her that when that person appeared, Silvia would be free. Free to leave my side. Free to pursue her own vengeance. Free to live for herself again.”
Seraphina’s eyes moved to Ren.
“After watching you fight… after seeing the weapon you used and the way you carry yourself… Silvia believes you may be that person. That is why she wishes to go with you. Not as my spy. Not as an agent of the Obsidian Veil. But as someone who wants the strength to one day reclaim what was taken from her.”
Silvia finally spoke. Her voice was low, clear, and carried none of the cold professionalism she usually used.
“I will not report your movements. I will not place your secrets in anyone else’s hands. If I join you, I join as a member of your group — nothing more. My loyalty, for as long as I remain with you, will be to the party. Not to the princess.”
Ren studied her in silence. The Level 84 Dark Elf stood without arrogance or false humility. There was only a hard, quiet determination in her violet eyes.
Lyra looked at Ren, waiting for his decision. After a long moment, he spoke again.
“If you join us, there are conditions.”
Silvia inclined her head slightly, indicating that she was listening.
“First,” Ren said, “you will be one hundred percent loyal to the party. Not to the princess. Not to the Obsidian Veil. To us. If there is ever a conflict between Seraphina’s orders and the survival or goals of this group, you stand with us.”
“I accept,” Silvia replied without hesitation.
“Second. You will follow my lead. Even if your level is higher than mine. Even if you believe your experience is greater. In battle and in major decisions, I have the final word. If you cannot accept that, then this ends here.”
A faint flicker passed through Silvia’s eyes. For someone of her strength and age, submitting to the command of a much lower-level human was not a small thing. Yet after a brief silence, she nodded once.
“I will follow your command.”
Ren continued.
“Third. I will train both you and Lyra. Not as adventurers. Not as mages who only rely on their current habits. I will train you the way I believe soldiers should be trained — discipline, coordination, endurance, close combat, and the ability to fight as a unit. It will not be gentle. If you are not prepared for that, leave now.”
Lyra’s ears twitched slightly, but she did not object. Silvia’s expression remained calm, though something sharper had entered her gaze.
“I am prepared,” Silvia said. “I have waited decades for a chance to grow strong enough to return to that island and finish what was left unfinished. If your methods can make me stronger, then I will endure them.”
Ren looked at her for several more seconds, measuring the truth in her words. Finally, he gave a short nod.
“Then it’s decided. From this moment, you are a member of the party. Not a spy. Not a princess’s shadow. A companion under my command.”
Seraphina closed her eyes briefly, as if releasing a quiet breath she had been holding. When she opened them again, there was a complicated mixture of relief and sadness in her expression. She was fulfilling her mother’s promise… and at the same time, she was letting go of the person who had stood beside her for most of her life.
“Thank you,” she said softly.
Silvia turned toward the princess and lowered her head deeply, not as a subordinate delivering a report, but as someone saying goodbye to a long chapter of her life.
“I will keep the promise I made to your mother,” she said. “But from now on, my path will no longer be only at your side.”
Seraphina nodded once, her composure steady despite the emotion behind her eyes.
“I know. That is why I asked.”
The luxurious meeting hall felt different now. The political alliance still existed, the documents still lay on the table, and the island still waited across the sea. But something more personal had just been decided.
A new companion had joined them.
And with her, a new weight of responsibility, training, and future bloodshed had quietly settled onto Ren’s shoulders.
Outside, the night continued to deepen over the quiet town, unaware that the balance of several lives had just shifted once again within the walls of the inn.
