The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 192: Collecting Supplies
Chapter 192: Chapter 192: Collecting Supplies
Luna Dawson immediately called out to Francis Grant from the living room and mentioned her wish for Grandpa to join the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. She specifically emphasized that Grandpa was a Third-rank wood-element growth Superpower User and mentioned his desire to cultivate crops and solve the base’s food shortage.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Francis heard that a Third-rank wood-element growth Superpower User was willing to join the Academy, he was overjoyed. He stated outright that this wasn’t "pulling strings to get someone in," but rather Grandpa contributing to the base—a stroke of luck the base desperately sought.
He immediately used his smart bracelet to contact a leader at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. After explaining Grandpa’s situation, the other party readily agreed.
Thus, before Grandpa even returned to Kensington Base, he had directly landed a job in the cultivation team of the Academy, becoming Cultivator No. 1066. This result left him absolutely thrilled, eagerly anticipating an early return to the base so he could start his job immediately.
Early the next morning, the guards sent by Francis picked up Luna.
She muttered to herself; she had thought they were going to distribute supplies to the survivors. However, following Francis, she found herself in front of an office building, coming face-to-face with a middle-aged man in a crisp military uniform.
The man appeared to be in his forties or fifties. His figure was as tall and straight as a pine, with broad shoulders and a wide back. He wore his olive-green uniform impeccably, the epaulets on his collar glinting coldly in the morning light. His facial features were resolute. Though there were fine lines at the corners of his eyes, he didn’t look old in the slightest. His temples were slightly graying, which only made his sharp, spirited eyes stand out more, exuding the inherent authority and decisiveness of a soldier.
"Luna, this is the chief commander of the Corbin Temporary Safe Zone, Major General Thomas Dalton," Francis stepped forward quickly, introducing him in a deep voice filled with respect. He then turned to the older man and smiled. "Major General Dalton, this is the captain of Sunset Squad, Luna Dawson. She’s also a Fourth-tier Space Superpower User."
Seeing this, Luna took a half step forward. A bright yet polite smile spread across her face as she spoke in a cheerful tone. "Hello, Major General Dalton. I’ve long heard that you led your troops to establish this safe zone in Corbin, protecting so many survivors. You’re a true hero!" Her eyes were bright and her tone sincere as she spoke, radiating the lively charm of a young woman.
Major General Dalton’s originally tense expression softened a little. His sharp gaze swept over Luna. Seeing that she was so young yet composed, without the slightest hint of stage fright, a flash of approval crossed his eyes. He gave a slight nod. "You’re too kind, Captain Dawson. It’s just my duty. To grow into a Fourth-stage Superpower User at such a young age is truly a remarkable talent!" His voice was deep and powerful, carrying the steady composure unique to a soldier.
"You flatter me!" Luna grinned, her tone light and breezy. "I’m just a regular person selling my labor to earn Crystal Cores and feed my family."
Infected by her vibrant energy, Major General Dalton’s lips curled into a faint smile. "Good, very straightforward! Then let’s not delay any further. We’ll head to the supply storage point now. Those items need to be handed over to you for transport as soon as possible."
With that, he turned and took the lead, heading toward a heavily guarded area deep within the military base.
Security was incredibly tight here, with sentries stationed every few steps. The soldiers on duty gripped standard-issue rifles loaded with live ammunition, their eyes as sharp as eagles’. The surrounding walls were much higher than elsewhere, and the electric grid at the top BUZZED with blue arcs. A chilling aura permeated the air.
Following the two men through two heavy blast doors and passing a strict biometric verification, Luna finally stepped into a climate-controlled underground warehouse.
Numerous tightly sealed metal boxes were neatly stacked inside. Major General Dalton tilted his chin toward Luna. "These are classified supplies the base doesn’t currently need. Alex said you’d be taking them all with you."
Luna peeked inside and was instantly a bit bewildered; she couldn’t understand what most of the items were. There were palm-sized black metal billets, their surfaces engraved with precise patterns, feeling surprisingly heavy to the touch. Francis explained in a low voice that these were unprocessed, special titanium alloy substrates originally used to manufacture precision military components. In the apocalypse, they were top-tier materials for forging high-hardness weapons or reinforcing protective gear.
In addition, there were several jars of cold-stored microbial strains. Luna didn’t recognize a single professional term on the labels, only knowing they had been previously entrusted to the base by the local Academy of Agricultural Sciences. They were said to play a massive role in improving crop stress resistance.
There were also dismantled precision optical aiming components, compact nuclear battery prototypes, and even several rolls of aramid fiber cloth, which were less than a millimeter thick but could withstand high-velocity shrapnel.
Most of these items bore heavy traces of military scientific research. Their designs and purposes were completely beyond Luna’s comprehension, so she simply followed instructions and stored the metal boxes one by one into her space, without asking a single question.
Kevin Keane and the others had feared for Luna’s safety beforehand and insisted on tagging along, but the guards had stopped them right outside the first blast door, citing that "the transported supplies are classified; unauthorized personnel are strictly prohibited from approaching."
The group watched helplessly as Luna went inside with the two men, while they couldn’t even touch the door. They gnashed their teeth in frustration with an audible GRIND, glaring at the surrounding sentries in annoyance.
It wasn’t until Luna and the other two emerged safely that the group crowded around to ask questions. Luna only answered vaguely that they were incomprehensible military-related supplies, admitting she didn’t even know what she had stored.
Seeing that they were still sulking, she couldn’t help but find it amusing and offered a few words of comfort. Afterward, she proceeded to store a lot of trivial supplies related to food, clothing, housing, and transportation, before finally getting off work and returning to the villa.
The more supplies she loaded, the higher the remuneration Francis would have to pay.
At the thought of Crystal Cores, Luna joyfully took out several pieces of roasted lamb chops that SIZZLED with oil from her space as an extra treat for everyone. As soon as the rich aroma of meat wafted through the air, everyone began to salivate.
Ever since they came out on this mission, they had to be careful with every meal, afraid of drawing attention. After all, since entering this military base, all they could see were underfed and underclothed survivors. In the freezing wind, one could always spot people struggling to gnaw on hard steamed buns, and even children shivering in the corners from the cold.
At a time like this, for someone to be able to eat meat—it was practically a sin.
Luna knew this very well. Whenever they ate, let alone opening a window for ventilation, she wouldn’t even dare turn on the air purifiers in the villa. She deliberately circulated her spiritual power to envelop the entire villa, frequently swapping the air inside—mixed with the smell of food—with the air from her space, which carried a fresh, grassy scent.
This operation left everyone in awe. Every time mealtime rolled around, a warm, floral fragrance would inexplicably drift through the otherwise ordinary villa, fresh and soothing.
"Hahaha, guess where this floral scent is coming from?" Luna laughed so hard at their confused expressions that tears almost streamed down her face. "I swapped the food-smelling air into my space. Even if we’re just eating boxed lunches, that smell drifting outside would make people jealous. It’s better to be careful."
"Your space smells so good."
Kevin stared blankly at Luna, his gaze reminding her of Rollo whenever it tilted its head.
Luna raised an eyebrow, a hint of smugness in her tone. "Since it’s mine, how could it not smell good?"
