Chapter 608: Her Mark Said Mine

Serena felt all of it.

Every nerve ending responded to him with a recognition that bypassed her brain and went straight to her marrow. Her body arched into his hands before her mind could authorize the movement. Her fingers found the freckle on his shoulder, traced it, and the tracing carried the intimate certainty of a woman who had mapped this body in another version and remembered where every landmark was.

Every kiss landed like a brand. She made a sound on the hollow of her throat, half sob, half plea. When his teeth found the spot under her ear her whole body jerked and a broken "Ronan" slipped out before she could catch it.

He settled between her thighs with the steady, deliberate weight of a man whose patience was structural.

The first press of him against her was not entry. It was a threat and a promise. He dragged himself along her, once, twice, lining up with a control so tight the muscle in his jaw jumped.

She felt how hard he was holding back.

His forehead rested against hers. His breathing was ragged, his chest rising and falling in the accelerated rhythm of a body that had been waiting and was done and the done was a decision his self-control had voted against and lost.

"Look at me." His voice was barely a whisper. "I wish to see your eyes when I return to you."

She looked at him. His gold met her green. Then he pushed into her slowly. The first inch dragged a broken sound out of his throat. He tried to keep it quiet and failed.

The stretch stole her air and he did not rush.

"Yes. Take it. That’s it—open for me. You were built to do this. Don’t hide from it."

Her inner muscles clenched around him in a helpless pulse she couldn’t stop, and the noise that followed was wrecked.

With a final push, he bottomed out. A sound left him that was not language. Just home. For a moment, he stayed there, buried, as if the fit of her around him was enough to make up for lost time.

He was breathing like a man who was holding together through will alone and whose will was a wall that was developing cracks. Then he rolled his hips and ground deep, no withdrawal, just possession.

"You take me like you were made for this body," he said against her mouth. "Because you were."

The grind dragged a moan out of her that started in her chest and broke on his name. It was possession answering possession. Her wrists twisted in his hold just to feel that he wouldn’t let go.

He pulled out and thrust in again, harder.

The thrust tore a groan out of him that was loud and unrestrained. He drove in and the sound he made against her throat was raw and claiming, like he was the one being taken apart.

"Natalia." It was not tender. It was a man who had just remembered what his body was for.

Each stroke was a full retreat and a full return, deep enough that she felt him in her spine. By the time he was feeding himself into her in those measured claims, every exhale was wrecked.

His hand left her head, found her hip, and used it to pull her onto him as he drove forward, showing her body the rhythm she once knew until she broke.

He remembered. His body remembered. The rhythm built like a tide, patient and relentless, each wave pulling them deeper into each other until the boundaries between where he ended and she began dissolved into irrelevance.

Serena heard herself make sounds she’d never made. She felt pleasure climb through her body with the slow, devastating certainty of a wave that had been building since a balcony and a gate and a dragon carrying a dead man toward a sky that offered nothing back.

The pleasure and the grief occupied the same space, intertwined so completely that one fueled the other, and the fire between them was the fire of two souls who had been separated twice and reunited finally and weren’t going to waste a second of it.

His pace shifted. Deeper. More urgent. His jaw clenched and the tendons in his neck stood out and his gold eyes held hers with an intensity that burned through every version of herself she’d ever been.

He hooked her knee over his arm and changed the angle so every thrust hit the place that made her vision white out. His forehead stayed against hers. His voice dropped to a ruined command:

"Do not look away. I have waited too long to miss your face when you come apart on me." His voice was wrecked. The formal cadence was dissolving, stripped away by the same thing that strips away everything else.

"I am here." She heard her own voice break on the word. "I am here, Ronan. I am always here."

His hips snapped forward. The sound that left his chest was half groan and half grief and half the specific noise a man makes when the thing he’s been reaching for across ten thousand years is finally underneath him and his body refuses to hold anything back from it.

She shattered.

The orgasm tore through her with a violence that rewrote the room. Every muscle in her body locked and then released and then locked again, her back arching off the bed in a curve that pressed her chest against his, and the sound that came from her throat was ancient and broken and beautiful. It carried across both lives simultaneously, Natalia’s release and Serena’s, tangled into a single cry that held the full weight of every morning she’d reached across a bed and found emptiness.

He followed. His hips stuttered. A sound escaped him that Fin would never have made and Ronan had been holding for ten thousand years, deep and shattered and reverent. He buried himself to the hilt and stayed there, his body locking against hers, his face buried in her neck, breathing her name into her skin like he was writing it somewhere permanent.

His wolf surged.

Serena felt it happen through the matebond before she felt it in her body. The wolf that lived behind Finnick Shadowclaw’s ribs hit the walls of his control with a force that was tectonic. The surge was old. It carried the weight of a bond that predated wolf-kind, the first matebond the Moon Goddess had ever given, and the first matebond was finished being patient.

His mouth found the junction of her neck and shoulder.

His teeth sank in.

She screamed.

Her back bowed. Her fingers dug into his shoulders. The mark burned with a heat that lived beneath pain, beneath sensation, beneath every experience her body had a name for. It burned with reunion.

Then her own wolf surged.

Before Serena realized what she was doing, her fangs were in his neck.

His body went rigid. A sound left him that existed beneath human frequency, a vibration that traveled through his chest and into hers and set the matebond ringing like a bell struck by a hand that had been reaching for it across three lifetimes.

She held. Her jaw locked. Her fangs were seated in his flesh and his blood was on her tongue and the taste of it was home.
