"It’s a pleasure talking to you, Little Manman. Just a couple more things, and then I’ll be off."

"Go on, then," Xiao Man said casually, smiling as she gazed at the bright lights of the school gate.

"I had to make a promise to my grandfather to take over as the Wei Family heir. Want to know what it was?"

"I’m a little curious. What is it?"

Wei Zhenling’s expression turned serious. "I might be getting married before you guys. I have to start a family within a year. If I can’t find someone, I have to listen to my grandparents and marry whoever they pick for me."

Xiao Man’s eyes went wide. Once it sank in, she clapped her hands and burst out laughing. "Great! That’s great! Your grandpa’s idea is absolutely brilliant!"

Wei Zhenling glared at her, exasperated. "Little Manman! Why are you taking Gu Shaojun’s side? It’s bad enough you won’t help me, but now you’re gloating! You guys are so not cool!"

"Hahaha! We were always on the same side! This is an order from your grandpa, so how could we possibly help? We can’t! You should just accept your fate!" Xiao Man was grinning so wide her eyes crinkled shut. ’This guy is actually getting married! What a huge, wonderful surprise.’

Wei Zhenling was speechless, his brow furrowed. "I’m getting married and you’re laughing like that? Why are you so happy?"

"Of course I’m happy for you! You have no idea how worried Shaojun and I are about you..."

"Worried about me?" Wei Zhenling’s eyes suddenly lit up, his expression relaxing. "Now that’s more like it. Good friends should look out for and help each other. Little Manman, you have to help me with this whole marriage business. I’m counting on you!"

Xiao Man thought he meant helping with errands for the wedding and waved a hand dismissively. "No problem! I’ll be at your beck and call!"

"I won’t order you around, I couldn’t possibly. Just promise to help me with one thing, and I’ll be eternally grateful!"

"Hey, it’s for your wedding! Never mind one thing, I’d help with ten! I promise!"

"Little Manman, you’re the best!"

This time, it was Wei Zhenling’s turn to grin from ear to ear. "It’s actually very simple. You see, I know fewer than ten girls in total, and that includes people like you, Little Manman, who are already spoken for. The rest are either my cousins or the girls next door. None of them are suitable for me to marry. See how pathetic my situation is? And I haven’t liked any of the blind dates my mom set up for me, either. I have great faith in your judgment, Little Manman. You must have a lot of classmates and friends. Just find a good-natured girl, someone you get along with, and pick one out for me. Introduce us. How about it?"

Xiao Man froze, her mouth forming an ’O’. She quickly waved her hands. "No, no way! I can’t... That’s not the kind of help I was talking about!"

Wei Zhenling roared with laughter, turned, opened his car door, and got in. "You already promised! No backing out! Remember, my entire future rests on you, little sis-in-law!"

The car started and sped off with a WHOOSH. Xiao Man stomped her foot in frustration, but the car vanished in the blink of an eye.

Xiao Man could only trudge dejectedly through the school gate with a long face. She knew that even if she didn’t take it seriously, Wei Zhenling couldn’t really do anything to her. But still, she had been rash and careless, agreeing so readily. It was like she’d jumped into the pit Wei Zhenling had dug with her eyes wide open. The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became, and she couldn’t help but curse him out in her mind. Her good mood had been completely ruined by him.

’I’m willful and undisciplined myself, and I fly off the handle at the slightest disagreement. Where am I supposed to find a good-natured girl to introduce to him? And besides, who the hell knows what he even means by ’good-natured’?’

Xiao Man glanced at her watch and stopped thinking about the damned problem. Instead of heading back to her dorm, she ran straight for the traditional Chinese medicine research center.

The next day was Saturday. Xiao Man and her professor and classmates spent the whole morning puttering around with a huge pile of Chinese medicinal herbs. In the afternoon, she got ready to go home. She hadn’t seen her adorable little brothers in five days and really missed them. As she walked out of the school gate, she saw the car her grandmother had sent parked by the roadside. The driver opened the door, and Xiao Man got in.

As the car approached the house, the iron gate slowly swung open. She saw two adorable little tots standing neatly side-by-side, held back by a nanny and a guard to keep them from running and jumping around. But the two little ones insisted on raising one hand each, waving frantically at the car like a pair of lucky cats. Xiao Man was completely overwhelmed by their cuteness, her heart filled with emotion. She got out of the car and swept both little guys up into her arms, giving each a kiss. The three siblings giggled and horsed around. Grandma Tang, Grandma Hao, and Mrs. Hao came out to greet them. When they saw Xiao Man copying Tang Qingshan by holding both children at once, not caring that her dress was being wrinkled and pulled askew by the little ones, they all chided her, "That is so unladylike!"

Xiao Man laughed. "You want a fake lady? I can play the part. I can even keep it up for quite a while."

Her words immediately drew another round of affectionate scolding.
