Chapter 365: Chapter 129: Wang Ge’s Mother and the Priestess Mother Have Clashed, Urgent, Waiting Online
"Tonight, then," Lynch said, rising and walking toward the door. "The moonlight should be beautiful."
"I’m going to get some sleep. Come wake me before the activation ceremony begins."
Aus stood stunned for a long moment before rising to his feet. "Yes," he answered.
******
Lynch’s nap was surprisingly peaceful.
Even that hollow, exhausted feeling from having his soul sundered had been somewhat mended in his deep slumber.
An unknown amount of time passed.
"My lord."
A soft voice came from outside the door.
Lynch opened his eyes to see moonlight from the window spilling onto his bed.
He sat up, draped his spellrobe over his shoulders, and said calmly, "Come in."
Sea Song pushed the door open and entered.
Tonight, she wore a simple white priestess robe, the traditional garb of the Moon Priestesses of the Ancient Elf Race. Silver lunar patterns wound their way along the collar and cuffs, shimmering with a soft, faint light in the moonlight.
Her aura was different from before as well.
Though she was still the same gentle and serene Mermaid Princess, her features now carried... hm, an air of sanctity.
"My lord." She gave a slight curtsy, her voice soft as she reported, "The activation ceremony for the Moonlight Well is ready. Lord Aus sent me to fetch you."
"Then let’s go." Lynch nodded and headed out the door.
A flat-bottomed wooden boat was moored at the dock on the shore of Mirror Lake, where Aus was already waiting.
Lynch stepped onto the wooden boat. Sea Song followed behind him, leaping lightly onto the gunwale.
The wooden boat then began to carry them slowly toward the center of the lake.
In less than half an hour, the boat reached Lake Heart Island, which had been artificially expanded and reinforced.
A cluster of tall towers had been built on the island.
At the center of the cluster stood the main tower, the tallest of them all.
The main tower’s spire glowed with a soft halo under the moonlight. Its top was shaped like a full moon, with a Moonstone embedded in the center, though it had yet to be activated. The base was encircled by seven smaller, auxiliary towers, arranged like seven stars guarding the moon.
The wooden boat drew ashore, and Lynch stepped onto the stone steps of the man-made island.
Sea Song walked at his side, her simple white priestess robe fluttering gently in the night breeze.
She walked slowly.
But every step was perfectly steady.
Aus, Avril, and the other core members of Lakefront Town also disembarked and took their positions around the base of the Moonlight Well.
No one spoke.
Everyone was waiting.
At a signal from Lynch, Sea Song walked to the center of the tower’s base, directly beneath the Moonstone.
She raised her head and gazed at the night sky.
The moonlight tonight was beautiful.
There were no clouds, no fog, not even the slightest breeze.
Only a nearly full, bright moon hung high in the center of the heavens.
Sea Song closed her eyes and began to chant.
It was a language Lynch had never heard before.
It was not the Deep Sea song of the Merfolk Race, nor the ancient tongue of the Elf Race, nor any known mortal language.
The sound was ethereal and distant, as if imbued with a coolness and compassion tempered by moonlight itself.
It was the divine tongue, passed down through generations of Moon Priestesses, used exclusively to communicate with the Lady of the Moon.
As she chanted, the Moonstone began to glow.
At first, it was just a faint glimmer.
But as Sea Song continued her chant, the light grew stronger and stronger until, like a string plucked by an invisible finger, it began to resonate with the bright moon in the night sky.
The seven auxiliary towers encircling the main spire also lit up one by one.
One, two, three...
Seven columns of silver-white light shot toward the heavens, converging and merging in the night sky. They finally coalesced into a single, pure, flawless beam of moonlight that lanced straight toward the Moonstone at the tower’s peak.
HUMMM—
A resonant hum, like the long toll of an ancient bell, emanated from deep within the tower’s core and rippled out across the night sky.
The sound was not oppressive.
It simply passed gently through the chest of everyone present, through every inch of soil in Lakefront Town, and through every drop of water in Mirror Lake.
Dragon Flame seemed to sense something. It poked its head out of a window on the second floor of the garrison, let out a "WOOF WOOF," and wagged its tail like a tiny pinwheel.
Esther’s crystal coffin lid was thrown open. The little Vampire flapped her bat-like wings and hovered in midair, her scarlet eyes wide as she stared at the pillar of light erupting from the center of the lake.
She didn’t particularly like moonlight.
But the moonlight tonight... it didn’t seem so bad.
The surface of Mirror Lake began to ripple.
At the spire of the Moonlight Well, the Moonstone had transformed into a miniature, brilliant moon.
This was no metaphor, no figure of speech.
It *was* a moon.
The boundless moonlight poured down from the heavens as if guided by an invisible hand. It converged into countless silver threads that wound, interwove, and surged, ultimately vanishing into the tower’s core.
Sea Song remained in her posture, gazing at the moon, her simple white priestess robe stirring as if in a nonexistent wind.
Suddenly, the aura around her changed completely.
Specks of moonlight gathered in her eyes, turning her pupils a luminous silver.
She slowly turned to look at Lynch.
She said nothing.
But a voice echoed clearly in Lynch’s mind. "...Thank you."
Lynch froze for a second.
He never expected the Moon Priestess, who had always disdained him for his slyness, would actually thank him of her own accord.
However, Lynch quickly collected himself and replied with the utmost reverence, ’You are too kind, Priestess Mother. It is my good fortune to be of some small service to you.’
"Sea Song"—no, the Moon Priestess, Elune’s Song: Seren Hill—heard this, and her eyelid twitched almost imperceptibly.
She was still not quite used to this boy calling her "Priestess Mother" so freely, but she didn’t correct him. Her voice simply continued to echo in his mind. "With this Moonlight Well, I will at least no longer be lost to an endless eternity... In return, I will guard the area under this Moonlight Well’s protection for you."
’An unexpected bonus?’
Lynch was overjoyed and hurriedly began thanking "Priestess Mother" profusely once more.
This time, the Moon Priestess ignored him, instead gazing quietly at the full moon.
’Great Elune,’
she chanted silently in her heart.
’Great Lady in White.’
’Are you truly... gone?’
The moonlight was silent. The heavens were silent.
’Why...’
Her eyelashes trembled. Deep within her consciousness, a question suppressed for millennia finally broke its seal, transforming into a silent, trembling whisper. ’Why... why did you just stand by and watch... as my Elf Race... marched toward extinction?’
The moonlight over the lake remained gentle.
But no one answered her.
There had been no answer thousands of years ago.
And there was none now, thousands of years later.
Lynch stood behind her, silently watching the slender figure bathed in the moon’s glow.
He couldn’t hear the Moon Priestess’s inner thoughts.
But he could feel the sorrow emanating from the depths of her soul—a grief that could not be dispelled.
Even Lynch found himself infected by this wave of sorrow.
But in the next instant, the sorrow in his heart was swept clean away.
Because in that same instant, a sigil that had lain dormant deep within his soul for a very long time suddenly stirred.
"Mmm~"
A lazy, aristocratic woman’s voice suddenly echoed languidly in the depths of Lynch’s consciousness.
’It seems... I’ve caught a whiff of a rather extraordinary aura~’
Lynch’s pupils contracted sharply.
’No way~?’
His thoughts practically ground to a halt as alarms blared in his mind.
’No way, no way, no way!!??’
’Mother Elegy is here, too!?’
’This... this is... Mother Elegy, of all the times you could have shown up, you had to pick right when I’m attending to Priestess Mother.’
’What, what am I supposed to do?’
’My two mothers are about to meet... What do I do?’
’This is an emergency!’
’Need advice ASAP!’
