Chapter 305: Chapter 120: Mom, It’s Time to Drop the Gold Coins

"A test?!"

Lynch peeked out from behind the Corpse Demon, his voice trembling. "You call that a test? You were telling me to sacrifice a living, breathing companion! That’s the kind of shit evil Abyssal Demons do. You’re a legendary Moon Priestess, and you test people like *that*?!"

He looked shocked and enraged, as if his entire worldview had just been shattered.

But deep down, he was secretly amused.

’Old witch, oh old witch... You finally couldn’t hold back and revealed yourself!’

In truth, Lynch had sensed something was off that night in the backyard when Sea Song returned from inspecting the Teleportation Gate components.

He and Sea Song had spent so much time together, day in and day out, that he was naturally very familiar with the look in her eyes, her general aura, and all her little habits.

That night, Sea Song had clearly been a little off right from the start.

That was why he had deliberately, yet casually, brought up the "Song of Elune," called her an old witch, and even had her "help wipe his mouth."

His actions—*that* was a real test.

Sea Song wouldn’t have had any particular reaction to his words, but Elune’s Song: Seren Hill would naturally be provoked, revealing a crack in her facade.

So, he had been almost certain right then and there that Sea Song was possessed.

Furthermore, the one possessing her was, in all likelihood, that terrifying entity from the ruins—the Moon Priestess.

The only problem was, Lynch didn’t know what her goal was, and he didn’t dare to expose her directly.

So, for the next few days, Lynch had been observing in secret.

And he discovered that the Moon Priestess didn’t seem to have any malicious intent. Instead, she was the one doing the observing—watching him, watching Lakefront Town... as if she were evaluating something.

Her behavior had led Lynch to form a few secret theories about her motives.

Later, with the arrival of the scholars, he confirmed that it was indeed the "Song of Elune" and learned about her life and personality, which led to this latest, targeted move.

In Lynch’s opinion, this ancient Legend’s "talent for acting" was truly nothing special.

Her emotions were direct and unfiltered. Her thoughts, while profound, lacked finesse. Her every move carried a kind of ancient, aristocratic... hmm, one could call it "naivete," or perhaps "arrogance."

No wonder the mighty Elf civilization of the past had suffered such a devastating blow during the invasion from the Abyss.

In the conflicts between civilizations, it’s often a no-holds-barred affair. Simply having immense power and a noble character isn’t enough.

After all, that pack of brutes, the Abyssal Demons, has no morals or scruples to speak of.

But inner complaints aside, Lynch kept his expression perfectly under control. He maintained the look of someone who had been deceived and hurt, his gaze toward the Moon Priestess tinged with a mixture of belief and doubt.

Seeing Lynch’s wary eyes, the Moon Priestess felt an even deeper sense of resignation.

It was true. In his eyes, her method of testing was likely no different from pure evil.

’I have only myself to blame. I was emotionally overwhelmed at the time and lost control. My actions were indeed ill-considered.’

She fell silent for a moment, then slowly raised a hand. The silver light in her eyes grew solemn and grave.

"I, Elune’s Song: Seren Hill, swear in the name of the Moon Goddess Elune, by my remnant soul and the glory of my past."

Her voice carried a kind of ancient, beautiful cadence, making it sound exceptionally solemn.

"I bear no malice toward you, Lynch Blackwood, nor to the people of Lakefront Town. I have no intention of harming Sea Song Xiyin. My previous words were, indeed, an improper test. If I violate this oath, may the moonlight forsake me, and may my spirit disintegrate into eternal darkness."

An oath sworn by a Moon Priestess in the name of the Moon Goddess Elune was akin to a contract witnessed by the goddess herself, carrying an ancient and sacred binding power.

’Damn,’ Lynch thought to himself. He hadn’t expected this ancient Legend to be so decisive, swearing directly on her faith and the very core of her soul.

This carried far more weight and was much more reliable than any mere words or explanations.

This sincerity... or rather, her desperate need to communicate, was even stronger than he had anticipated.

At this point, he couldn’t overdo the act.

He waved his hand, signaling the Corpse Demon and the other Undead to fall back. He then straightened his clothes, stepped out from the protective circle of Undead, and placed his right hand over his chest. He gave a slight bow to the Song of Elune, his face a mask of sincerity and apology.

"My deepest apologies, esteemed Song of Elune."

"Please forgive my earlier rudeness and agitation. It’s just... the demand to ’sacrifice a companion’ touched upon a deeply held principle of mine, and I momentarily lost control of my emotions. I spoke offensively just now, and I hope you can forgive my transgression."

"Now, I believe you are sincere in your desire to talk. A moment ago, I was indeed a bit... ah, let’s say I had a stress reaction."

The Moon Priestess watched Lynch, who had just seamlessly transformed from a "street ruffian" into a "well-mannered young gentleman," and the last vestiges of her anger dissipated.

In its place, a sense of bewildered amusement began to bubble up.

’This boy changes his tune faster than one can flip a page,’ she thought. ’But this adaptability—this ability to yield when necessary and quit while he’s ahead—is truly remarkable.’

She gave a slight nod, and her cool, clear voice softened. "It is of no consequence. In this matter... I too was inconsiderate."

She paused, then added, "To show my sincerity, and to make up for the distress I caused the child, Sea Song Xiyin... if she is willing, I will formally accept her as my disciple and pass on to her the complete legacy of my Moon Priestess lineage."

At these words, Lynch’s heart leaped with joy.
