Surprise flickered in Jiang Li’s eyes. She hadn’t expected Shen Yanzhi to say something like this in front of all their friends and family. It was surprisingly touching.

After all, so many men took it for granted that women have children, as if it were simply their duty.

Far from thanking them, many even beat their wives during pregnancy to assert their authority.

"Of course, I’m also very grateful to our parents for their devoted care of Shen Shiyu, and to everyone here for your love and support for him."

"A child is the continuation of life, the fruit of love, and the future of a family. I don’t ask that he become wealthy or powerful—I only hope he grows up healthy, happy, and safe."

When he finished, he looked at Shen Shiyu, who was in Jiang Li’s arms. The baby’s eyes were darting all over the place, a constant smile on his face.

The corners of Shen Yanzhi’s mouth lifted slightly as his gaze swept over the crowd. "We’ve prepared a humble banquet for you all today. I wish our elders long life and good health, and I wish all our friends and family success in everything you do. Please, eat, drink, and enjoy yourselves."

Amidst a round of applause, the couple stepped down from the stage. Jiang Manshu naturally took Shen Shiyu from Jiang Li’s arms. "Xiao Li, go get something to eat."

Jiang Li asked, a bit sheepishly, "What about you two?"

Jiang Manshu said casually, "Don’t worry about it. I’ll eat after your mother finishes."

This had become an unspoken agreement between her and Jing Shiyun.

Shen Shiyu was getting more and more rambunctious, so holding him while trying to eat was simply impossible.

If they put him in his stroller, he’d throw a fit. The only solution was for someone to hold him until they could trade off.

To save time, Jiang Li finished her food in just a few bites. But when Jiang Manshu saw this, her face fell. "Look how skinny you are. I’m afraid a strong gust of wind will blow you away. Hurry and eat some more. Don’t starve yourself just to lose weight."

Jiang Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "That’s really not it."

She had no idea why, but ever since having the baby, the weight had just been falling off.

The thing was, she had eaten plenty at the postpartum recovery center, even indulging in fried foods from time to time.

But for some reason, she just couldn’t put on any weight. There was nothing she could do about it.

She spread her hands helplessly. "I ate so much at the postpartum center, I just don’t know why I’m not gaining weight."

Jiang Manshu huffed. "I don’t care about that. You barely had two bites just now."

Jiang Li raised her hands in surrender. "Fine, I’ll go back and eat some more."

In her haste to relieve Jiang Manshu so she could eat, Jiang Li had indeed only eaten until she was about half-full.

Seeing how insistent Jiang Manshu was, she had no choice but to go back and get another bowl of rice.

As for Jing Shiyun, all this time caring for the baby had trained her to eat with incredible speed.

By the time Jiang Li sat back down, Jing Shiyun had already put down her bowl and chopsticks and gotten up to switch with Jiang Manshu.

After eating, Jiang Li found Sheng Mingyue and got straight to the point. "Yuyu, I want to start a high-end clothing brand that uses only Chinese fabrics and craftsmanship. Can you draft a proposal for me?"

Sheng Mingyue nodded. "Of course."

"But I’ll need two hours."

’Two hours? She wouldn’t have minded if it took twenty days.’

’After all, this wasn’t just talk. A single misstep could have huge repercussions. Plus, it would be best to get government backing to effectively avoid the risk of being targeted by competitors.’

’That’s why this was a job only Sheng Mingyue could handle.’

Jiang Li patted Sheng Mingyue’s shoulder. "Okay, no problem. Just send the proposal to my WeChat when you’re done."

Just as she was about to leave, she received a call from Liu Qian. "Sister Jiang, a TV station wants to interview you. Should I turn them down?"

Jiang Li was confused. "Why on earth would they want to interview me?"

Liu Qian explained, "It’s like this. A while back, when the floods hit Zengdu, our foundation contributed money, aid, and supplies. The disaster is over now, and the foundation has been trending online, so I guess that’s why they want to interview you."

It was only then that Jiang Li remembered. She had still been in her postpartum confinement when Liu Qian told her about the floods. She had simply instructed the foundation to donate fifty billion and hadn’t thought about it since.

’I just didn’t expect there to be a follow-up.’

However, Jiang Li still decided to decline. "Let’s skip the interview."

’She had no desire to be a public figure, and there wasn’t much to interview her about anyway. The TV station was only approaching her now for the ratings.’

Jiang Li’s answer was what Liu Qian had expected, but it was the kind of thing she had to ask about before making a decision.

"Alright, I’ll turn them down for you then."

Jiang Li hummed in agreement. Then, a thought struck her and she asked, "I remember I asked you to arrange for road construction in some rural villages. How’s that coming along?"
