Chapter 43: The Weeping Hollows

Leon stood up, shedding the cotton robe. With a series of mental commands, the Fanghide Battleplate materialized over his black tunic, followed by the heavy, light-absorbing fabric of the Sovereign’s Mantle. He strapped the Bloodfang Edge to his hip and gripped the Gold-Rank Stormcaller’s Conduit in his left hand.

Leon left the hotel without a backward glance, slipping out of the Eastern Checkpoint and bypassing the crowded merchant districts entirely using the shadows of the mantle.

He headed southeast. Past the dried riverbed, past the marshlands, past the ruined valley where the Underworld Altar had once stood. He walked for hours, pushing his 40 Agility to cover a massive amount of ground, leaving the populated, heavily-farmed beginner zones far behind.

By late afternoon, the environment began to shift.

The standard, towering pines and oaks of the outer forest slowly gave way to an endless expanse of massive weeping willows. Their long, sweeping vines hung like pale green curtains from the canopy, obscuring the light and creating a suffocating, maze-like atmosphere. The air here was thick with humidity and the heavy, sweet scent of pollen and decaying wood.

Ding!

[Zone Entered: The Weeping Hollows]

[Warning: Open Dungeon Detected.]

[Recommended Level: 30-35]

Leon smirked. An open dungeon. Unlike the instanced Underworld Realm, this was a naturally occurring high-level zone integrated seamlessly into the world map. No loading screens, no glowing altars. Just a sheer, vertical spike in difficulty for anyone unlucky enough to wander into the wrong part of the woods.

"Perfect," Leon whispered.

The vines hanging from the nearest tree suddenly snapped taut like coiled springs.

[Monster Detected: Willow Sentinel (x4)]

[Level: 32]

[Type: Plant Construct]

[Innate Talent: Photosynthetic Regeneration]

Four massive figures detached themselves from the trunks of the trees. They were humanoids formed entirely of twisted bark, thorny vines, and glowing green sap, standing over eight feet tall.

They didn’t roar. They simply lunged, their arms extending into whip-like tendrils tipped with jagged wooden spikes.

"Wraith-Step," Leon commanded.

The world around him inverted into a spectrum of grayscale shadows. He stepped into the darkness beneath a willow tree and instantaneously materialized directly behind the nearest Sentinel. The Platinum-tier skill was flawless, bypassing the physical space between them in zero point zero seconds.

Leon brought Bloodfang Edge down in a brutal arc.

Slash!

The silver blade bit deeply into the dense, hardened bark of the Sentinel’s shoulder.

Ding!

[Bloodfang Edge: Severance Effect triggered!]

A flash of pitch-black energy erupted from the wound. The true-damage effect completely bypassed the physical hardness of the bark and the creature’s massive health pool, striking the animated core of the monster directly.

The Level 32 Sentinel let out a hollow, wooden shriek and collapsed into a pile of dead, splintered logs instantly.

Ding!

[You have killed "Willow Sentinel (Level 32)" and gained 3,200 experience points.]

The other three Sentinels whipped around, their tendrils lashing through the air toward Leon.

"Domain of the Dead," Leon said coldly.

A wave of freezing, necrotic energy blasted outward from his body, turning the grass beneath his feet instantly black. The aura expanded in a thirty-foot radius, swallowing the three remaining constructs.

Ding!

[Domain of the Dead active.]

[Enemy attributes reduced by 15%. Enemy passive regeneration severely dampened.]

The Sentinels visibly staggered as the necrotic suppression washed over them. Their Photosynthetic Regeneration, a talent that normally allowed them to heal physical damage instantly from the ambient sunlight, was completely choked out by the death aura.

Leon didn’t hesitate. He raised Stormcaller’s Conduit.

"Arcane Requiem!"

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Three massive bolts of green poison, black decay, and erratic blue lightning tore through the dense forest. The bolts slammed into the suppressed Sentinels, the decay immediately catching onto their wooden bodies and rapidly rotting them from the inside out. The lightning ignited the sap in their veins, turning them into screaming pillars of corrupted fire.

Ding!

[Arcane Requiem: Leeching Effect triggered.]

[HP drained: 180. Restored to user.]

Leon allowed the Domain of the Dead to fade, cutting the continuous mana drain. He let out a slow breath, shaking the residual sap from the blade of his sword.

"Level 32," Leon noted, stepping over the burning logs. "Barely a warm-up."

For the next four hours, Leon carved a path of absolute destruction through the Weeping Hollows.

He fought packs of Level 33 Thorn-Stalkers, massive wolf-like creatures made of briar and root, using Gorgon’s Decree to petrify their legs before shattering them with Verlimon’s Judgment. He fought a Level 34 Elder Treant, a massive walking tree that tried to crush him beneath boulders. Leon simply activated Obsidian Carapace, face-tanked the boulder, and used Wraith-Step to teleport directly onto the Treant’s canopy, detonating a point-blank Arcane Requiem directly into its brain.

His EXP bar was climbing at a staggering rate, and the massive influx of high-level crafting materials and Eternal Coins flowing into his inventory was intoxicating.

But as he pushed deeper into the open dungeon, the environment began to change once more.

The dense, suffocating curtain of weeping willow vines slowly began to thin, giving way to an eerie, unnatural clearing. The ground here wasn’t covered in dead leaves or mud; it was blanketed in a lush, impossibly green carpet of soft moss. In the center of the clearing, surrounded by a ring of ancient, towering white-barked trees, was a pool of glowing, crystalline water.

A brilliant, ethereal light pulsed from the center of the pool, illuminating the clearing with a soft, hypnotic radiance.

Leon stopped at the edge of the tree line, his eyes narrowing. The air here was heavy with a sweet, intoxicating perfume that made his head swim for a fraction of a second before Perfect Body flushed the airborne toxin from his system.

He stepped out of the shadows.

Lying on the soft moss beside the glowing pool was a woman.

She was breathtakingly beautiful. Her skin was a pale, flawless olive, and long, cascading hair the color of spun gold draped over her shoulders, pooling on the grass around her. And she was completely, entirely naked.

She lay on her side, her back arched gracefully, showcasing lush, sweeping curves that seemed almost mathematically engineered to arrest the human eye.

Leon stopped dead in his tracks.

For exactly two seconds, the pragmatic, battle-hardened survivor inside him was violently overridden by the sheer, unfiltered reaction of a healthy twenty-four-year-old male. His heart rate spiked. His eyes locked onto the flawless expanse of her skin, the gentle swell of her hips, the inviting, vulnerable way she was resting by the water. A heavy, immediate wave of lust washed over him, hot and irrational, pulling him forward like a magnet.

He took one step toward her.

Then, two things happened simultaneously.

Ding!

[Hostile Effect Resisted!]

[Monarch’s Will has nullified a high-tier pheromone-based charm manipulation!]

And his Origin Eyes flared with a blinding golden light.

The illusion of vulnerable perfection shattered. Through the lens of his SSS-Rank perception, the beautiful, naked woman was a blazing epicenter of dense, suffocating life-element mana. The soft moss she was resting on wasn’t grass; it was thousands of microscopic, carnivorous vines waiting to snap shut around anything that stepped close.

Leon instantly froze, his mind snapping back into perfect, ice-cold clarity. The lust vanished, replaced by the adrenaline of mortal danger.

"Clever," Leon whispered, gripping the hilt of Bloodfang Edge tightly. "But I’ve had my fill of naked women in hot springs for one week."

The woman’s eyes snapped open.
