Chapter 383 - 237: Talent
Chapter 383: Chapter 237: Talent
"Do you know the way to the Treasure Pavilion?"
Su Xing asked. The young woman beside him heard his words and quickly nodded, saying,
"Of course I do. But you can’t get close to it without authorization."
The young woman reminded him.
"Don’t worry."
After receiving Su Xing’s confident reply, the young woman didn’t doubt him any longer. She immediately set off in a certain direction, and soon, Su Xing arrived before a massive pavilion.
From a distance, the pavilion appeared to be seven or eight stories high. For the construction techniques of ancient times, this was an incredibly exaggerated height.
But beyond its height, what truly drew Su Xing’s gaze was what seemed to be a layer of golden energy surrounding the pavilion. The aura of this energy layer was faint and subtle—almost unnoticeable without careful observation—but it firmly blocked their path.
"Elder Su, this is the place. I don’t have permission, so I can only let you go in by yourself."
She said, a hint of regret in her voice.
Usually, only those who had performed great deeds could enter the Treasure Pavilion. This was because the Treasure Pavilion and the Scripture Pavilion were practically the two core foundations of Dragon Gate. Even the Dragon-locking Pillar was originally stored in the Treasure Pavilion; it had only been taken out for the incident at Desperate Gorge.
Therefore, there wasn’t a single person in Dragon Gate who didn’t want to enter these two places. For Su Xing to get the chance as soon as he arrived—it was impossible not to be envious.
But they didn’t feel a trace of jealousy. Although many couldn’t go to Desperate Gorge due to a lack of strength, quite a few from Dragon Gate had. One only had to ask around to learn of Su Xing’s incredible combat record.
Against someone of insufficient strength, or even someone slightly stronger than yourself, jealousy might still serve a purpose. But against someone countless times more powerful, jealousy was nothing more than the fantasy of the powerless.
It was utterly useless.
"Alright, thank you for your trouble."
Su Xing nodded. Unconsciously, he had begun to adopt the demeanor of an elder. Although Su Xing himself felt he hadn’t changed, being called "Elder" by so many people wherever he went had subtly influenced his mindset and actions.
It caused Su Xing to take on a somewhat world-weary air, which looked a little strange when paired with his young face. Of course, the people who called him "Elder" didn’t find it strange at all.
"I-It’s nothing."
Seeing Su Xing’s eyes glance at her for a moment before returning to the light barrier, the young woman knew her fated connection with this Elder Su had come to an end. She performed a courtesy salute, turned, and left.
...
Once the young woman was completely gone, Su Xing finally took out the key from his sleeve. His gaze fell upon the light barrier as he muttered, ’Could it be as simple as sticking the key in?’
’Probably,’ he thought. ’Since Yi Changhao called this a key, it must be the key to this light barrier.’ With that in mind, Su Xing extended the key and inserted it into the barrier before him. Mimicking the motion of unlocking a door, he gave it a gentle twist to the left.
A "CLICK" was heard, as if a real lock had been turned. The light barrier in front of him dissipated at a speed visible to the naked eye.
It soon vanished completely.
In truth, Su Xing probably could have forced his way through without issue, but he was a guest of Dragon Gate, and he had the key. There was no need to destroy someone else’s property.
Seeing the light barrier disappear, Su Xing stepped forward and walked through the space where it had been. As if sensing his entry, the light barrier rapidly reformed at a visible speed, sealing Su Xing firmly inside.
...
Su Xing glanced back at it, then walked straight ahead. He soon reached the front of the pavilion. The door was made of some kind of wood and seemed to be carved with numerous dragons.
"Someone’s here?"
A voice suddenly came from inside. Immediately after, the door was pushed open, revealing a burly man drenched in sweat. A white towel was draped over his shoulder, and his entire body was covered in muscle.
"And you are?"
Su Xing asked, looking at him.
"Heh, little guy. You must be the Su Xing the Sect Leader mentioned. If you want to pick a magic weapon, come on in with me."
After speaking, the man turned and headed inside. Su Xing followed him in. What greeted his eyes were weapons, one after another. However, the energy they emanated was very faint; they probably weren’t too powerful.
"It’s so hot."
Su Xing said suddenly.
The weather in the Dragon Gate Secret Realm was generally stable, a common trait of a Secret Realm, so Su Xing had never felt changes in temperature like cold or heat. But the moment he entered the Treasure Pavilion, he was hit by a wave of intense heat.
This wasn’t the heat of the sun. It was more like the scorching heat of a blazing fire right in your face. This came as quite a surprise to Su Xing.
"Hot?"
"I’ve lived here so long I’m used to it."
"You’ve always lived here?"
Su Xing glanced at the burly man. At first, Su Xing had almost thought the man was just working out here and had happened to run into him. But that line of thinking was clearly unreasonable. As a result, Su Xing began to have some suspicions about him.
"Haha, that’s right."
The burly man said with a laugh, "Since my master died, I’ve probably been here for nearly seven hundred years."
...
The number that came out of the burly man’s mouth made Su Xing’s brow twitch. Seven hundred years was no small number. And that was just since his master’s death. For all he knew, this man might have already lived for over a thousand years.
