Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Chapter 403: Gratitude, Regret

’His Nuanyue is just that smart,’ he thought. ’No matter who it is, as long as they spend time with her, they’ll gradually grow to like her.’

However, that was only Hua Yusen’s opinion; not everyone felt the same.

People like Guo Dongmei, Wang Yuan, and Wu Qiaoqiao would probably never think that way.

During the meal, Hua Zhiqiang had drinks with his two sons. Zhao Nuanyue also had some fruit wine, and even Little Red Carp drank some juice to celebrate with her sister.

After eating, they rested for a moment.

The more Feng Wanru looked at Zhao Nuanyue, the happier she became. She said with a smile, "Nuanyue, I know Nuanyang is still young and Little Red Carp is little. They can’t be without you, and you can’t bear to leave them. If I had you all move in here, first, it’s very far from your workplaces, and second, the three of you siblings wouldn’t be used to it. So, let Yusen move in with you. It happens to be closer to Elder Gu, and it will be more convenient for Yusen to get to work."

"Huh?" Zhao Nuanyue was stunned by Feng Wanru’s words, her mouth falling slightly open. She had originally thought Hua Yusen would have to go to great lengths to get his wish of moving into their home by Qingya Lake.

Hua Yusen hadn’t even said anything, nor had she. Instead, it was Feng Wanru who brought it up.

"What’s wrong?" Feng Wanru thought Zhao Nuanyue had other ideas. "If you don’t agree, you can move over here anytime. You can live at whichever place you prefer."

Zhao Nuanyue shook her head, her eyes turning red. Then, under everyone’s gaze, she reached out and hugged her mother-in-law. Perhaps Feng Wanru was eager to hold a grandson or granddaughter, or perhaps she had other motives, but it was exactly what Zhao Nuanyue had wished for in her heart.

Zhao Nuanyue was grateful that Feng Wanru had been the one to suggest it.

"Thank you, Mom!" Zhao Nuanyue said, her words full of sincerity. She was genuinely thankful for Feng Wanru’s blessing.

Feng Wanru was taken aback. She hadn’t expected her daughter-in-law to be so warm. Aside from her own daughter hugging her when she left, only Zhao Nuanyue had ever embraced her with such an intimate gesture.

Seeing Zhao Nuanyue choking up a bit, Feng Wanru patted her back and said, "No need to thank me. But, I have a condition. Once you’re pregnant, you can’t live over there anymore. I wouldn’t be able to rest easy."

"Okay, I’ll take good care of myself." Zhao Nuanyue nodded. Once she was pregnant, she certainly couldn’t live there anymore.

’In my past life, I had no children. Without an elder to guide me, I knew nothing about pregnancy. I wouldn’t have been able to rest easy either.’

Hua Zhiqiang was having tea with his two sons. Seeing his wife and daughter-in-law getting along so well, he finally relaxed a little. His daughter-in-law, Zhao Nuanyue, despite her humble family background, was excellent in her conduct and carried herself with grace and propriety.

"Alright, stop crying. Come with me to pack Yusen’s things. Let them chat and hang out down here," Feng Wanru said with a laugh, ready to "kick her son out" today.

Zhao Nuanyue nodded and followed her mother-in-law upstairs to Hua Yusen’s room.

Hua Yusen’s room had actually already been tidied up and decorated festively. It had been prepared as the marital room for Hua Yusen and Zhao Nuanyue, but it hadn’t been used.

In Hua Yusen’s closet, there weren’t just his clothes, but also some loungewear that Feng Wanru had prepared for Zhao Nuanyue. Now that Hua Yusen was moving over to her place, he would take half of his wearable clothes with him.

The clothes for the two of them filled two large bags.

A little after eight o’clock, Hua Yusen said goodbye to his parents. "Thanks, Mom!"

"Don’t thank me. As long as you two live well and give me a little grandson or granddaughter soon, that’s better than anything." Feng Wanru kept urging them. She was very anxious, wishing a baby would pop out of Zhao Nuanyue’s belly right then and there.

"Hehe, I’ll work hard," Hua Yusen said with a hearty laugh, then looked at his younger brother. "Yu Lin, you’re the only one left at home now. Please take good care of Mom and Dad!"

"Don’t worry, Big Brother. I’ll take good care of our parents." Hua Yulin fought back the bitterness in his heart and put on a cheerful, smiling face. "It’s getting late. Be careful on the road."

Hua Yusen patted his brother’s shoulder twice, then left with Zhao Nuanyue, Zhao Nuan Yang, and Little Red Carp, getting into the car.

Because Little Red Carp was leaving, Hei Hu chased after them for a long way.

Hua Yulin actually envied Hei Hu for being able to chase after them so openly. But he couldn’t. He could only stand in place, watching the car get further and further away. He both wished Zhao Nuanyue and his brother would live at the Huajia Old Mansion so he could see her every day, and feared that if they lived there, he wouldn’t be able to control the longing in his heart.

’It’s good that Big Brother is moving in with Sister-in-law now.’

’At least the distance will be a barrier. I can force myself not to go over, and then I won’t see her. My heart won’t be in such frequent turmoil.’

Seeing her second son hadn’t come back inside, Feng Wanru urged, "Yu Lin, your big brother has already left, stop looking. Your sister-in-law’s courtyard is right in Jincheng City; it’s not that far. If you miss your brother, you can go visit him. Besides, your brother and sister-in-law will come back often."

"Oh! I’m going to have a smoke, I’ll be right back," Hua Yulin said softly, but he didn’t turn around. He didn’t want his mother to see the disappointment on his face.

’Actually, I don’t miss my brother. I want to see... I want to see Zhao Nuanyue...’

’But she’s my sister-in-law, a woman who will forever be on a parallel line to me. Even if I want to see her, I have to suppress my true feelings and stop myself.’

"Sigh, you’re just like your father, always smoking. It’s not good for you." Feng Wanru frowned. But then she thought about how her son was grown now, and some things couldn’t be controlled just because she wanted to. "Well, just smoke one and come in quickly. Don’t smoke too much. Never mind the smell, it’s hard to quit once you get addicted!"

"I know, Mom! Just one." Hua Yulin nodded. After his mother went inside, he sat down on the cool steps by the door, the large Hei Hu squatting beside him.

The small cherry of the cigarette glowed and faded in the dark, obscuring Hua Yulin’s expression.

’If only it were possible, I wish I had met such a wonderful woman sooner!’

’If only it were possible, I too would want to be with such a woman forever, to grow old together!’

However, the world is not full of "if onlys." Hua Yulin was left with a regret in his heart that he could tell no one. Perhaps only Hei Hu, by his side, could understand his feelings.

Leaving the Huajia Old Mansion with Zhao Nuanyue, Hua Yusen was joyful and filled with happiness.

Zhao Nuanyue was also very happy and felt blessed. Her mother-in-law hadn’t given her a hard time.

Only the lovely and observant Little Red Carp saw Hua Yulin’s deeply affectionate eyes in the car’s rearview mirror.

’Sigh, that Hua Yulin isn’t so bad, really. It’s just that the person my sister, Zhao Nuanyue, loves isn’t him. So all his affection can only flow away like a river of spring water flowing east.’
