Su Xiaomeng went to the school, and all those who had been watching her play from the sidelines quickly changed their tune once the matter had a clear result. Su Xiaomeng was not surprised at all by their behavior.

As she entered the office, the aroma of coffee greeted her. Sharing an office with a professor who knows how to enjoy life is actually quite wonderful.

"Hey, good morning, Professor Chi!"

Chi Lun was leaning back in his chair, legs crossed, holding a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee.

"Teacher Su, check the time. It’s almost eleven; is this early? Coming to work at this hour really means you’re just here for lunch."

"Sorry, sorry. My daughter wasn’t feeling well today, so I stayed at home a bit longer."

Su Xiaomeng hurriedly explained.

Though Chi Lun was someone without a family, he understood, even if he couldn’t truly empathize, and didn’t press further. He just handed over the urgent work to Su Xiaomeng.

"Ah, Professor Chi, do you have class tomorrow afternoon?"

"Tomorrow afternoon... Let me check. No, I don’t."

Su Xiaomeng quickly clasped her hands together, stars shining in her eyes as she looked at Chi Lun, "Professor Chi..."

"..." Chi Lun instantly suspected there wasn’t any good news.

"Cover my class, please."

"No."

"Why do you reject without even thinking? Previously, when you didn’t want to teach, didn’t I cover your class?"

Su Xiaomeng hurriedly dug up old accounts.

Chi Lun put down the coffee cup, "What are you planning to do?"

"I know a little boy who lost his mom very early; his dad never remarried. Now they have a parent-child event in kindergarten, and he wants me to accompany him."

"..."

Chi Lun raised his eyebrows, a hint of surprise in his eyes.

"I’m asking you, Professor Chi, you’re such a good person..."

"You have two kids yourself, yet you go to be another child’s mom?"

"Not being a mom! Don’t say that. I just feel I have a bond with that child. He’s a bit unruly but seems to like me. He even called specifically to ask me for this favor. I can’t just say no to a five-year-old, can I..."

"Teacher Su, you’re indeed so compassionate."

Chi Lun smiled slightly.

Su Xiaomeng gave him a sideways glance with a stern expression, "Don’t be sarcastic. I know you’re mocking me. Just call it excess sympathy, cheap compassion, okay?"

"I just want to know, does the big boss know?" Chi Lun kept his eyes fixed on Su Xiaomeng. Even as he took a sip of coffee, his gaze didn’t leave her face; he was gauging her reaction.

"I’ll talk to him later. I need to confirm you can cover my class first, so I can promise that little guy, then explain it to Shixiu."

Su Xiaomeng spoke naturally, while Chi Lun raised an eyebrow, looking at her with meaningful intent,

"From your earlier words, if I agree to cover your class, you’ll promise that little guy, and then... just inform your husband?"

"Yes, any problem with that?"

"Hmm... Haven’t you thought the big boss might refuse?"

"Why would he refuse?" Su Xiaomeng asked quickly, then smiled at Chi Lun, "Professor Chi, my husband is very open-minded. While he might be a domineering CEO, he’s not unreasonable. Okay?"

Look at the expression on Su Xiaomeng’s face, full of pride for her husband being the best in the world.

Chi Lun shook his head gently. He spoke as candidly as always, "You say you have a bond with this little boy. How many times have you met? Have you spent much time together?"

"Um... It’s okay."

"And what about the little boy’s father?" Chi Lun asked with a deep, enigmatic look.

Su Xiaomeng pondered, "Also okay, just met a few times..."

"A five-year-old kid barely knows you, yet invites you to play mom for kindergarten’s parent-child event. Don’t you find it odd or suspicious?"

"..."

Being told like this by Chi Lun, Su Xiaomeng felt an unease creeping into her heart.

"In my view, maybe it’s not the little boy having so much fondness for you, rather his father does."

"..." Su Xiaomeng’s eyes widened suddenly.

"Unless an adult is directing this, a five-year-old can actively call and invite you to a so-called parent-child event?"

"Hahahaha!"

As soon as Chi Lun said that, Su Xiaomeng burst into laughter, leaving Chi Lun a bit embarrassed and feeling he might have been overthinking.
