Chapter 29: 29 - Great People Only Die Once

Elias’s sudden action left King stunned for a few seconds. Looking around and seeing that there wasn’t a single potion left, King’s expression changed from confusion to looking at Elias like he was an idiot.

"What do you mean? Why did you only keep two portions and give me eight portions? Is this thing not valuable?"

From the moment King saw the protagonist until now, all he had seen were strange actions from him. He trusted people to the point of being stupid, nearly died but only cared about making potions, and after making the potions, he gave eight portions away for no reason to a stranger while only keeping two portions for himself.

Was this stupidity or cowardice? How could a protagonist’s personality be like this?

"This is of course very valuable... at least to me. For the past three years, I haven’t even been allowed to touch a single drop. I never even dreamed I’d have this many potions in my hands."

Elias grinned and answered honestly. His expression looked as if he truly trusted King completely, even though the two of them didn’t know each other at all.

This sincerity to the point of stupidity made King feel very uncomfortable. Saying he hated it was a bit too much, but it was really frustrating.

"Then why give it to me? I didn’t threaten you, did I?"

King’s brows furrowed tighter and tighter. For some reason, the more he looked at Elias’s friendly expression, the more he wanted to punch him.

Elias didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he silently observed King for a few seconds, then smiled and said.

"Wouldn’t it be too late if I waited until you threatened me?"

Being able to hear words this sincere meant that, based on Elias’s observation, King wasn’t a bad person.

This question surprised King a little. It seemed this protagonist wasn’t as stupid as he had thought. Elias just had a rather unusual personality.

"This is something you worked so hard to make, and you almost lost your life for it. Even if you’re not greedy, shouldn’t you at least feel reluctant to give up your own hard work?"

"Does that matter? Until now, I haven’t even had a single drop of potion. Having this much now is already really good."

Elias’s relaxed attitude left King not knowing what to say. Was this what they called having no ambition? It didn’t really seem like it, but...

The feeling King had right now was like watching a beggar who had just won ten million dollars in the lottery give eight million dollars to a complete stranger who happened to be standing beside him.

"Don’t you have any ambition? If you tried to keep everything, or even tried to take the things on me, you’d become stronger much faster."

"I want to become the greatest mage!"

Being told that he had no ambition, Elias immediately became more forceful in his response. The eyes of someone weak who hadn’t even reached rank I somehow made King feel... ’scary’?

It wasn’t the kind of fear he felt when looking at a terrifying monster, but a determination so strong that it didn’t seem like something a teenager should have. It was unreasonable, ridiculous, yet it would never change.

Feeling quite impressed by Elias, King wanted to see what this world’s protagonist was really like.

"Pfft hahaha... You? A trash with a shattered mana core? Someone who hasn’t made any progress in three years? A coward who willingly gives all his possessions to a stranger, someone who isn’t even a mage?"

King pointed his index finger straight at Elias’s face and laughed loudly. Every mocking question really was enough to make anyone furious.

"I can’t beat you, and I know I’m trash..."

Elias’s straightforward answer made King suddenly stop laughing. Wasn’t a protagonist supposed to constantly shout to prove that he wasn’t trash?

Even if he didn’t say it out loud, his eyes should definitely refuse to accept it, while his heart burned with determination to prove himself, right?

King felt that all the scenarios he had come up with in his head about this world seemed to be completely wrong. A protagonist with such a bizarre personality couldn’t possibly be the kind of trash protagonist who rose up and slapped the faces of everyone who had looked down on him.

"But does it matter? I will become the greatest mage. As long as I still have a chance to live, I won’t give up on my dream."

Elias spoke firmly. His nearsighted eyes that couldn’t see anything clearly were strangely determined at this moment. The spirit he showed now looked completely different from the coward in King’s impression.

"Ridiculous! A dream? Look at reality. You’re trash! This ridiculous dream of yours will never come true."

King suddenly shouted and released his spiritual power, making Elias take several steps back. Not only did he speak, but he also pressed his sword against Elias’s neck.

Feeling that the intimidation was still not high enough, King decided to use his Heavenly Dao Swordsman state as well to scare this protagonist who was really getting on his nerves.

The pressure from the spiritual power radiating from King made Elias’s pupils shrink, and his weak body trembled uncontrollably.

"Just say that your dream is stupid, and that you’ll never pursue that foolish goal in this life, and I’ll spare your life. Otherwise..."

His forehead was drenched in sweat, his heart was beating wildly, but Elias’s eyes didn’t blink even once. Facing someone with absolute, overwhelming power, he didn’t choose to run away but stared straight into King’s eyes.

"Great people only die once in their lives. Cowards die again and again. Someone with a dream may not necessarily succeed, but if you want to succeed, you must never betray your dream. If I turn my back on my dream now, my dream will turn its back on me forever, so if you want to kill me, then do whatever you want."

With death right in front of him, Elias still kept a serious expression and stared straight into King’s eyes. He could run away as many times as he wanted throughout his life, but he could never betray his dream even once.

If he lied now to survive, it would still be betraying his dream. A dream could be kept secret in one’s heart and never told to anyone, but he absolutely couldn’t open his mouth and deny it.

"Pfft hahahaha... Not bad. I won’t kill you, and I don’t need the potions either. Do whatever you want."

The Heavenly Dao Swordsman state was immediately deactivated, then King laughed and lowered his sword. Someone should at least be like this to be worthy of being a protagonist that he helped.

[Master, you see it now, right? I told you the protagonist is definitely not an ordinary person.]

"You’re giving him a little too much credit. I just feel like he’s not completely trash."
