Chapter 110: Where My Heart Belongs

  • Next Chapter

Lane stared at Victor.

She was breathing heavily.

Her breath came in short spasms.

"Haaa..."

She finally let out a long breath.

"Young Master, you have really become powerful."

She looked at him with open admiration.

"Much more powerful than before."

Victor lowered his spear.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"You girls are not bad either."

Lane smiled.

Skyla smiled as well.

They were exhausted.

Their garments were soaked with sweat and they both were completely exhausted.

Still, neither looked disappointed.

If anything, they looked satisfied.

They had given everything they had.

Victor and the girls stopped. A hour of sparring had finally ended.

The tension in the battlefield began to subside.

Victor walked over to them.

You couldn’t miss the exhaustion written across their faces. Their clothes were soaked with sweat and both girls were completely wiped out.

And though we felt their exhaustion, there was a contentment in their gaze.

Victor smiled.

"Let’s rest."

Both girls nodded.

For the first time in a while, neither of them had anything left to say.

They simply stayed there together.

Finally, the battle field was dead quiet. There was no more that buzz in the air from the training, only the slight breeze and the soft shuffle of grass.

It was still quiet even after all they had been through; the silence was strangely reassuring.

They sat down on the grass.

Ian and Skyla sat side by side next to Victor, their shoulders brushing him.

The heat of their bodies pierced into him.

In the air hung the scents of the familiar home, along with the new scent of grass and the remnants of sweat from the training.

Victor pulled back, placing an arm around each one of them.

"All right, I’m going to ask if you two will stay here with me," he said softly.

His voice carried no teasing this time.

It was simple.

Honest.

Both girls immediately blushed.

She cast her eyes downward, her finger provoking the grass with anxiety.

"Young Master..." she whispered.

Skyla smiled faintly.

"We’ll always be here."

Victor looked at the two of them.

For a moment, he said nothing.

It was a comfort just to hear that.

He had spent most of his life apprehensive about what was to come. Now he was about to unwind a little with his nearest and dearest.

"You two are getting better," Victor said.

He lifted a hand and wiped the sweat from his brow.

Synopsis: Lane, weary but pleased, returns his smile.

"So are you, Young Master."

Skyla nodded.

You’re progressed a huge amount in only one week.

Victor couldn’t help smiling.

"I had good motivation."

Lane glanced at him.

A playful spark rekindled in her weary gaze.

Without saying another word, she stood up.

She went to Victor’s side and placed her arms around his waist.

"I’m tired, Young Master. Carry me back?"

He looked at her for a minute.

Then he laughed.

"You’re a cultivator, Lane. You can walk."

"But I want you to carry me."

Lane puffed out her cheeks.

Her face was so artificially transfigured that it almost made Victor laugh once more.

Skyla shook her head.

"You’re spoiled, Lane."

"Jealous?"

Skyla froze.

A faint blush spread across her cheeks.

"I-I’m not jealous!"

Victor chuckled.

He didn’t bother arguing.

Rather, he bent, gathering Lane up in his arms.

"Fine. But only because you asked nicely."

Lane immediately brightened.

"Thank you, Young Master!"

She leaned forward and planted a kiss on his cheek before he could utter another word.

It was quick.

Yet, the heat that remained was a mere smile from Victor.

Skyla watched them with a slight pout.

Victor cast a quick glance at her and she averted her eyes.

"Come on," Victor said.

Skyla sighed and followed.

The three of them headed back to the mansion.

Lane snuggled happily in Victor’s arms, far too self-satisfied.

Skyla walked beside them.

There was still the slight pout, but the corner of her mouth had a subtle smile as well.

The evening breeze passed through the trees.

The struggle, however, did not abate soon enough.

Victor looked at the girls who stood on either side of him.

For once, his mind was completely quiet.

No pressure.

No worries.

No worries about the next day.

His world was full of cultivation, fights, dangers, and individuals he had actually developed to genuinely care about.

Just this moment.

A bizarre calmness came over him.

This was his life now.

Training.

Laughing.

Loving.

It was nothing like his previous life on Earth.

His days back then had been all too dull. College. School.

Work.

Day after day, week after week, work.

He had thought that was all there was to life.

Now, everything had changed.

His world was full of cultivation, fights, dangers, and individuals he had actually developed to genuinely care about.

It was chaotic.

Sometimes exhausting.

Sometimes dangerous.

But he wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Victor looked ahead at the mansion.

A soft smile appeared on his face.

I’m home, he thought.

The thought was simple.

Still it felt like more than he knew how to say.

Victor smiled.

The sun continued to shine.

The birds continued to sing.

And the three of them walked together.

Enjoying the peace.
