Superior Physician
Chapter 72: Joyous and Carefree
Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Joyous and Carefree
Judging by his resume alone, Yu Zhiming’s medical skills could be described as absolute garbage.
He was only twenty-six, with a bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine from a third-rate school like Jishui Medical College.
He had worked at a county hospital for four years with no research accomplishments to his name.
The paper he had published in a generic medical journal to get promoted to attending physician at the county hospital was also dug up by the exposé post.
An anonymous medical expert was quoted as saying it was a trash article published solely to meet the requirements for a title promotion, with basically no medical value.
And yet, a guy like this had somehow managed to secure a Tier 2 talent recruitment package from Huashan Hospital.
That was a high-level package that even some of the Chief Physicians and associate chief physicians recruited by Huashan Hospital hadn’t received.
The exposé post also made a point of mentioning...
...that according to the Huashan Hospital grapevine, this person had powerful connections and was the illegitimate son of a certain medical bigwig at the hospital...
An exposé, a famous hospital, hospital corruption, backroom deals, a medical bigwig, and an illegitimate son...
With so many viral elements piled on top of each other, it was hard for the post *not* to blow up.
By evening, Yu Zhiming was receiving a flood of concerned calls from friends and family.
Even his eldest sister, who rarely used her phone, called him, full of worry.
Yu Zhiming told his eldest sister that he had earned the talent recruitment spot at Huashan Hospital through his genuine abilities.
He was true gold that feared no fire, he said, telling his sister and parents not to worry...
Around ten o’clock that night, he received a call from Teacher Qi.
"Getting tired of all the fuss?"
Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but complain, "Yeah. I’m fine, but it’s making my family and friends worry."
"Teacher Qi, I finally understand the saying, ’A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.’"
"If I find out who the hell posted that irresponsible crap, I swear I’ll show them a world of hurt."
Qi Yue chuckled over the phone. "I never would have guessed. You’ve got quite a temper."
Yu Zhiming chuckled, and Qi Yue continued, "There are indeed some issues with the hospital’s talent recruitment. I just didn’t expect them to use you as the point of attack."
"But on second thought, it makes sense."
"Zhiming, your resume on paper has absolutely zero credibility. Even a grade-schooler could tell something fishy was going on."
Qi Yue sneered. "What they don’t know, however, is that the ’fishy’ part is your absolute skill, not some dirty deal."
"This time, by choosing you as their target, they’ve made a major strategic blunder. They’ve picked a fight with the wrong person."
Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but chuckle. "Seeing such an obvious opening, why didn’t they wait a little longer and spend a bit more effort investigating me?"
Qi Yue’s tone was sarcastic. "Perhaps someone didn’t want them to investigate your true situation."
"Perhaps someone deliberately provoked some hothead into action before your reputation and abilities became widely known."
"A hospital with several thousand people is bound to have all sorts of characters with their own agendas."
"Zhiming..."
Qi Yue instructed, "Don’t worry about this. You don’t need to get involved. Just focus on your work."
"I imagine Dean Li will use this opportunity to clean out some of the hospital’s riffraff."
"Yes, Teacher Qi!" Yu Zhiming replied obediently.
"Also, Zhiming..."
Qi Yue added over the phone, "First thing tomorrow morning, go report for duty at the outpatient and emergency department."
"I’ve already spoken with Director Zhao there."
"On Mondays, there are relatively more patients from out of town, so you’ll have a greater chance of encountering a wider variety of diseases..."
Not long after Yu Zhiming ended his call with Teacher Qi, Fourth Sister walked into the bedroom holding her phone.
"Uncle, come see! Don’t I look heroic and cool?"
Yu Zhiming took the phone from Fourth Sister. On the screen was Xiaoxue, dressed in camouflage fatigues, looking refreshingly sharp.
"Not bad, not bad at all. You look quite dashing."
"So military training officially starts tomorrow?"
Fu Xiaoxue, on the video call, hummed in agreement. "We met the drill instructor tonight and had a mobilization meeting."
Just then, a round-faced girl with a short ponytail squeezed into the video feed.
"Ah Xue, is this your uncle?"
"Hey, everyone, come look! Ah Xue’s uncle is actually really handsome. She wasn’t exaggerating."
At the round-faced girl’s shout, two more heads crammed into the frame.
Yu Zhiming sat up a little straighter, trying to make himself look more energetic and handsome on screen.
"Hi, everyone. I’m Fu Xiaoxue’s uncle, Yu Zhiming. I’m a doctor."
"Hello, Uncle! I’m Ye Zhiwei."
"I’m Liu Yiyi."
"I’m Wei Feiyu."
The three girls weren’t shy at all, giggling as they scrambled to introduce themselves.
"Hello, it’s nice to meet you all..."
Yu Zhiming chatted with them casually for a bit, then put on his "elder" persona to give Xiaoxue a few earnest words of advice before handing the phone back to Fourth Sister, ready to get back to his studies.
He picked up his own phone and noticed a voice message from an unknown number.
Yu Zhiming played it, and an incredibly seductive female voice filled his ear.
"One person’s loneliness is two people’s mistake. It’s a long night and I can’t sleep... How about a chat, handsome?"
The voice was breathy and moist, like the desperate moans of a lonely, mature woman.
But as the voice entered Yu Zhiming’s mind, he instead pictured a fuming little girl with wide, angry eyes.
’Is that a voice changer? Or is she just a talented voice actress?’
Yu Zhiming muttered to himself and casually typed a few words back: "I’m annoyed. Not in the mood to chat."
Soon, another voice message arrived.
"Being annoyed is the perfect reason to chat. Big Sister here can make all your troubles disappear and leave you feeling like you’re in heaven."
Yu Zhiming’s fingers flew across the screen.
"With just your mouth?"
Behind the safety of a screen, Yu Zhiming could be quite dirty too.
After all, as a doctor with considerable clinical experience, while he might not have *done* everything, he had certainly *seen* a lot.
Knowing she was just messing with him, Yu Zhiming decided to play along and tease her back, to see who would crack first.
"Even if you have the best mouth and tongue skills, it won’t work. I’m not some pathetic loser who gets off on fantasies."
A couple of disdainful "heh hehs" came from the phone, followed by: "There’s nothing Big Sister can’t do. And let me tell you, I’ve got big boobs, a tiny waist, a round butt, and long legs. My body is smoking hot, and I’ve seen countless men."
Hearing this, Yu Zhiming couldn’t stop himself from sneering in disgust.
’That little assistant’s figure...’
Yu Zhiming thought back. She had a chest and a butt, sure, but they were just so-so. Nothing particularly eye-catching.
’Hmm, slightly above average, but not quite good.’
’Those long legs, though, deserved a ninety out of a hundred.’
As for having "seen countless men," although Yu Zhiming hadn’t had the chance to give his little assistant a physical examination, he was still a decent judge of character.
’Judging by the way she walked and the structure of her pelvis, she probably hadn’t even had more than two boyfriends.’
Yu Zhiming continued typing, "Keep on bragging. It’s a law of online chatting: whatever you say is the opposite of reality."
"I’m guessing you’re built like a barrel, no taller than five feet, a so-called Prince Qiao who can only rely on your voice to charm lonely nerds."
A moment later, another voice message came through.
"I know you’re just saying that to provoke me into sending a picture or video chatting with you. Well, Big Sister will grant your wish."
"Because I’ve got the confidence to back it up."
In less than a minute, a photo arrived. It was a head-less shot of a woman in a tight-fitting outfit, her figure on full display.
Seeing the photo, Yu Zhiming realized his little assistant had actually sent a picture of herself, and it wasn’t even photoshopped.
’She really is confident.’
"This is the body you’re bragging about?!"
"Up top, it’s not even a handful. Down below, even in those tight pants, your butt isn’t what I’d call perfectly round."
"The only thing worth looking at is your legs."
"But the most important thing is..."
Yu Zhiming laid the insults on thick. "You’re all skin and bones. You’d feel all bony to the touch, just a terrible feel."
"You’re not a ’Big Sister,’ you’re just a little girl. You have no idea what men really like!"
Yu Zhiming waited for a while, but there was no reply.
Imagining the little brat fuming with rage, Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but chuckle.
That little brat had been right about one thing. Chatting with her really did make his troubles disappear, filling him with cheer...
