Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Rich Woman

On Thursday, Yu Zhiming was asked by Dr. Cui Zhitan, the deputy director of general surgery, to perform physical examinations on several of his friends and relatives.

This time, Yu Zhiming didn’t find any shocking major illnesses, only a few minor issues that needed attention.

On Friday afternoon, he was roped into half a day of grunt work by Director Liu from the OB/GYN department.

After his shift ended, Yu Zhiming rushed back to the Qi Yue Medical Research Center and first went to the ward to check on his patient, Xu Feng.

After two days of treatment and recovery, some of the small herpes blisters on his body had already started to scab over.

But a full recovery was still a few agonizing days away. At least he was improving day by day...

Yu Zhiming returned to the main office to pack his things and found that Zhou Mo hadn’t left for the day yet.

"Dr. Yu, after a lot of persuading on my part, my mom has finally agreed to a physical examination."

"Are you free tomorrow?"

Zhou Mo added, "My mom wants to have the check-up at her studio. It’s in the East Section of South Pujiang Road."

Yu Zhiming mused, "Tomorrow morning I have to take Xiaoxue to Binhai Jiaotong University to register for classes, but I should be able to make some time in the afternoon. A check-up doesn’t take too long."

Zhou Mo’s voice was full of excitement. "Dr. Yu, then it’s settled. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow afternoon."

Yu Zhiming nodded in agreement.

He finished packing his things, hung his white coat in his locker, and left the main office with Zhou Mo.

The two chatted casually as they walked.

Just as they walked out of the hospital’s main entrance, a dark-skinned, sturdy young man with a crew cut suddenly appeared, grabbed Yu Zhiming from behind by the waist, and spun him around.

This gave Zhou Mo a huge fright.

But she quickly noticed that Yu Zhiming didn’t look scared at all, and she relaxed.

"You brat, put me down right now."

Yu Zhiming slapped the young man’s hands a few times and scolded him before he was finally set down.

Yu Zhiming shot the grinning young man a glare, smoothed out the wrinkles on his clothes, and then introduced him to Zhou Mo.

"Zhou Mo, this is my nephew, Xiaoxue’s older brother, Fu Xiaobo. He’s only two years younger than me and has no respect for his elders."

The handsomely tanned Fu Xiaobo grinned cheekily and said to Zhou Mo, "Hey beautiful, you’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen. For real, I never lie."

"Hey, are you my uncle’s girlfriend?"

Yu Zhiming swiftly raised his hand and expertly smacked Fu Xiaobo on the back of the head.

"What nonsense are you spouting? This is my colleague."

Fu Xiaobo quickly took a step back and shouted playfully, "Beautiful, I strongly suggest you make a move on my uncle sooner rather than later."

"Look at him, isn’t he tall?"

"And isn’t he handsome?"

"As for talent, I don’t even need to mention it."

"And my uncle has a great personality, aside from not taking good care of his juniors."

Yu Zhiming tried to kick Fu Xiaobo, but the kid nimbly dodged it.

He looked at Zhou Mo, who was doubled over with laughter, and said awkwardly, "Zhou Mo, don’t listen to his nonsense."

"Hey, how are you getting home?"

Zhou Mo stopped laughing, pointed to a shopping mall across the street, and said, "I don’t have a parking spot at the hospital, so I had to park in the underground garage of that mall over there."

At that moment, the traffic light turned from red to green.

She quickly waved to Yu Zhiming. "Dr. Yu, see you tomorrow!"

"See you tomorrow!"

Yu Zhiming watched Zhou Mo cross the street, then turned to Fu Xiaobo, who had come up beside him and was about three fingers shorter.

"I haven’t seen you in just a few months, how did you get so dark again? At this rate, you could play Bao Gong and all you’d need is the crescent moon."

Fu Xiaobo said nonchalantly, "I’ve been running around to building material markets a lot recently, so I’ve gotten a lot of sun."

"I’ll lighten up again once I’m bundled up in the winter."

Fu Xiaobo turned on the charm again. "Uncle, that beautiful colleague of yours is a real knockout. With your qualifications, if you put in a little effort, winning her over would be no problem."

"You’d better act fast. A total beauty like that must have a lot of wolves eyeing her."

Yu Zhiming shot him a sideways glance. "You should worry about your own love life first."

"Hey, are you the only one who came to pick me up?"

Fu Xiaobo grinned. "They went to the restaurant ahead with our aunt and cousin. I volunteered to come get you."

"Uncle, the car is over there..."

Yu Zhiming walked about ten meters with Fu Xiaobo and, with a look of utter disgust, got into a Wuling minivan parked on the side of the road with Lu Province license plates.

Much to his surprise, the inside of the van was spotless, without a speck of dust or dirt to be seen.

"We have to take my sister to register for college in this car tomorrow. Dad and I spent a ton of effort last night cleaning it inside and out."

Yu Zhiming chuckled. "Xiaoxue’s classmates are all from well-off families."

"Showing up in this piece of junk will expose your family’s financial situation right away. You’d be better off taking her in a taxi."

Fu Xiaobo said nonchalantly as he drove, "We don’t have money, so we don’t have money. Are we supposed to pretend to be rich when we’re not?"

"Our Xiaoxue isn’t that vain. She said she’s very happy that we’re taking her to school together in this car."

Fu Xiaobo suddenly stuck his right arm out in front of Yu Zhiming, showing it off. "Uncle, take a look."

Yu Zhiming noticed a brand-new mechanical watch on the kid’s arm.

When he saw the logo on the watch, Yu Zhiming froze.

"A Rolex? A knockoff?!"

"Uncle, am I the kind of vain person who wears knockoffs? This is a genuine Rolex. It’s worth nearly a hundred thousand."

Yu Zhiming snorted, his voice dripping with disdain. "Who are you kidding? With your migrant worker vibe, who would believe you’re wearing a genuine hundred-thousand-yuan Rolex?"

He paused for a moment, then asked, "Your aunt gave it to you?"

Fu Xiaobo nodded vigorously. "Yeah. It wasn’t just me. She gave gifts to my dad, my mom, Xiaoxue, and my maternal aunt, too."

"They got jade jewelry, which wasn’t cheap either. Said to be at least tens of thousands for each piece."

Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but blurt out, "Holy shit!" Then he asked, "Is this aunt of yours some kind of tycoon?"

Fu Xiaobo grunted in confirmation. "My dad said this troublesome aunt of mine married a local in Guangshen who got rich from demolition compensation."

"He said she divorced not long ago and got several properties in the settlement. If those are apartments in downtown Guangshen, she must be loaded. If not a hundred million, then at least thirty to fifty million..."

Nearly half an hour later, the Wuling minivan pulled up in front of a restaurant with a rather impressive facade.

Yu Zhiming and Fu Xiaobo got out of the car and went up to the second floor of the restaurant, entering private room number ten.

As soon as he stepped into the room, Yu Zhiming felt an intense gaze fixated on him.

He followed the gaze and saw a woman standing up from the host’s seat at the table. She was slightly heavyset but still graceful, wearing exquisite makeup, with long, wavy, wine-red hair.

Next to the woman, a petite and beautiful girl also stood up.

Yu Zhiming knew they must be Xiaobo’s aunt, Fu Chunhua, and his cousin, Zeng Yan.

Yu Zhiming’s brother-in-law, Fu Chun’an, was from Gan Province. He had met and fallen in love with Zhiming’s oldest sister years ago when they were both migrant workers.

Later, after they got married, his brother-in-law moved back with his sister to live near her family.

His brother-in-law was only slightly taller than his sister and had been quite handsome in his youth.

But the butcher’s knife of time, along with the hardships of life, had left his brother-in-law looking much more weathered.

His skin wasn’t as dark as Fu Xiaobo’s, though.

"Sorry, I’m late!"

Yu Zhiming apologized first, then walked over to the empty seat next to his Fourth Sister.

"Brother-in-law, Sis!"

Yu Zhiming greeted his own family first, then turned to Fu Chunhua and Zeng Yan and said very politely, "Sister Fu, Zeng Yan, hello. I’m Yu Zhiming."

"Hello, hello..."

Fu Chunhua’s eyes lit up. "I’m your brother-in-law’s sister, his biological sister. I’ve always heard my brother say you’re dashing and exceptionally talented."

"Seeing you today, I can tell it’s true."

Fu Chunhua then handed over a small, exquisite gift box with the Rolex logo on it.

"I know you’re a doctor at a major hospital, and they say a famous doctor deserves a famous watch. It’s just a little welcome gift; everyone gets one."

"Please don’t refuse it!"

Yu Zhiming didn’t know her well—this was their first time meeting. If it were a small, ordinary gift, he would have accepted it.

But this was an expensive, luxury watch.

On top of that, because of a hearing issue, he’d never been interested in watches.

Yu Zhiming kept trying to refuse.

In the end, it was only after his sister and brother-in-law insisted that he reluctantly accepted it with repeated thanks.

Yu Zhiming took the watch and placed it on the dining table without opening it for a look.

Fu Xiaobo, sitting beside him, grew curious, reached for the box, and opened the lid.

He whispered, "Uncle, a Rolex Submariner... the green one..."
