Superior Physician
Chapter 57: Can’t Provoke, Can Hide
Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Can’t Provoke, Can Hide
Wang Chunyuan, a cardiopulmonary expert from Huashan Hospital, personally came to intercept him, so Yu Zhiming had no choice but to follow him to the Cardiopulmonary Building.
After walking a few steps, Wang Chunyuan said sheepishly, "Zhiming, I was at a gathering with some friends, and I got a little carried away. I ended up telling them about your ability to spot problems from the smallest details."
"You know how it is. My friends are all around my age, and they’ve all got their share of aches and pains."
"They’re extremely concerned about their health and weren’t willing to wait even one more day..."
Yu Zhiming chuckled and cut him off. "Doctor Wang, you don’t have to feel bad. If anything, I should be thanking you for spreading my name."
"I’ll examine them carefully."
"Even if there are no problems, I’ll have to find a few just to make their trip worthwhile!"
Wang Chunyuan couldn’t help but laugh, knowing the young man was just joking.
He then asked suddenly, "Zhiming, that beautiful female colleague you were with just now—did you only run into her after you got to the hospital?"
Yu Zhiming grunted in affirmation.
A thought struck him, and he asked directly, "Doctor Wang, is there something I should be aware of?"
Wang Chunyuan said slowly, "Last time, I told you that Director Qi is the subject of a lot of criticism at the hospital."
"Most of the talk is about his personal conduct."
"There’s an irresponsible rumor going around that this beautiful woman might be the next Madam Qi."
After a brief pause, Wang Chunyuan added, "Of course, it’s just a rumor. There’s no concrete evidence."
"Still, Zhiming, you’re studying under Director Qi. You have to be very careful in how you handle these various relationships."
Yu Zhiming nodded lightly. "I’m new here. I’ll need at least six months to a year just to get adjusted."
"I’m going to focus on my studies and nothing else."
Wang Chunyuan nodded. "That’s the best decision. You’re still young, so improving yourself should be your top priority."
"Once you’ve made a name for yourself, everything else will follow..."
Yu Zhiming arrived at Wang Chunyuan’s office and met five of his friends, all of whom were around the same age.
After brief introductions and pleasantries, Yu Zhiming began to examine them one by one.
At fifty or sixty years of age, their bodily functions had already begun to show noticeable decline.
This manifested in their internal organs as various chronic issues, such as functional degradation.
To ensure he caught every issue, Yu Zhiming was exceptionally thorough with his examinations this time.
As a result, each person took a relatively long time to examine; even the quickest one took half an hour.
The examination results for the first four men were quite good.
Thanks to their focus on their own health and proper daily maintenance, the problems Yu Zhiming found with their internal organs were all minor and required no special treatment.
They just needed to pay more attention to their diet and daily habits, supplement it with some targeted exercise, and make some dietary adjustments.
These findings made the atmosphere in the room quite pleasant and relaxed.
This also led the men who had finished their examinations to look at Wang Chunyuan with a playful glint in their eyes.
’You old rascal, you praised this kid like he was a miracle doctor, the kind you only see once in a century.’
’Turns out he’s nothing special after all.’
’He just pats and presses you from head to toe, points out a few trivial issues, and then chalks it all up to the body aging—recommending the usual advice for seniors like taking better care of yourself, eating healthy, and getting moderate exercise.’
’And you dare to boast that this level of skill makes him a miracle doctor?’
The worldly-wise Wang Chunyuan naturally picked up on the various meanings in their gazes.
’He was seething inside.’
’So, you all need me to actually find a major problem before you realize you’re in the presence of a master, is that it?’
Just then, Wang Chunyuan noticed...
Yu Zhiming was repeatedly patting and pressing his old friend Feng Jiaxun’s abdomen and ribs. His previously calm expression had vanished, replaced by a grave seriousness, his brow even furrowed in a frown.
Wang Chunyuan’s heart tightened.
These men were all old friends. They might tease each other on a normal day, but he truly didn’t want any of them to have a serious problem.
Wang Chunyuan could also see that Feng Jiaxun, who was being examined, was so nervous his face was taut with tension.
He spoke up, "Zhiming, if you’ve found something, just say it plainly."
"Acting like this just makes us more worried."
Wang Chunyuan’s question made his other four friends realize something was wrong, and they gathered around.
Yu Zhiming gave a slight smile and said, "It’s the pancreas. I held off on saying anything because I couldn’t get a clear reading."
He then explained to Feng Jiaxun and the others, "The pancreas is located deep in the upper abdominal cavity, obscured by organs like the liver, stomach, and intestines. I can only get a rough sense of its condition."
"I recommend we conduct further tests on Uncle Feng’s pancreas to rule things out."
Yu Zhiming’s words made Wang Chunyuan’s heart sink.
The pancreas is a digestive gland. Its deep location makes it difficult to detect abnormalities during a routine physical examination.
Furthermore, many of its symptoms are easily confused with gastrointestinal diseases, leading to frequent misdiagnoses.
By the time a pancreatic issue is finally confirmed, it has often already developed into a major problem.
Wang Chunyuan looked at the worried Feng Jiaxun and put on a relaxed expression.
"Lao Feng, don’t worry too much."
"Like Zhiming just said, the pancreas is located deep inside, surrounded by other organs. How could he possibly get a clear picture with his method of examining through the skin of your belly?"
"Still, just in case, I’ll contact a colleague in Gastroenterology right now and arrange a targeted examination for you."
Yu Zhiming suggested, "Doctor Wang, why not contact Dr. Cui Zhitan in General Surgery?"
Hearing this, Wang Chunyuan had the sudden urge to kick the young man.
’Is this kid trying to scare him to death? Why not just say we should contact Oncology?’
’Can’t you see that old guy Feng Jiaxun’s face has already gone pale?’
With a dark expression, Wang Chunyuan called Yu Zhiming out into the hallway.
"Alright, tell me. What exactly did you find?"
Yu Zhiming said softly, "The tail of the pancreas is somewhat enlarged. The feeling it gives me... isn’t good."
Wang Chunyuan fell silent.
He knew what this young man, Yu Zhiming, was capable of. He possessed a perceptive talent that other doctors could hardly hope to match.
’If he says it isn’t good, then there’s a ninety percent chance the final test results are going to be terrible.’
Wang Chunyuan let out a long sigh and said, "Let’s go to Gastroenterology for the examination."
"They’re more thorough and detailed when it comes to pancreatic exams. If he really needs surgery, it won’t be too late to transfer him to Surgery then."
He glanced at his watch and said, "It’s half an hour before noon. We can ask them to work a little overtime during their lunch break and do an urgent examination for Lao Feng."
"Zhiming, we don’t know when we’ll be done here, so you don’t need to come with us."
"Just go get some lunch by yourself. I’ll let you know the results as soon as they’re out..."
Yu Zhiming felt a little bummed out.
’I get dragged over here and put to work all morning, and in the end, they don’t even treat me to lunch...’
Yu Zhiming ambled over to the employee cafeteria where he had eaten with Wang Chunyuan last time. He swiped his work card and got himself a reasonably hearty lunch.
He carried a stainless steel tray with braised pork belly, a soy-braised chicken leg, shiitake mushrooms with bok choy, and "thousand-layer" tofu, along with a portion of rice and a bowl of free winter melon soup, and found an empty table in a relatively secluded and quiet corner.
Yu Zhiming had barely taken two bites when the light in front of him dimmed as someone sat down opposite him.
He looked up and recognized the person.
It was the beautiful attending physician from Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ding Ye.
After yesterday’s experience, Yu Zhiming was practically traumatized.
He was genuinely a little intimidated by these bold and forward female OB/GYN doctors, but it wouldn’t be right to just pick up his tray and flee.
Seeing that Ding Ye had come empty-handed, Yu Zhiming asked politely, "Dr. Ding, have you already eaten, or are you just about to?"
"I haven’t eaten yet!"
Ding Ye replied, her eyes shining brightly. "This morning, we contacted Neurosurgery and performed a pituitary gland examination on a rather heavyset patient with infertility issues."
"Dr. Yu, does that ring a bell?"
Yu Zhiming chuckled. "So she really did come in."
"So, did you find anything?"
Ding Ye laughed. "Just as you diagnosed. We found a small tumor on her pituitary gland."
"Dr. Yu, this just proves that you have a strong, undeniable connection with our Gynecology department."
Yu Zhiming resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Meeting her fiery, intense gaze, he said, "Dr. Ding, look, a line is already forming to get food."
"You should go get your lunch first, before it gets even more crowded."
Ding Ye took his advice and got up to buy her lunch.
The moment she left, Yu Zhiming activated his super-speed eating mode...
’If you can’t afford to offend them, you can at least afford to hide from them...’
