Chapter 52: Chapter 52: First Day of Reporting In

A little after 8:30 on Monday morning, Yu Zhiming arrived at the main entrance of Huashan Hospital, accompanied by his eldest sister, Fourth Sister, and Xiaoxue in a taxi.

Yu Zhiming got out of the car, briefcase in hand, but was called back just as he was about to walk away.

"Fifth Brother, are you sure you don’t need us to go with you to check in?"

With a helpless look, Yu Zhiming said, "Eldest Sister, I’m twenty-six. I’m not a child anymore."

"In my eyes, you’ve only been grown-up for a few days!"

From inside the taxi, Yu Zhaoxia reached out, straightened the hem of Yu Zhiming’s shirt, and looked him up and down one more time.

That morning, Yu Zhiming was wearing sneakers, coffee-colored khaki pants, and a light-colored, long-sleeved casual shirt with a subtle pattern. He looked clean and fresh, with no other accessories.

He wasn’t even wearing a watch, which was practically standard for a doctor.

This was mainly because Yu Zhiming found the ticking of a watch to be a bit noisy, interfering with his stethoscope.

Though his attire was simple, it complemented Yu Zhiming’s tall frame and handsome features, giving him an especially sunny and dashing look.

Fu Xiaoxue poked her small head out of the car window and yelled, "Little Uncle, go conquer them!"

"Make Huashan Hospital cheer for you and be proud of you!"

Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but chuckle, reaching out to ruffle the girl’s hair a few times...

After the taxi started moving, Yu Zhiming waved at the car, then turned and strode into Huashan Hospital...

He first went to the Human Resources office on the third floor of the hospital’s main administrative building.

On a long bench outside the HR office sat a short, skinny man and a beautiful woman with a short ponytail. A tall, long-faced man with glasses stood beside them.

The three of them looked to be about Yu Zhiming’s age, and their attire was also quite formal.

’They must be here to check in, too,’ Yu Zhiming guessed.

The woman with the short ponytail was also sizing up Yu Zhiming. Her eyes lit up as she asked, "Are you also here to check in for your new position?"

Yu Zhiming nodded and replied, "Yes."

The woman with the short ponytail scooted over a little and said enthusiastically, "Come have a seat. We still have to wait for ten or twenty minutes."

"Oh, and I’m Bao Wan, from Jingda Medical School!"

Yu Zhiming did not go over to sit.

The spot Bao Wan had made for him was so small that if he sat down, he would be pressed right up against her.

Yu Zhiming politely introduced himself, "Hello, Bao Wan. I’m Yu Zhiming, a graduate of Jishui Medical College."

"Jishui Medical College?" Bao Wan had clearly never heard of the school.

The man with glasses standing nearby said with a hint of disdain, "I know it. It’s a medical college in a prefecture-level city in Lu Province. It’s very easy to find if you count up from the bottom of the rankings."

The short, skinny man on the bench also slowly chimed in.

"Our hospital doesn’t just need doctors. We also need a large number of support staff, like orderlies, administrative staff, and logistics personnel."

Bao Wan let out a soft "oh," stopped sizing up Yu Zhiming, and discreetly scooted back to her original position.

Yu Zhiming saw this but just smirked to himself, not bothering to reveal his status and put them in their place.

’He and these three were not in the same league.’

Yu Zhiming stood still on the other side of the corridor.

None of them spoke again, waiting in silence.

During this time, hospital staff occasionally hurried past them, and a few employees entered the Human Resources office.

At seven or eight minutes to nine, a middle-aged man with a buzz cut ambled over.

He walked past Yu Zhiming toward the HR office, then suddenly stopped and turned his upper body toward him.

"Dr. Yu Zhiming?"

"That’s me," Yu Zhiming replied with a slight nod.

The middle-aged man turned his whole body to face him and said with a chuckle, "I had a feeling you’d be arriving in the next day or two, Dr. Yu."

"Dr. Yu, please. I’ll handle your check-in procedures for you."

Yu Zhiming gestured with his eyes toward Bao Wan and the other two, who were now staring at him in unison from the doorway.

"Those three are also here to check in, and they arrived earlier than I did."

The middle-aged man chuckled. "Their check-in procedures will be handled by the clerks."

"But for your onboarding, Dr. Yu, I must handle it personally."

"Dr. Yu, please..."

As they watched Yu Zhiming being invited into the Human Resources office, Bao Wan and the others couldn’t help but look at each other.

The man with glasses muttered three words, "A connected hire!"

Yu Zhiming followed the middle-aged man through the spacious outer office and into the director’s office in the back...

Even with Xie Wentao, the Director of Human Resources, handling it personally, the check-in procedure still involved the same steps.

Yu Zhiming handed over the original copies of his Physician Qualification Certificate, Physician Practicing Certificate, diploma, and other relevant documents to Director Xie Wentao, and filled out a few forms.

After that, Yu Zhiming received quite a few items from Director Xie.

For example, two white coats, an ID badge, a thick employee handbook, a fingerprint-activated tablet computer, a stethoscope, a medical penlight, and a box of black, blue, and red gel pens.

Director Xie explained to Yu Zhiming that new medical graduates usually had to undergo a three-day centralized training upon joining the hospital.

But a doctor like Yu Zhiming, with extensive work experience, wouldn’t need separate training.

However, he still needed to read the employee handbook.

He also had to use the tablet to log into the hospital’s intranet and watch three training videos.

After completing these tasks within three working days, Yu Zhiming would also need to take an online exam on the onboarding training. Only by scoring over ninety would he be considered to have passed this stage of the process...

After thanking the director for his personal reception, Yu Zhiming left the Human Resources office.

As soon as he walked out of the administrative building, he saw a familiar face: Gu Qingran, the Vice Dean of Ning’an Hospital.

"Dean Gu, you’re not waiting for me on purpose, are you?"

Gu Qingran broke into a smile. "If I said it was a coincidence, I doubt you’d believe me."

"Dr. Yu, for you."

Yu Zhiming took the documents he was handed and saw that they were two contracts for a specially-appointed expert.

"I’m just an attending physician. I wouldn’t dare call myself an expert."

Gu Qingran said seriously, "Dr. Yu, in medical fields like auscultation, percussion, and fetal positioning adjustments, you can do what others cannot. You are, without a doubt, a medical expert."

"Others cannot question it, nor are they qualified to."

A smile spread across Yu Zhiming’s face. "Dean Gu, thank you for the recognition, but I just started at Huashan Hospital. Wouldn’t it be a bit inappropriate to take a part-time job at your Ning’an Hospital right away?"

Gu Qingran laughed heartily. "What’s so inappropriate about it?"

"Which well-known doctor at Huashan Hospital doesn’t have a few part-time jobs or external collaborations?"

"Your boss, Director Qi, besides his part-time position at my Ning’an, has no fewer than ten other various part-time roles."

He then pointed to the contracts in Yu Zhiming’s hand.

"Dr. Yu, if you have concerns, you can ask for Director Qi’s opinion first and see what he says."

That was exactly what Yu Zhiming intended to do. He tucked the contracts into his briefcase.

Seeing this, Gu Qingran’s smile widened, and he gave a little wink.

"Dr. Yu, I imagine you’ll be quite busy this week, so I’ll settle for booking your Saturday."

Yu Zhiming shook his head. "This Saturday, I have to take my niece to Binhai Jiaotong University to check in for school."

Gu Qingran quickly amended, "Then Sunday it is. I’ll take you to tour Ning’an Hospital and give you a proper welcome reception."

"It’s settled, then. I’ll come pick you up."

Faced with Gu Qingran’s somewhat forceful decision, Yu Zhiming could only agree for the time being...

At 10:10 AM, Yu Zhiming arrived at the Qi Yue Medical Research Center.

He went to the director’s office on the third floor, knocked, and entered.

The first thing that caught Yu Zhiming’s eye was a beautiful young woman in a dark professional skirt suit, tidying up the desk.

For a moment, Yu Zhiming couldn’t look away.

The woman was simply too beautiful, too eye-catching.

Her features were as perfect as a painting, and her long hair flowed freely—she looked like a star who had just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

Below the right corner of her mouth, there was a small, playfully alluring beauty mark.

As for her figure, it was exactly the type Yu Zhiming preferred.

Full-figured without being heavy, and slim without being scrawny.

Her blouse was stretched taut, perfectly accentuating her ample curves.

Yu Zhiming met her lively eyes and asked tentatively, "Zhou Mo?"

"Dr. Yu Zhiming?"

Describing her voice as merely "crisp and pleasant" would be too generic and perfunctory.

To Yu Zhiming’s ears, it was like wind chimes stirred by a clear breeze under the moon, or a small brook leaping through a summer forest—each note entered his ears, refreshing his soul and filling him with a sense of comfort and joy.

Seeing Yu Zhiming a bit dazed, Zhou Mo flashed a perfect eight-tooth smile.

"Director Qi has gone on his rounds. He said that if you arrived, Dr. Yu, you should wait for him in the office..."

Just then, Yu Zhiming heard a flurry of chaotic footsteps rapidly approaching.

He thought it was the group from the rounds returning but was surprised when seven or eight women burst in.

A female doctor in her fifties led a flock of younger female doctors and nurses, a bevy of beauties each with her own unique charm.

The leading doctor first smiled at Yu Zhiming, then turned her gaze to Zhou Mo.

"Do you know who I am?"

Zhou Mo nodded and said softly, "I do. You’re Director Liu from Obstetrics and Gynecology."

Liu Yun, the Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said in a deep voice, "Good that you know. Tell Director Qi that I’m borrowing Dr. Yu for the day."

With that, she gave a domineering wave of her hand.

"Take him away!"

As she spoke, two beautiful female doctors grabbed Yu Zhiming’s left and right arms.

Not only that, but someone in front grabbed his belt while someone from behind pushed him...

And just like that, surrounded by a crowd of beautiful women, Yu Zhiming was hustled out of Director Qi’s office against his will.

"Hey, hey, whose hand is that groping around...?"
