Superior Physician
Chapter 29: Blessings to You
Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Blessings to You
Around 10 PM, Yu Zhiming, his sister, and Xiaoxue returned to their room at the Youyou Grand Hotel.
Yu Xiangwan suddenly asked worriedly, "Fifth Brother, how long do you think the hospital’s contract process will take?"
"And what about that settling-in bonus? They won’t wait until after you’ve officially started to pay it, will they?"
Yu Zhiming smiled. "Sis, it’s just a matter of a few days."
"Are you worried something will go wrong?"
Yu Xiangwan huffed. "A one-million settling-in bonus, plus twenty thousand a month in subsidies... that’s seven hundred and twenty thousand over three years."
"That’s no small amount of money."
"I won’t be able to truly relax until the contract is signed and the money is in the bank."
Yu Xiangwan thought of something else and asked, "That bill tonight... I glanced at it, and it was over nine thousand."
"How much do you think Dr. Qi makes a month?"
Yu Zhiming said thoughtfully, "Back in university, a professor told us that a Chief Physician at a top-tier hospital in a major city can have a total monthly income of two to three hundred thousand."
"People like Teacher Qi, Doctor Wang, and Doctor Cui are the best of the best among Chief Physicians. It’s very possible their monthly income is double or even triple that."
Yu Xiangwan couldn’t help but gasp.
"It’s that high?!"
"When you put it that way, your one-million bonus doesn’t seem like all that much, Fifth Brother."
Yu Zhiming chuckled. "That’s why first-tier cities are so attractive. They’re places where talent can shine, and the income potential is limitless."
"Of course, if you’re just doing a basic, ordinary job, the pay isn’t much higher than back in our county."
Fu Xiaoxue asked, "Uncle, once you start working at Huashan Hospital, how much will your monthly salary be, not including the subsidies?"
Yu Zhiming speculated, "I’m not sure about the salary for an Attending Physician at Huashan Hospital, but it probably won’t be that high. Maybe around the ten to twenty thousand mark."
Yu Xiangwan giggled. "Add the twenty-thousand subsidy, and that’s not a bad income at all."
"Fifth Brother, how about I quit my job and become your full-time assistant and housekeeper? I’ve discovered you can more than afford to support me."
Yu Zhiming chuckled. "No problem, but you can’t pull rank as my big sister."
"I’d be the boss, and what I say goes!"
Yu Xiangwan just rolled her eyes at him.
She checked the time again and said, "It’s ten o’clock. Our other sisters should still be up. I’m going to tell them the good news."
"Fifth Brother, you go take a shower and get some rest."
"Tomorrow, you have your own medical exam, and you also have to give Dr. Qi’s friend a check-up."
After a moment’s pause, Yu Xiangwan asked worriedly, "Fifth Brother, you’re not going to have another sleepless night, are you?"
Yu Zhiming answered honestly, "If I try really hard, I might be able to get three or four hours?"
Yu Xiangwan’s eyes glinted. "Fifth Brother, I have a way to make sure you get a good night’s sleep."
"Want to try it?"
Yu Zhiming blinked, a silent question in his eyes.
Yu Xiangwan giggled. "Fifth Brother, you know that day you got beaten to a pulp? We couldn’t wake you up no matter how loud we yelled."
"I could go to the trouble of beating you to a pulp again?"
’This sister is impossible,’ Yu Zhiming thought.
After a comfortable hot shower and getting ready for bed, Yu Zhiming lay down on the large bed.
He picked up his phone, found Su Tong’s number, and was about to call. After a moment’s hesitation, he sent a text instead.
He told her that he had successfully passed the talent recruitment assessment and would be coming to Binhai to work in about a month.
Yu Zhiming waited for a while, but when no reply came, he automatically entered his pre-sleep mode...
He once again heard a cacophony of sounds.
The loudest was the sound of his Fourth Sister and Xiaoxue next door, chattering back and forth.
Yu Zhiming shifted his focus to the room on the other side.
Someone was pacing back and forth...
After a short while, the image of the pacing person became three-dimensional and solid in his mind.
He was about 1.8 meters tall, with a rather burly build.
As the image formed, Yu Zhiming realized this was a new male guest, not the curvaceous woman from the previous night.
’Is he pacing back and forth because he’s anxiously waiting for a secret rendezvous, just like the guest upstairs last night?’
Yu Zhiming’s interest was piqued.
After observing for a few more minutes, he "saw" the man walk over to the floor-to-ceiling window and lie down flat.
’Lying down in front of the window?’
Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but feel confused.
’What the hell is this guy doing?’
’Some kind of weird quirk?’
Suddenly, a jolt went through Yu Zhiming.
In Yu Zhiming’s perception, the man’s prone posture in front of the window looked increasingly like...
...the posture of an assassin from a spy movie!
’Could it be?’
’It can’t be that much of a coincidence, can it? Am I really about to witness a spy assassination, something you only see in movies and hear about in stories?’
’The odds of that have to be incredibly small, right?’
’But what if it *is* real?’
’Call the police?’
’Or just pretend I didn’t see anything?’
After a brief but intense internal debate, Yu Zhiming, a patriotic and upstanding young man, decided to do his civic duty.
He picked up his phone and dialed 110.
When the call connected, Yu Zhiming said in a disguised, hoarse voice, "I have strong reason to suspect that someone is carrying out a spy assassination in room 1712 of the Youyou Grand Hotel."
"Please send someone to investigate immediately."
After saying this, Yu Zhiming immediately hung up.
The moment he ended the call, Yu Zhiming could feel his forehead break out in a sweat.
He wasn’t sure why he had disguised his voice to make the report, as if he were a secret agent passing on intelligence.
His mind in turmoil, Yu Zhiming could no longer maintain the virtual image of the room next door.
He got out of bed and paced around his room, listening for any sounds from the hallway.
After what felt like an agonizing ten minutes with still no unusual activity, Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but wonder.
’Maybe the police dismissed my call as a prank?’
Just then, footsteps suddenly sounded in the hallway.
Judging by the sound, there were as many as seven or eight people.
Yu Zhiming immediately went to his door, held his breath, and listened to what was happening outside...
Through his perception, he sensed seven people tiptoeing up to the door of room 1712.
The next moment, the door was suddenly thrown open...
"Don’t move! Police!"
At that moment, a panicked voice cried out, "You... You guys... I’m just a photographer..."
Hearing this, Yu Zhiming instantly realized he had completely misunderstood the situation and made a false report.
He was so embarrassed he wanted the floor to swallow him whole.
Yu Zhiming opened his door and saw a fully-armed police officer standing guard in front of the adjacent room.
The officer shot Yu Zhiming a sharp glance but didn’t order him back into his room.
Yu Zhiming waited a few more minutes and saw a middle-aged man with a mustache, about 1.8 meters tall, being led out of the room in handcuffs by two police officers and toward the elevators.
The sight made Yu Zhiming blurt out, "What did he do?"
Just then, another middle-aged police officer emerged from the room.
He stopped and looked at Yu Zhiming.
"Voyeurism and invasion of privacy. We found some indecent photos he took secretly on his camera."
"We need to take him in for further questioning."
Yu Zhiming was stunned.
’So it was a happy accident? I ended up getting a public menace taken care of anyway?’
Just then, he heard his phone ring and hurried back into his room.
It was a call from Su Tong...
"Zhiming, congratulations! Even back in university, I knew you would do something amazing one day."
"I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon. I’m so happy for you, and so proud."
"Thank you!"
After thanking her, Yu Zhiming suddenly remembered Teacher Qi’s advice to be more open and bold.
He took a deep breath and said, "Su Tong, there’s something I need to tell you."
"Back then... I planned to confess my feelings to you after I got into grad school."
There was silence on the other end of the line, but Yu Zhiming could clearly hear her slightly quickened breaths.
He spoke again, asking, "Does he treat you well?"
Su Tong’s voice finally came, slow and measured.
"Zhiming, back then, whether you got into grad school or not... if you had confessed, I would have said yes."
After another moment of silence, she continued, "Zhiming, the past is the past. It’s not coming back."
"He treats me very well, and we’ve already met each other’s parents."
Hearing this, Yu Zhiming was surprised to find that, aside from a sense of melancholy, he wasn’t as sad as he had imagined he would be.
In fact, he even felt a sense of relief.
"Su Tong, I wish you both the best..."
