Chapter 178: The Eye-catching Small Car
Chapter 178 -177: The Eye-catching Small Car
Qi Yue and Yu Zhiming had stepped into the Ge Family’s villa at 9:05 AM and left at 9:50 AM.
They rode in the same Mercedes-Benz luxury van. After Qi Yue politely declined, the person seeing them off was no longer Ge Yunlun, but the Ge Family’s butler.
They arrived at Capital Airport at 10:40 AM, but their flight back to Binhai wasn’t until almost noon.
They still had to wait in the departure lounge for nearly an hour.
The two found a pair of seats in a relatively quiet area and sat down.
Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but ask, “Teacher Qi, did you really need to rush back with me?”
Qi Yue smiled. “Coming back with you is only part of the reason. The important work I told the Ge Family I had this afternoon wasn’t something I made up—it’s real.”
“Most importantly, since our work at the Ge Family’s home is finished, there was no reason to linger.”
“We arrive in a flash and leave in a flash. ‘I flick my sleeves, not taking a single cloud with me.'”
“Zhiming, don’t you think that has the air of a true master?”
Yu Zhiming looked at the unconcealed, smug expression on Teacher Qi’s face and couldn’t help but feel amused.
‘Ah, so Teacher Qi just wanted to look cool.’
“‘To brush off your sleeves and depart once the deed is done’—the very picture of a master.”
Yu Zhiming praised him cooperatively, then made a money-counting gesture, feigning a greedy expression.
“Teacher Qi, Teacher Qi, did you deliberately refuse the consultation fee so that once they confirm our diagnosis was correct and the child is out of danger, they’ll be so thrilled they’ll cough up even more money?”
Qi Yue shot Yu Zhiming a sidelong glance.
“Am I such a shallow, money-grubbing person?”
After a moment’s pause, he huffed, “My goal is to make Ge Yunlun come to the hospital and make a big, dramatic show of presenting us with a commendatory banner.”
“I want everyone at the hospital to know that Qiu Yi is useless. Compared to you, Zhiming, he’s a steaming pile of dogshit.”
Seeing Teacher Qi beaming with joy, his expression animated with delight, Yu Zhiming was taken aback for a moment.
‘So Teacher Qi is still really bothered by that time Qiu Yi poached our patient. He’s really holding a grudge.’
‘He can be quite petty, can’t he?’
Having a teacher who was so true to himself, Yu Zhiming found himself liking him more and more. He felt truly fortunate.
Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but get a little cocky himself. “So many medical experts couldn’t diagnose that child’s condition for years, but we nailed it in less than twenty minutes.”
“Teacher Qi, do you think legends or myths about us will start circulating in the medical community now?”
Qi Yue let out a hearty laugh, but his smile faded just as quickly.
“A case this bizarre will certainly make the rounds. But legends about us? Not necessarily.”
“So many medical experts failed to diagnose the real problem, yet we solved it with ease…”
Qi Yue’s tone turned sarcastic. “Those so-called experts have plenty of protégés, students, and old colleagues. When they discuss this case, they’ll deliberately downplay our contribution.”
“They might not even mention our names at all.”
Yu Zhiming nodded in understanding.
‘The medical world is hardly a paradise. The competition and backstabbing among peers are just as intense…’
Riding the high of their success, the master and student chatted for a while longer about the child’s case and subsequent treatment plans.
Then, they each took out their phones to make arrangements for the afternoon.
Yu Zhiming first called his Fourth Sister to report on his trip to the Capital City, then dialed Zhou Mo.
He spent the first part of the call energetically bragging about his diagnostic process before giving Zhou Mo some instructions…
Before she went to the Furong Women’s Beauty Salon, she needed to remember to stop by the hospital’s gynecology department and borrow a female anatomical model used for teaching.
When Yu Zhiming finished his call with Zhou Mo and sat back down beside Teacher Qi, he saw his mentor staring hesitantly at a phone number on his screen.
“Teacher Qi, having trouble making the call?”
“Want me to do it for you?”
Qi Yue put his phone away with a soft sigh. “It’s my eldest son’s number. He works right here in the Capital City.”
“Our relationship is… well, a bit strained.”
Yu Zhiming let out a soft “oh” as if he understood. He had no idea how to offer advice on something like this, so he simply remained quiet.
‘This teacher of his had three ex-wives and five children from those marriages.’
‘Just a moment’s thought was enough to realize his teacher’s family life must be incredibly complicated…’
Suddenly, as if he had eyes in the back of his head, Yu Zhiming shot his hand out to shield the area behind Teacher Qi.
The next moment, a small, colorful rubber ball came flying over, smacking right into his hand.
The ball wasn’t heavy, and it wasn’t moving fast. There was little force behind it, so Yu Zhiming felt no pain.
Then, Yu Zhiming saw a young woman run over, chasing a five- or six-year-old boy. She apologized profusely as she bent down to pick up the ball.
Yu Zhiming gave the woman a friendly smile, letting the matter go.
A moment later, as if drawn by some instinct, he turned his head to look forward and to his left.
His gaze met that of an elegant woman in her forties, standing seven or eight meters away.
They held each other’s gaze for a moment, exchanged faint smiles, and then looked away.
“Zhiming, do you know her?”
Yu Zhiming shook his head. “She just looks a little familiar, and I get a friendly vibe from her. Maybe I’ve seen her somewhere before.”
Qi Yue said, “Oh,” then pointed to a shop nearby selling Capital City specialties.
“We’re leaving in a bit of a rush, but do you want to go over there and buy some local gifts for your friends and family?”
Yu Zhiming shook his head so hard it was almost a blur.
“Everything at the airport is ridiculously expensive. I’m not about to waste my money like that.”
“My sister wouldn’t care about that stuff anyway.”
Qi Yue chuckled. “Your sister might not care, but what about that young lady from the Gu Family?”
“Gu Qingning?”
Yu Zhiming was about to ask, “Why would I buy her anything?” but then he remembered how she had gotten up after three in the morning, yawning nonstop, just to make him that seaweed and egg drop soup with dried shrimp.
‘One good turn deserves another, after all!’
With that in mind, Yu Zhiming got up with a sigh and went to the specialty shop, where he spent several hundred yuan on two boxes of so-called “imperial court pastries.”
One box for his Fourth Sister, and one for Gu Qingning.
‘That small pot of seaweed soup turned out to be quite expensive…’
Yu Zhiming and Qi Yue’s flight landed at Binhai International Airport at 1:30 PM.
Yu Zhiming got back to his empty apartment in Zijin Garden at nearly 3:00 PM.
He rested at home for over half an hour, then went downstairs, left his residential complex, and headed to the intersection to wait for Zhou Mo to pick him up.
According to his prior arrangement with the Furong Club, he was scheduled to give a health education talk at the club from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.
From 6:00 to 7:30 PM was dinner.
And from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, physical examinations!
After waiting for five or six minutes, Yu Zhiming’s eyes suddenly widened.
An exceptionally eye-catching MINI Cooper was driving determinedly toward him.
It wasn’t the car itself, but what was on it: a life-sized anatomical model wearing a white lab coat, strapped to the roof.
The white coat fluttered and danced in the wind.
Combined with the mannequin’s long, slender, pale legs, it was inevitable that passersby would let their imaginations run wild.
Yu Zhiming could already see several pedestrians staring at the car in astonishment.
The car pulled to a stop in front of him.
Yu Zhiming could feel the eyes of the people around him, and his face began to burn with embarrassment.
He jumped into the car as fast as he could and chided, “Zhou Mo, what is going on? Strapping the model to the roof is way too conspicuous! People are going to think it’s an inflatable… doll.”
Zhou Mo’s face was a mask of misery as she explained her predicament.
“Dr. Yu, I had no other choice!”
“This model is huge and heavy as lead! It doesn’t bend, and my car is too small to fit it inside. This was the only way I could get it here.”
Yu Zhiming sighed. “Just drive. Get us out of here. Hey, do you have a face mask?”
“The last thing I need is to be recognized on the road like this…”
