Chapter 169 -168: Got Paid

The next morning, Yu Zhiming was eating breakfast at home when he received a call from Qi Yue.

He was told that after a night of observation, Mr. Shen’s condition was stable, with no obvious signs of intracranial bleeding.

Their radioactive seed implantation surgery was a success.

“Zhiming, Doctor You also specifically told me that he slept with the lights and the TV on last night. Even so, he was plagued by nightmares.”

“He said he was genuinely terrified by the suffocating silence of the utter darkness.”

Yu Zhiming chuckled. “One man’s poison is another man’s honey. I, for one, quite enjoy it.”

“Professor, if I get rich, I’m going to build an underground villa to live in, something like a bunker.”

Qi Yue laughed over the phone and continued, “Doctor You said he won’t be able to help you with today’s surgery.”

“He’d have a complete breakdown if he had to go through last night’s harsh environment again.”

Yu Zhiming smiled. “Luo Qing’s puncture surgery is relatively simpler. There’s a ready-made puncture path, so I don’t need Doctor You’s assistance.”

“Professor, you don’t need to come either. I can handle it by myself.”

Qi Yue chuckled in reply, “I’m definitely going!”

“I’m very curious to experience the absolute darkness and silence that triggered Doctor You’s phobia and nearly drove him mad…”

Yu Zhiming put down his phone and looked at Yu Xinyue, who was staring blankly at her bowl of congee. “Third Sister, no appetite?”

Yu Xinyue shot him a glare and huffed, “You got back after two in the morning, then you dragged me out of bed at six. Who the hell would have an appetite?”

“All I want to do right now is sleep! I need to sleep!”

Yu Zhiming put on a concerned look. “Third Sister, you’re thirty-six now. You need to start taking care of your health.”

“How can you still be out partying until the middle of the night like a young person?”

He then turned to Yu Xiangwan and Gu Qingning, who were eating quietly with their heads down, and criticized them sternly, “Work during the day, rest at night. This is the natural rhythm we should follow.”

“Do you want to age prematurely and end up with a face full of wrinkles?”

Yu Xiangwan looked up with a placating smile. “Fifth Brother, it’s just that Third Sister rarely gets to visit Binhai, so we wanted to show her the nightlife in this big international city.”

“We were planning to be back before eleven, but Third Sister was having so much fun she forgot all about the time. We couldn’t drag her away…”

‘What? You couldn’t drag *me* away…?’

Yu Xinyue was about to retort but felt Lao Si’s hand on her thigh, shaking insistently.

She lowered her head and said, “Fifth Brother, it was me. I’d never seen such a bustling nightscape before, and I just got carried away.”

“It’s not Lao Si and Qingning’s fault at all. If you’re going to blame someone, blame me. Don’t blame them.”

Yu Zhiming grunted in acknowledgment and criticized her again, “Third Sister, you’re a mother of two. You should know some self-control.”

“Hey, have you decided when you’re going back?”

Yu Xinyue pinched the back of Yu Xiangwan’s hand and replied with a light laugh, “Tomorrow morning’s high-speed train.”

“I won’t go out today. Eldest Sister also told me to make a big batch of dumplings for you.”

“Fifth Brother, I’ll cook you a huge feast tonight.”

Yu Zhiming smiled back. “Third Sister, don’t trouble yourself. I have a surgery tonight and probably won’t be back until after ten.”

“Today, just let Fourth Sister take you to the mall. Since you came all the way to Binhai, you should at least buy some gifts to take back…”

Luo Qing’s optic nerve puncture surgery was scheduled for that night.

During the day, Yu Zhiming still had to hurry to the hospital for work.

Moreover, he was especially looking forward to this day and wished time would pass more quickly.

Today was September 6th, the usual payday at Huashan Hospital.

Receiving his first paycheck since coming to Binhai—a high salary he had calculated in his head many times—it would be a lie to say Yu Zhiming wasn’t excited.

Filled with anticipation, at 9:39 in the morning, Yu Zhiming finally received a text notification from his bank.

The text informed him that a sum of 46,300 yuan had been transferred into his bank account.

This startled Yu Zhiming, and he quickly opened his banking app to check.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the source of the transfer.

It was last month’s payment from Ning’an Hospital.

The base expert fee was 10,000, the physical exam fee was 10,000, and the remaining twenty-six thousand-plus must be the compensation for adjusting the fetal position.

This payment from Ning’an Hospital was a pleasant surprise for Yu Zhiming.

He had originally expected it to be only around 30,000.

At 10:16 AM, Yu Zhiming finally received the bank notification he had been waiting for.

His bank account had received a transfer of 91,823.53 yuan.

This amount also exceeded Yu Zhiming’s estimate; he had originally figured it would be around 80,000.

He quickly took out his tablet, went to his personal page, and tapped on “Salary and Benefits.” Sure enough, he saw a new message.

It was his income statement for the previous month.

Yu Zhiming tapped to open the statement and was surprised to see it was quite long, with at least twenty or thirty line items.

He scanned the main items first…

Base Salary, Attending Physician: 6,000.

Talent Introduction Allowance: 20,000.

Physical Examination Subsidy: 18,350.

Qi Yue Medical Research Center: Work Hours 8,500, Project Subsidy 10,000, Bonus 25,000.

Seeing the income figures from the Center, Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed. He hadn’t done much work at the Center last month.

The next biggest chunk was his income from the outpatient and emergency departments, which came to over 20,000 yuan.

There was also income from the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, which was over 10,000.

In addition, there were several other payments of one or two thousand yuan each from Neurosurgery, the Cardiopulmonary Department, and General Surgery.

Yu Zhiming scrolled through the details of these payments and discovered they were compensation for the few times he’d been called in to help with small matters.

This moved him.

‘Major hospitals are really meticulous about this sort of thing. Every bit of work gets its due reward.’

There were also subsidies for lunch, transportation, and high temperatures, each amounting to a few hundred yuan.

Yu Zhiming also saw a house call payment of 600 yuan.

He thought for a moment; it must have been for the house call to the Wei Family.

Adding up all these miscellaneous earnings and then subtracting insurance, provident fund, and personal income tax, his actual take-home pay was just over 90,000.

‘Haha, payday! I’m rich…’

“Dr. Yu, you’re smiling so happily. Did you get a nice paycheck last month?”

Yu Zhiming chuckled, put his tablet away, and looked at Zhou Mo, who had approached him. “It’s alright, it’s alright. A bit more than I expected.”

“Hey, Zhou Mo, you participate in the physical exams every time. Is that income reflected in your salary?”

Zhou Mo’s eyes darted playfully as she asked with a wide smile, “Dr. Yu, are you planning to give me a bonus yourself?”

Yu Zhiming said thoughtfully, “Zhou Mo, if the hospital doesn’t compensate you for your work on the physical exams, then I should be the one to pay you for that labor.”

“After all, I get a subsidy of fifty yuan per person.”

Zhou Mo pressed on, “So, Dr. Yu, how much are you planning to give me?”

Yu Zhiming calculated out loud, “Last month, that was two Fridays, and one Saturday which counts as two workdays…”

“How about this, I’ll give you a subsidy of eight hundred per day?”

Zhou Mo giggled. “Dr. Yu, you’re much more generous than the hospital. The hospital only gives me a subsidy of three hundred and sixty a day.”

“Dr. Yu, hand it over!”

Yu Zhiming lightly tapped Zhou Mo’s small hand. “So the hospital does pay you. Then there’s no need for me to pay out of my own pocket.”

“I’ll treat you to a big meal some other day to show my appreciation. That should be enough.”

Zhou Mo pressed her advantage. “Dr. Yu, I know what ‘some other day’ really means. It means ‘never.'”

“If you really want to treat me, then set a date.”

‘Well…’

Yu Zhiming thought for a moment and said, “How about this? I’m going to Furong Beauty Salon on Sunday, and I still need a female assistant.”

“If you’re willing, I’ll take you with me. I’ll pay you eight hundred, plus you can join me for a big meal.”

“Deal!”

Zhou Mo held up her hand. “Let’s high-five to seal it…”
