Chapter 164 -163: Dr. Yu Is So Scary When He’s Angry

After dinner, Qi Yue, Gu Qingran, and the Yu Family Siblings chatted casually for another half an hour before taking their leave.

Unable to resist the hospitality, Qi Yue even packed up Yu Zhiming’s entire stock of dumplings from the freezer, using a foam box and ice packs.

This earned him a look of disdain from Gu Qingran.

“Seriously?”

“You’re a renowned medical expert. You can eat your fill of dumplings stuffed with shark fin and lobster, yet you’re acting this desperate for a few snacks?”

Qi Yue retorted, full of self-righteousness, “Nothing beats a home-cooked meal. The important thing is that these dumplings taste like home to me.”

“And you know my wife isn’t great at making anything with dough.”

Gu Qingran huffed and got into Qi Yue’s new electric Cayenne.

“Should I take you straight home? Or drop you at the hospital so you can drive your own car home?”

“Take me back to the hospital!”

Gu Qingran replied, then added with a soft chuckle, “Yu the Kid is one hundred percent trustworthy. This whole trip was a waste.”

As he started the car, Qi Yue said sarcastically, “How can you say it was a waste?”

“If we hadn’t made this trip, I never would’ve found out you were willing to sell out your own sister.”

“Gu Qingran, you really are willing to put up some serious capital.”

Gu Qingran gave a sly laugh, then his expression turned serious. “This isn’t a sacrifice. This is making the first move to gain an advantage.”

“Yu the Kid is handsome, talented, and has a reliable character. With such a promising young man in front of me, of course I’d think of my Qingning.”

Qi Yue scoffed. “Gu Qingran, let me remind you, your sister was pampered her whole life.”

“And while my student may not come from a wealthy family, he was also doted on by his parents and four older sisters his entire childhood.”

“The two of them might not be a good match.”

“I mean, who’s going to take care of whom? In a marriage, one person always has to put in more effort.”

“Your Qingning isn’t the type to be serving tea and making the bed. My student doesn’t have time for such menial household tasks, and it’s not his place to do them anyway.”

Gu Qingran disagreed. “Comrade Lao Qi, your thinking is a bit outdated, you know.”

“These days, for a couple to get along, one partner’s contributions don’t have to involve slaving away in the kitchen.”

“With modern appliances and housekeeping services, as long as you have each other in your hearts—and have the money—the affection is there, and so is the care.”

“My Qingning is quite thoughtful, not to mention she isn’t short on cash. And Yu the Kid won’t be lacking for money in the future, either.”

Qi Yue snorted. “That’s the mindset of the nouveau riche. Money isn’t everything, especially not in matters of the heart.”

Gu Qingran smiled faintly and sighed. “Whether or not they end up together, this won’t be a bad thing for Qingning.”

“A life without a deep, unforgettable love is an incomplete one.”

“I hope that Yu the Kid will become that unforgettable person in Qingning’s romantic life.”

“Of course, what I hope for most is that they’ll find happiness together.”

Qi Yue asked probingly, “Gu Qingran, your marriage was a failure, and now you live like a playboy. Is it because that unforgettable person from your past was a terrible woman?”

Suddenly, Gu Qingran had no desire to talk to this old geezer anymore.

Seeing that Qi Yue was about to speak again, he quickly changed the subject. “How’s the data collection for the narcolepsy patients coming along?”

“Huayu Technology has already finished the blueprints for the prototype. They’re just waiting on your data.”

Qi Yue let out a soft scoff. “We’re not even close.”

“Right now, we’ve only collected complete data on thirty people. We need at least three hundred before we can move forward.”

After a moment’s pause, Qi Yue added, “I review the data we collect every day, and I’m already forming some ideas.”

“But to be prudent, we need more monitoring data from a larger sample size to verify them.”

Gu Qingran murmured an “Oh.”

After a moment of silence, Qi Yue spoke again. “Your Ning’an Shares hit their daily upper limit again today.”

“The talk on the street is that your Ning’an Group is going to invest heavily in a nationwide, ultra-early cancer screening business.”

“Are you starting the hype already?”

Gu Qingran said slowly, “The Group is using the hype around this project to pump up the stock price.”

“From what I understand, the Group has a few debts coming due, so they’re pumping the stock to engage in some capital maneuvering.”

After a few seconds’ pause, Gu Qingran’s voice turned serious. “But the ultra-early cancer screening project is, indeed, one of the Group’s key strategic directions for the future.”

“If I hadn’t been able to persuade those bigwigs at the Group, do you think they’d be committing to this project with their full support?”

“So, more than Academicians Zhang and Tan, it’s Ning’an Group and I who are most concerned with this project’s progress.”

Gu Qingran’s tone turned icy. “I’m going to get to the bottom of the matter with that Dr. Zhang Rui and the previous sexual assault allegation.”

“Messing with Yu the Kid is the same as messing with Ning’an Hospital, with the future of the Ning’an Group. I’d like to see just who the hell is pulling the strings behind the scenes…”

Tuesday arrived as expected, and Yu Zhiming began a new day.

Upon arriving at the hospital, he first went to check on the condition of the kidney patient.

Yu Zhiming found that after nearly a week of recovery, the patient’s kidney function had improved significantly, enough to meet the criteria for discharge. He could now rest at home and receive regular treatment at a community clinic.

However, this didn’t bring Yu Zhiming much joy.

When it came to this patient’s treatment, Yu Zhiming had merely acted as a middleman.

The treatment plan had come from Expert Tian of the nephrology department, and the one time the prescription was adjusted, it had also been under Expert Tian’s guidance.

To see things through to the end, Yu Zhiming trotted over to the nephrology department to consult Expert Tian about the patient’s post-discharge treatment and recovery plan.

Around 5:00 PM, Yu Zhiming returned to the examination room to find a line of fifty people already formed outside.

After a moment of preparation, he began to multitask, examining each person’s stomach and liver simultaneously.

His efficiency was off the charts—just over a minute per person.

One after another after another…

When he got to the twelfth person, Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but let out a surprised, “Hmm?”

He then spent the next three or four minutes—if not longer—repeatedly patting and pressing the stomach and liver of the thirty-nine-year-old square-faced man.

Yu Zhiming’s unusual actions terrified the square-faced man. His already dark complexion turned ashen, as pale as a sheet of paper.

“Doc… Doctor… Do I have cancer? I have a family to support, elders and children… I can’t get cancer.”

Yu Zhiming pulled back his hands, met the man’s gaze, and stared intently at his face for a moment.

“You don’t have cancer. You just have a fatty liver. You’ll need to pay more attention to your lifestyle from now on!”

“I really don’t have cancer?” the man asked, still in disbelief.

An impatient look crossed Yu Zhiming’s face. “I said you don’t have cancer, so you don’t have cancer. Now hurry up and go.”

He then yelled toward the door, “Next!”

After that, Yu Zhiming’s work returned to normal, but his efficiency had dropped slightly.

It had fallen to an average of one minute and forty-some seconds per person.

A little after 6:30 PM, Yu Zhiming finally finished examining all fifty people for the day.

Zhou Mo, who was assisting him, gave an exaggerated stretch. She was about to say something to Yu Zhiming with a smile when she noticed his expression was terrifyingly dark.

It was as if someone had pushed him past his breaking point.

Zhou Mo quickly lowered her head and pretended to be busy with her work. Only after Yu Zhiming had left the examination room did she dare to look up and pat her chest in relief.

‘Dr. Yu is so scary when he’s angry.’

‘But why did he get angry all of a sudden?’

With this thought, Zhou Mo quickly left the examination room. Tiptoeing, she followed behind Yu Zhiming…

She saw him push open the door to the director’s office and walk straight in without even knocking.

‘Did the director make Dr. Yu angry?’ Zhou Mo’s jaw dropped in surprise.

「In the Director’s Office」

Qi Yue was studying some scans on a light box when he turned to see Yu Zhiming storming in, his face livid with anger.

“Zhiming, what’s going on?”

“Teacher, you don’t trust me?”

Yu Zhiming cut him off with a question, then pressed on. “When you and Dean Gu came to my house yesterday, you weren’t just ‘dropping by,’ were you? You came specifically to interrogate me.”

“Isn’t that right?”

Before Qi Yue could respond, Yu Zhiming continued, “I examine people very quickly. It’s true I don’t have time to look at their faces, nor is there any need to.”

“But I recognize their stomachs and their livers.”

“Numbers twelve, seventeen, thirty-one, thirty-two, forty-four, and forty-eight from today’s group—I examined all of them yesterday.”

Yu Zhiming was practically incandescent with rage. “I examined them yesterday, and you had them come back again today. What is the meaning of this?”

“You’re making it perfectly clear that you don’t trust me!”
