Chapter 137 - 136: Mind Reading Skill
Chapter 137: Chapter 136: Mind Reading Skill
On Sunday morning, at nearly eight o’clock, Fu Xiaoxue was pestering Yu Zhiming to show Zeng Yan his special skills after breakfast.
Point and shoot, a bullseye every time!
Last night, after going out for karaoke, Yu Xiangwan had brought Fu Xiaoxue and Zeng Yan back to her place in Zijin Garden, where they all crammed in for the night.
As for Fu Xiaobo, he had returned to the construction site in the suburbs overnight...
Luckily, Gu Qingning’s dartboard was still there. With a few swift flicks of his left and right hands, Yu Zhiming used the darts to show the two young girls a move worthy of Xiaoli’s Flying Knife, a technique that never missed its mark.
This sent Zeng Yan into a fit of excited squeals.
Eager to show him off more, Fu Xiaoxue chimed in, "Uncle, Uncle, do the Mind Reading Skill again! The one you used to trick me out of so many snacks when I was a kid."
Yu Zhiming corrected her with a straight face, "Xiaoxue, that wasn’t trickery. Those were my hard-earned wages."
"Xiaoxue, what Mind Reading Skill?" Gu Qingning asked, her curiosity piqued.
Fu Xiaoxue explained excitedly, "You write some random numbers on a piece of paper, and my uncle can guess them even while he’s blindfolded."
Zeng Yan and Gu Qingning were skeptical and decided to test it on the spot.
One of them kept a close eye on Yu Zhiming to make sure he didn’t peek, while the other secretly wrote numbers on a piece of paper.
They tested him four times this way, and each time, Yu Zhiming correctly stated the numbers written on the paper.
"Zhiming, you’re actually figuring it out by listening, aren’t you?" Gu Qingning guessed.
Yu Zhiming nodded.
He was indeed relying on his hearing, picking up on Gu Qingning and Zeng Yan’s hand movements and the trajectory of the pen tip as it moved across the paper.
"Uncle, you’re so incredible! You’re practically a god!"
Looking completely amazed, Zeng Yan asked expectantly, "Uncle, can you tell what words we’re writing, too?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head. "Characters have too many strokes. The movements are too complex, so it’s easy to make a mistake."
Gu Qingning chuckled. "Zhiming, if you used this trick to get a girl’s phone number, you’d succeed every single time."
Fu Xiaoxue lifted her chin and said smugly, "My uncle doesn’t need to resort to tricks to get a girl’s number."
"With my uncle’s handsome looks that everyone loves, one glance is more than enough."
"I think so too," Zeng Yan agreed wholeheartedly.
Gu Qingning rolled her eyes. "You two, don’t assume all women are that boy-crazy."
"A woman has to be modest, you know?"
Fu Xiaoxue went and linked her arm with Yu Zhiming’s, giggling. "Sister Qingning, if you’re too modest..."
"A great catch like my uncle, who’s both handsome and talented, will get snatched up by someone else."
Yu Zhiming flicked Fu Xiaoxue on the forehead and changed the subject. "It’s about time. Everyone, hurry and get ready. We’re going to buy a car..."
The car models the Yu Family Siblings had picked out were all top-selling models from major brands.
The dealerships and car sales companies all had them in stock.
Yu Zhiming’s method for choosing a car was quite simple: get in, start the engine, close the door, and just listen quietly.
He wanted to choose the car with the least amount of noise, the one in which all the various sounds were the most harmonious.
Some cars, due to assembly issues, had parts or accessories that weren’t properly fastened. With the engine’s vibration, they would emit strange rattling or scraping noises.
Most people couldn’t hear these sounds, but Yu Zhiming could hear them with perfect clarity, and they were exceptionally grating to his ears...
Across three dealerships and one car sales company, Yu Zhiming listened to a total of twenty-six cars before finally choosing one whose various sounds were relatively easy on the ears.
A Mercedes-Benz GLC 260.
Once Yu Zhiming had selected the car, the next step was to negotiate the price and purchase it from the dealership.
Since Yu Zhiming had money now and was choosing to pay in full, the purchase price needed to be renegotiated...
Naturally, a small matter like this didn’t require Yu Zhiming’s attention; Yu Xiangwan and Gu Qingning could handle it.
All he had to do was sit in the VIP lounge with Fu Xiaoxue and Zeng Yan, eat the snacks the dealership provided, and wait.
While he was waiting, he received a call from Teacher Qi.
"Zhiming, you just can’t seem to go a while without causing some huge stir, can you? It’s like you get restless otherwise."
Yu Zhiming could clearly tell from his voice that Teacher Qi wasn’t angry or displeased. In fact, he sounded quite pleased.
He chuckled. "Teacher, it’s not like I want everything I do to become a hot topic online."
"What happened last night was just a coincidence."
"Besides, the situation was urgent. I acted on instinct in the heat of the moment; I didn’t have time to overthink it."
Qi Yue chuckled over the phone. "I spoke with that Doctor Lu who was on duty in the emergency department last night."
"He said you handled the situation very promptly and decisively."
"About a quarter of the patient’s gastric mucosa was severely damaged, and he was on the verge of a gastric perforation."
"If you had delayed even a moment longer, it’s hard to say what the consequences for that fellow would have been."
After a brief pause, Qi Yue chuckled again. "Yesterday, I received a lot of calls about Qiu Yi poaching that patient, all telling me not to be angry."
"This morning, I’ve received even more calls, all congratulating me for taking on such a good student."
"You completely stole all the thunder from Qiu Yi’s return and crushed it!"
"Zhiming, well done!"
Yu Zhiming chuckled. "I suppose it was a happy accident. I really didn’t expect to encounter such a bizarre patient last night."
Qi Yue laughed as well. "Indeed. The case is truly peculiar and rare. A textbook example of someone bringing about their own misfortune."
"Combine that with your unorthodox and shocking method of treatment, and it’s enough to be a hot topic for quite some time."
Qi Yue added, "I just asked. The guy only has a low-grade fever, and there are no signs of a serious infection."
"So, it looks like he’s cleared the hurdle of a potential infection..."
After hanging up with Teacher Qi, Yu Zhiming waited for another ten-plus minutes before he got word that they had settled on a price for the car.
They had gotten a considerable discount, settling on a total price of nearly 430,000.
They also received several complimentary accessories and decorative items, as well as twenty free washes at a partner car wash.
Yu Zhiming learned from his sister that the price they got was nearly ten thousand cheaper than what others usually paid.
The price for the discount was that Yu Zhiming, his identity now public, was treated like a celebrity by the car sales company and had to pose for multiple photos with the manager and some incredibly enthusiastic employees.
During the photo session, Yu Zhiming happened to notice a man in his thirties who kept frowning and periodically tapping the left side of his head with a finger.
"Headache?"
A professional smile instantly appeared on the man’s face. "My kid has been crying a lot the past few days, sometimes for half the night. I haven’t been sleeping well, so I have a bit of a headache."
Yu Zhiming said, "Oh," and gestured with his hand.
"Since I was the one who asked, would you mind if I checked out that headache for you?"
The man beamed. "Why would I mind? You’re the famous Life and Death Hand! I’d be thrilled."
"Thank you for the trouble, Dr. Yu."
"Do I need to lie down?"
"No need!"
As he spoke, Yu Zhiming placed his hand on the man’s left forehead, probing the blood flow within his brain.
Half a minute later, Yu Zhiming withdrew his hand.
He said with a serious expression, "The blockage in your cerebral blood vessels is quite severe. Some vessels show stenosis of over fifty percent."
"To put it simply, you’re at a high risk for a stroke."
"Your headaches aren’t just from lack of sleep; they’re likely also caused by cerebral ischemia."
"I suggest you go to the hospital for a detailed cerebral angiogram and undergo treatment to clear the blockage..."
By the time they had sorted out the purchase and insurance paperwork and affixed the temporary license plates, it was already a little past noon when Yu Zhiming and his group drove the new car away from the sales company.
They first found a restaurant to have lunch, then drove Zeng Yan back to her university, which was quite far.
At a fruit shop near Binhai Aquatic University, Yu Zhiming once again used his inspection technique to pick out the durian with the most fruit from a pile of ten or twenty.
This was because Fu Xiaoxue had mentioned that Zeng Yan loved durian, and that her uncle was the absolute best at picking out durians and watermelons...
After dropping Fu Xiaoxue back at her university, it was nearly five in the afternoon by the time Yu Zhiming and the others returned to the apartment in Zijin Garden.
Upon returning to the apartment, Yu Zhiming received a call from an unfamiliar number from the Capital City.
The caller introduced himself as the attorney for the superstar Rao Yi, stating that he had an important matter to discuss with him in person.
Yu Zhiming ended the call with a puzzled expression. "My number isn’t public. How can just anyone get ahold of me?"
