Chapter 101: Chapter 101: One Mountain Cannot Contain Two Tigers

On the bike ride home, Yu Zhiming had a sudden, belated realization.

That young man was actually Nurse Chief Yan Wenjing’s son.

The problem was, he was pursuing Zhou Mo?!

After all, at the party on the very night Yu Zhiming started at the hospital, Nurse Chief Yan had subtly reminded him.

Zhou Mo and Teacher Qi might have a special relationship.

’Could it be that Nurse Chief Yan’s son is still in a rebellious phase?’

’Or maybe, that guy is just so infatuated with Zhou Mo that he’s ignoring everything else...’

When Yu Zhiming returned to his apartment in Zijin Garden, he found his Eldest Sister and Fourth Sister had prepared a table laden with home-cooked dishes, waiting only for him to arrive to begin the meal.

’And yes, the ever-clingy Gu Qingning was there, too.’

Yu Zhaoxia ladled a bowl of meatball soup for Yu Zhiming and made a point of saying, "Fifth Brother, Qingning took the day off today. She spent the whole day taking me and your Fourth Sister around Binhai, treating us to food, drinks, and fun."

"After I go back home, you’d better not give her a hard time. If I find out you did, I won’t let you off easy."

Yu Zhiming glanced at the girl. She was putting on a show of eating demurely, but her ears were clearly perked up to listen.

"Eldest Sister, as long as *someone* doesn’t start anything with me, I won’t go looking for trouble."

"If I had that kind of spare time, I’d rather be studying a few more cases!"

As he said this, he even gave Gu Qingning a pointed look.

She simply kept up her ladylike appearance, enjoying her meal with gusto, as if he wasn’t referring to her at all.

Seeing that her Fifth Brother was still so clueless, Yu Zhaoxia felt quite frustrated. She changed the subject, saying, "They figured out what’s wrong with Er Xiaozi. The test results are in. See for yourself."

Yu Zhiming took his eldest sister’s phone and looked at a photo of a diagnostic report on the screen.

After zooming in to get a better look, Yu Zhiming understood.

The blood Er Xiaozi had been spitting up was, in fact, from a nosebleed. The source was Kiesselbach’s plexus on the posterior lateral wall of the nasal cavity.

The cause was a peculiar congenital anatomical defect.

The boy had a minor structural defect at the junction of his nasopharynx and oral cavity, which had resulted in post-nasal drip syndrome.

This not only positioned Er Xiaozi’s Kiesselbach’s plexus closer to his oral cavity, but it also meant that mucus from his nose frequently dripped into his mouth.

Yu Zhaoxia continued, "Third Aunt Qin said Doctor Nie told them it’s just a minor physiological problem."

"It doesn’t really affect his quality of life, so it doesn’t require treatment."

Yu Zhiming handed the phone back to his eldest sister and nodded. "Doctor Nie’s recommendation is very reasonable."

"Treating it would require surgery."

"And while this corrective surgery isn’t a major one, the county hospital isn’t equipped to perform it. They’d have to go to a large city hospital."

"Even at a major hospital, it’s not easy to perform the surgery perfectly."

Yu Zhiming added with a touch of schadenfreude, "Constantly swallowing his own snot is harmless, it saves on tissues, and besides, Er Xiaozi is already used to it."

"It’s better to leave well enough alone. They should just let it be..."

After dinner, at his eldest sister’s request, Yu Zhiming had to play several tunes on the erhu to help everyone digest before he was finally permitted to return to his bedroom to read and study.

Yu Zhiming had just sat down at his desk and pulled out a hefty medical tome in its original language to read when he heard his phone chime with a notification.

He opened his phone and was surprised to see a picture of a handsome guy sent by Ding Ye.

The handsome guy in the photo had bold, sharp brows, large eyes, and a bright, sunny look, his face lit up with a charming smile.

"Your boyfriend?" Yu Zhiming typed back casually.

"You mean you don’t recognize him???"

Yu Zhiming saw that her reply was followed by several shocked emojis.

He looked at the handsome guy’s picture again.

This time, he did feel a sense of familiarity...

Suddenly, it clicked for Yu Zhiming.

’Oh, right! Isn’t this the young doctor from the promotional photos on the Huashan Hospital website!’

"So he’s a real person."

"And he’s a doctor at our hospital? I thought the hospital hired a model for the promotional photos."

A moment later, a reply from Ding Ye came through.

"Dr. Yu, you’re really living under a rock. How can you not know someone so famous?"

The next moment, Ding Ye started a voice call with him.

Yu Zhiming answered it.

"Dr. Yu, you really don’t know who he is?"

"Do I have any reason to lie to you?" Yu Zhiming replied offhandedly.

Ding Ye replied meaningfully, "You really don’t? Hmm, well, I guess that’s to be expected."

"Perhaps it’s a case of ’one mountain can’t hold two tigers,’ so you subconsciously don’t want to know about him."

She didn’t leave him hanging. Before Yu Zhiming could even ask, she went on to explain, "Dr. Yu, before you came to Huashan Hospital, he was the star of our hospital. He was even called the number one young doctor."

"He’s a second-generation doctor from a family with a profound medical background."

"To be precise, third-generation. His family is incredibly well-connected."

"His grandfather was an academician of the Academy of Engineering at our hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away the year before last at the age of seventy-two."

"His father, on the other hand, is less impressive."

"Right now, he’s just an Associate Chief Physician in the hematology department. Rumor is, it’s unlikely he’ll be promoted to Chief Physician before he retires."

"This guy, though, is on another level."

"He enrolled in Binhai Medical College at sixteen and gave a speech at the opening ceremony as the freshman representative."

"Then, when he graduated with his Ph.D. in clinical medicine at twenty-four, he once again gave a speech, this time as the representative for the outstanding graduates."

"While he was still a student, he published three highly acclaimed medical papers in top international medical journals."

"He basically won every type of scholarship and honor a student could get."

"Dr. Yu, let me put it this way: he’s an absolute genius, a true academic superstar."

Ding Ye continued without pausing, "After he started working at our hospital, he was constantly making headlines."

"Whether it was publishing another paper, pulling a patient back from the brink of death, or helping a director solve a major research problem—you name it. He’s the kind of guy who seems to have plot armor."

"Dr. Yu, the stir he caused back in the day wasn’t much less than the one you’re causing now."

Yu Zhiming chuckled. "He was probably better, actually. Everything I’m kicking up now is just controversy."

"He got nothing but positive press. I can’t compete with that."

After a brief pause, Yu Zhiming asked, "Dr. Ding, where is this guy now?"

"He didn’t quit and go to another hospital, did he?"

"For someone so famous, I’ve been at the hospital for over half a month now. It’s impossible that nobody’s mentioned him, right?"

Ding Ye laughed and replied, "He didn’t quit. He went to Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States for a one-year fellowship."

"Rumor has it, he’s due back in the country at the end of the month or early next month."

"Dr. Yu, I have to give you a heads-up. You should be careful around him!"

"Careful?"

Yu Zhiming asked pensively, "Why do I need to be careful of him?"

"I’m not worried about him stealing my thunder."

"I’m in the spotlight a bit too much right now. I need to lie low and focus on my work. I’d be thrilled if someone else became the new center of attention."

Ding Ye continued to warn him over the phone, "Dr. Yu, the problem is that you might feel that way, but someone else might not."

"As a person... how should I put it... he seems kind and approachable on the surface, but I get the feeling it’s a condescending sort of affability. Anyway, he makes me feel uncomfortable."

"And most importantly..."

Ding Ye dropped another bombshell. "I once heard that this guy was interested in studying under Director Qi."

"If that rumor is true, Dr. Yu, then considering you’re now Director Qi’s student—and his final disciple at that..."

"That’s basically shattered his hopes. You can imagine he’s definitely not going to be happy with you..."

After ending the call with Ding Ye, Yu Zhiming firmly committed a name to memory.

Qiu Yi!

A top student in his school days, and just as brilliant and dazzling after he started his career.

Although he had told Ding Ye he wasn’t concerned about this formidable rival, deep down, Yu Zhiming’s competitive spirit was stirred.

’We’re both young men. Who’s afraid of who?’

Yu Zhiming read until eleven o’clock before going to bed.

Around one in the morning, his eldest sister dragged him out of bed.

"Fifth Brother, Qingning’s stomach is in terrible pain..."
