Chapter 772: Gu Junsheng! (2)

  • Next Chapter

Holding the Reincarnation Mirror Fragment in one hand, I stood beside the Doctor's trampled body. Behind me loomed the fierce beast's sky-blotting shadow, and before me stood tens of thousands of Longchang natives.

Hideous, twisted faces drew closer and closer. A dense, sprawling mass surged toward Longchang's back door like a black flood.

The giant beast roared. All the light in the Animal Realm gathered in my palm, illuminating the night sky as if I were holding up the reflection of an entire world.

The Longchang natives stopped a few meters away from me. Crushed by the fierce beast's sheer pressure, they didn't dare approach any further.

"Who exactly are you?" The crowd parted as the Security Guard walked out, leading seven massive pig-men. His gaze was sharp, like a vulture spotting prey. His face twisted with hatred—even from a distance, I could hear him gnashing his teeth.

"We met on the other side of reincarnation. I didn't want to interfere with your business tonight, but Zhu Li and the Doctor tried to kill me time and time again. So, I had to follow you in and see exactly what you guys are up to." The Reincarnation Mirror Fragment was entirely in my hands. Light swirled around me. There was no running away anymore, so I could only face it head-on.

"I'm sure you know how it goes—curiosity killed the cat." The Security Guard raised his hand. Behind him, the pig-men from Room Four stepped forward in unison. These monsters, trapped somewhere between human and beast, lumbered toward me.

In terms of sheer size, even ten of Junsheng's remnant souls combined couldn't compare to those Longchang natives. But right now, I had absolutely no intention of fighting them in hand-to-hand combat.

I casually tucked away the Reincarnation Mirror Fragment. The moment the light dimmed, the Longchang Grand Formation trembled slightly, like an earthquake. The giant beast above me seized the opportunity to push into Longchang. Its boundless body took up nearly half the night sky, and its massive head pressed down toward my position, kicking up gusts of fierce wind.

The formation's power still held. The giant beast's gaping maw ground to a halt just two or three meters above my head.

I was fighting with my back to the wall, entirely fearless. But to the Longchang natives, this scene left a lot to the imagination—it looked as though the giant beast and I shared some special connection.

In truth, this giant beast really was attacking Longchang because of me, but the reason was entirely different from what the Longchang natives imagined.

The fierce beast hung across the sky. Its open jaws seemed ready to devour everything in sight.

It wasn't just the Longchang natives—even the pig-men from Room Four, controlled by obsessions, hesitated. They stopped in their tracks and looked back at the Security Guard, seemingly asking for orders.

The Security Guard's expression shifted unpredictably. The Red Building Obsessions had been preparing for this moment for decades. Giving up just because of a slight obstacle was completely impossible.

He racked his brain. His already sinister face drained of all color.

"I've traveled in and out of reincarnation so many times, yet I've never seen a giant beast like this. How did a living person from the Yang Realm manage to attract it?" The Security Guard was short, and his appearance largely retained a human shape. His mind hadn't been affected by reincarnation, and the cunning in his bones wouldn't change just because he swapped bodies. "The beast is attacking Longchang. If this kid actually had a way to control it, or even influence its judgment, he wouldn't need to wear this expression of a man ready to die. The switch to control the Longchang Grand Formation is right in his hands. If he could command the beast, he wouldn't need to go through all this trouble. He'd just shut down the formation, let the beast in, and effortlessly wipe us out."

His tightly scrunched features relaxed, and the Security Guard sneered. "He's just using the beast's might to bluff. There's nothing to fear."

After saying that, black threads drifted out from his body—which was small compared to the other Longchang residents. I had seen this stuff inside other obsessions before. It was composed of negative emotions and the desires for tyranny and gluttony.

I could see them, but the Longchang natives didn't react at all. They let the black threads spread out, eventually piercing into one monster after another like drinking straws.

Every Longchang native touched by the thin black threads underwent a massive transformation. Within seconds, dense black spots appeared in their eyes, and their expressions grew rigid—much like the obsessions I had encountered back in the Red Building.

"Capture him for me, and don't break the mirror in his pocket." Following the Security Guard's command, the Longchang natives who had been standing in the back watching the show started pressing toward me as well. There were simply too many of them, completely clogging up the street.

"There's no way up to heaven, and no door down to hell. Let's see where you can run!" the Security Guard said viciously. "Sparing your life in the Yang Realm was already my greatest mercy. I didn't expect you to actually dare to follow us here. But it doesn't matter. No variable can stop me now."

Thinking he had complete control over the situation, the Security Guard didn't bother to hide his voice at all. Even from a few meters away, I heard him loud and clear.

"Your analysis is spot on. I can't control this giant beast, but it really did come here because of me. As long as I open the Longchang Grand Formation, all of you will die. You'll die in this Animal Realm, and you'll never find release for all eternity." By now, I had completely calmed down. I had one great strength—remaining calm in the face of changes. The more critical the moment, the calmer and more composed I became. Life and death were nothing more than this. What was there to be afraid of?

"You're wrong. The one who will die is you, along with these idiots in Longchang Neighborhood who reincarnated into pigs. And I will steal that old man's chance at reincarnation, completely severing my karma with Longchang. I'll be reborn as a human, spread malice and fear, and welcome my new life!" The Security Guard's features twisted. His face shifted through several different expressions in a fleeting moment. Right now, he didn't just represent one person, but the collective obsession of the entire Pig Cage Apartments.

Hearing his words, my mind raced. Obsessions were incredibly hard to destroy. As long as even a single one of them survived, they could always rise from the ashes.

Driven by the Security Guard, the Longchang natives closed in on me. I was surrounded by Chu songs on all sides, seemingly backed into a dead end.

My gaze swept across the monsters' faces one by one. Finally, I made up my mind and took out the White Bone Jade Box.

"With hundreds of thousands of negative merit and hands stained with blood, I'm not a good person—whether from a religious perspective or a legal one." Gripping the lid of the box, I gave a self-deprecating smile. "Whatever. If these are the final moments of my life, then let me follow my heart and do a single good deed."

The story of the Old Granny and Junsheng had moved me. They had held on for decades; I didn't want to watch them end in a tragedy.

When I told the girl the secret of the Copper Mirror and chose to lure the obsessions away on my own, I had already prepared myself. 'I hope she manages to leave safely.'

I applied pressure with my fingers, and the tightly shut lid slowly opened. The crashing waves of the Yellow Springs echoed from within the depths of reincarnation.

I stared straight ahead, feeling neither sorrow nor joy. I was so calm that even I felt surprised. Perhaps I had grown so used to death that I could face this moment with utter indifference—so much so that I couldn't even think of a single last word.

The moment I brought out the White Bone Jade Box, the Security Guard's expression shifted. Some of the black threads extending from his body snapped instantly. The Longchang natives were terrified of death, and their fear of the Yellow Springs drastically increased the difficulty of his control over them.

"What is that thing?" The Security Guard's facial muscles twitched slightly. Only now did he realize that he seemed to have been underestimating this kid the entire time.

"I never said I could control the giant beast. Such an uncontrollable force couldn't possibly be considered my trump card." I opened the White Bone Jade Box half a finger's width. The countless Longchang natives before me stopped dead in their tracks, too terrified to draw any closer. By the time I opened it to a full finger's width, the sound of waves sweeping across the heavens resounded in everyone's ears.

It wasn't an illusion. It was incredibly real. Everyone heard the sound that symbolized death.

"Yin and Yang are opposites. The commotion wasn't even this huge when I used the Yellow Springs Token back in the Yang Realm." I offered an indifferent smile and deliberately walked toward the Security Guard. With every step I took, the Longchang monsters blocking the path retreated a step back. The Yellow Springs flowed in reverse—the absolute advantage was mine!

For every fraction I lifted the lid, Junsheng's remnant soul became a bit more ethereal, and my own consciousness began to blur. This token was squeezing every last drop of strength from my body. If I opened it completely, both my will and Junsheng's remnant soul would scatter into nothingness.

"Wait!" The Security Guard was my primary target. He felt an immense pressure, as if his body was about to be shredded by massive waves. "Don't you just want to save that old man? We can talk about this!"

"Now you want to negotiate?" The light from the Reincarnation Mirror Fragment connected heaven and earth, supporting the grand formation. The White Bone Jade Box radiated a terrifying power that made the world change color. I walked straight ahead, and no one dared to stop me.

The time wasn't right yet. Forcing the White Bone Jade Box open put far too much strain on me. Keeping the lid steady, I walked step by step toward the Longchang Main Building. If the Red Building Obsessions dared to attack me, I would instantly throw the jade box wide open.

It was a psychological gamble. If I won, I could smoothly leave through the Copper Mirror. If I lost, we would all perish together.

After entering the main building, I breathed a slight sigh of relief. The Security Guard had too many reservations to attack me. He and the monsters from Room Four merely used this time to control even more Longchang natives with their black threads.

A massive, mighty horde of thousands of Longchang monsters followed me, squeezing into the main building.

'Please don't let anything happen to them. I hope I'm in time.' After reaching the top floor, I started calling out for Uncle Xu and the girl. Finally, I found them both in a corner room on the top floor.

Seeing me again, Uncle Xu and the girl almost couldn't recognize me. They simply couldn't understand how the exact same person could undergo such a drastic transformation in just a few minutes.

"Junsheng?"

The girl wanted to come over, but Uncle Xu stopped her. The old man had sharp eyes and instantly saw that my condition was highly abnormal. "Don't go over."

"He's not Junsheng! This guy is just a thief occupying someone else's soul!" The Security Guard's voice rang out from the other side of the corridor. The Red Building Obsessions had controlled thousands of expressionless Longchang monsters, completely blocking all the exits. "You have nowhere left to run. The game is over."

The densely packed Longchang natives shielded the Security Guard as they closed in on me. A foul stench filled the corridor.

Uncle Xu and the girl hid by the doorway, while I turned my head to glance at the dust-covered Copper Mirror resting above the doorframe.

"Is the sky in the Yang Realm still not bright?"
