Chapter 470: Heaven Wants You Dead
In the dim hospital restroom, the faucet turned on by itself, and blurry handwriting appeared on the mirror. The sight was so eerie that an ordinary person would have already screamed out loud.
"You want me to save you?" I observed Wang Shi through my Judging Eye. He was not in good shape.
He was too weak. His solidity couldn't even compare to the Seductive Ghost, Wang Yuchun. I hadn't had him out for long, yet his body was already showing signs of dissipating.
"I can't stay in the sunlight for long. I feel like I could dissipate into smoke at any moment. For the sake of our past cooperation, help me. I barely escaped that train—I absolutely cannot go back!" The characters appeared on the mirror one by one, hastily scrawled, revealing Wang Shi's anxiety. "My assets in the Yang Realm, my house, my savings, even my prized pen name—I will give them all to you!"
The entire savings of a bestselling print author were certainly tempting, but I knew that money wouldn't be easy to take. "How do you want me to help you?"
"My body is very fragile, even more so than ordinary ghosts. Just a few minutes of sunlight will completely destroy me. I'm only safe inside the jade bead on your Ghost Ring."
"That's easy enough. You can stay in there as long as you like, and I'll let you out for some air at night." As I said it, even I felt a little weird. It sounded like keeping a pet.
"Thank you, but this isn't a long-term solution. I'd like to humbly ask you for a favor." Wang Shi was at an absolute disadvantage. His life and death hinged on my every whim, so his tone carried a hint of humility.
"Just say it. Don't beat around the bush."
"I'll give you all the wealth I left behind in the Yang Realm. In return, help me find things that can solidify my soul, or take me to places heavy with Yin energy at night. That would benefit me greatly." Having filled the mirror, Wang Shi started writing on the white wall of the restroom."Treasures that can solidify a soul are extremely rare; they aren't something money can buy. I don't mind going to places with heavy Yin energy at night, but I can't do it every single night. After all, I still have a normal life to live." As I spoke, I quietly observed Wang Shi, finding that his expression hadn't changed much.
"I don't want to disrupt your life either, but in this ghostly state, I simply can't see the light of day. I'm incredibly anxious."
"What you're really anxious about is that I might do something to you, right?" I circulated the Yin-Yang Ghost Art, extracting a trace of Yin energy from my Yin Meridian and injecting it into Wang Shi. His complexion instantly improved. "Wang Shi, we've been through life and death together, and we know each other inside out. I'll just be straightforward with you."
As the Yin energy entered his body, Wang Shi's eyes lit up, but quickly dimmed again. His current situation was quite awkward. "I'm listening."
"Wealth in the Yang Realm is completely useless to you, and honestly, it's not of much use to me either. So, those worldly possessions can't be used as a bargaining chip." Money was a good thing, but ever since I became an Underworld Live Show Streamer, my horizons had broadened. There were many things in this world that money couldn't buy.
"Then what do you want? Other than my legacy in the Yang Realm, what else do I have that you need?" Wang Shi hastily wrote with the water.
"We worked together to escape that train. Are you interested in continuing our partnership?" I wore a smile. What I truly valued was Wang Shi himself. He was scheming, treacherous, and ruthless—he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Such a person was dangerous, but I had to admit that he could be very useful at times, especially for his intellect.
It was evident from the wife-murdering plan he had drafted—detailed and thorough. This man had guts. He was calm and cautious in a crisis, making him a rare madman, but also a rare talent.
If he were still alive, I would absolutely never dare to work with him. I could be betrayed at any moment. But things were different now. He was neither human nor ghost, reduced to a mere spirit. More importantly, compared to other ghosts lingering in the Yang Realm, his memory and intellect were completely intact!
This point was crucial. Whether it was a Fate Ghost or a Ghost Mother, most acted on their obsessions from when they were alive, manifesting out of Yin energy and resentment. But Wang Shi was different. He had escaped the Death Train, passed through the barrier of the Yin-Yang Boundary, and returned to the Yang Realm under the protection of my Ghost Ring.
A series of coincidences coming together had resulted in an anomaly like Wang Shi.
The Underworld Live Show didn't allow living creatures on streams, but there were no restrictions on ghosts.
Although Wang Shi wasn't a living person, his intellect was far superior to that of most living people. He could be the perfect assistant for my streams!
So, I was tempted. With two of us streaming together, mission difficulty would plummet. We could split up to explore unknown locations, saving a massive amount of time. And if I encountered unavoidable danger, Wang Shi could help share the risk.
"Do I even have the qualifications to work with you right now?" Wang Shi looked at the water stains on the mirror. "Cooperation is built on relatively equal strength, yet I can't even speak."
"Of course you do. The things I do are very unique. They don't just require courage; they require intellect and cunning. Brute force alone isn't enough." I gave Wang Shi a beaming smile, which made him a little uncomfortable.
"What are you going to do? Is it dangerous?"
"The truth is, the world we live in is very complicated. You probably haven't forgotten what we encountered in the Yin-Yang Boundary and on the Death Train. Most people live in the light, but there are many things hidden in the shadows. I happen to be one of the unique ones. I walk the edge between the Yang Realm and the Underworld, digging up the city's deepest secrets." I pulled out the Underworld Live Show's Large-Screen Phone. "I possess the most cutting-edge intelligence and connections you couldn't possibly imagine. At the same time, I have to delve into the most dangerous places, because only there can I find the truth I'm seeking and astounding wealth."
"Is that why you boarded the train to the Yin-Yang Boundary? What kind of wealth could that place possibly have?"
Wang Shi had walked into the beautiful lie I had woven for him, and I smiled as I prepared to reel in the net. "You only need to know one thing: those perilous locations are buried with all sorts of treasures. One of those items might just give you a physical body again, allowing you to be reborn as a human!"
The temptation of rebirth was immense, especially for Wang Shi in his current state.
It didn't take long for Wang Shi and me to reach an agreement. I would provide him with shelter and help him find things to strengthen his soul, while he would work for me wholeheartedly. To show his sincerity, he even gave me the password to one of his bank cards, which held nearly 600,000 in savings.
Our preliminary collaboration was a pleasant one. I drew Wang Shi back into the jade bead, checked the time on my phone, and strode outside.
"1:59. I'm afraid I won't make it to Bridge No. 3 Crematorium in time." Hurrying out the door, I saw an electrician coming in with a toolbox. We brushed past each other, which ordinarily wouldn't have been a big deal.
But the man seemed extremely timid. The moment he stepped inside and saw the mirror and walls covered in watery writing, he scrambled backward in terror. Just as I was walking out, my phone suddenly rang. Before I could answer it, someone violently slammed into my back.
Losing my balance, I pitched forward. Coincidentally, an aging wire on the ceiling snapped at that exact moment, whipping straight toward my eye with crackling blue arcs of electricity.
"Crap!" Through my Judging Eye, the blue electric arcs were all too clear. If it hit, my face would likely be charred to a crisp.
Thinking fast, I slapped my palm against the doorframe, forcibly changing the direction of my fall. I narrowly dodged the live wire, but before I could breathe a sigh of relief, my Judging Eye caught the electrician's toolbox crashing to the floor. A small flathead screwdriver bounced out, its sharp tip pointing straight at my heart.
Thud!
It was too close. There was absolutely no way to dodge.
A sharp pain pierced my chest. Lying on my side on the floor, I hurriedly reached for my heart. My suit jacket had been punctured, but there was no blood.
Following the hole inward, the flathead screwdriver had struck directly against that half of the Fate Manipulator Token. Fortunately, I always kept it close to my body, which was the only reason I had narrowly survived this ordeal.
"That was close." Using the wall, I climbed up from the floor, put the half-token back in place, and steered far clear of the live wire. Fear flashed in my eyes. "Is it starting? Am I really going to die on October 30th?"
