Super Thrilling Live Broadcast
Chapter 324: Her Profession
"Hello everyone, this is your streamer Gao Jian. I narrowly escaped death last time, so the Super Thriller Live Broadcast Room will continue." Standing up straight with a smile, I looked calm and collected on the screen, carrying a natural air of elegance.
"Is that your excuse for delaying the stream for a day?"
"Streamer, go in peace. Leave those wives who like walking around in their pajamas to me. I've been single for twenty-five years, so I definitely won't do anything weird to them!"
"Fuck, didn't you say last time was the finale? What a waste of my feelings."
"Unscrupulous streamer! Zero professional ethics! Bah! If I ever watch your stream again, may the dick of the guy downstairs shrink by a centimeter!"
Master Tieling Biao rewarded the Super Thriller Live Broadcast Room with 1 Yuanbao: "The special effects for this gift are pretty cool..."
Ugly to the Depths of My Soul: "It's good that you're still streaming. To be honest, I've been watching since the very beginning, just lurking and too afraid to speak. Seeing so many people cursing the streamer today, I feel the need to stand up and say a few fair words."
"This livestream room was the turning point of my life. I used to be an honest farmer, a pure and straightforward guy. But since coming here, it's like the doors to a whole new world opened up for me. I learned about femboys, being gay, porn codes, adult massages, double-tapping 666, cute girls with massive dicks crying 'ying ying ying'—holy shit, it's all vital knowledge!"
"The bros and homies here are super nice, too. They're always driving the night train and dropping late-night NSFW goodies, always screaming 'young wives, young wives, riding the clouds and mist.' I have no idea what it means, but it's hype as hell!"
Teletubbies Died of Murder rewarded the Super Thriller Live Broadcast Room with 1 Yuanbao: "Holy shit! That last line from the guy above is brilliant! Come on, brothers, follow my lead—Young wives! Young wives! Riding the clouds and mist!"Little Bunny Tooth: "Hey! Have you guys ever considered the feelings of the female audience? There are girls in this stream, too!"
"I don't care! Midnight is here, the stream has started, and nobody can stop me now! I will cultivate immortality! My magic power knows no bounds!"
"Immortal aura and Daoist bones, getting high until we're in our tombs!"
"Young wives, young wives, riding the clouds and mist!"
Little Meng, Married for 33 Days: "Go to hell! You all need to be humanely destroyed!"
...
The pace of the barrage in the livestream room was like a runaway horse—nobody knew where it would bolt to next. In just a short while, no one cared anymore about what I'd said about this possibly being the final episode. In this era of mass entertainment, you lost the moment you took things too seriously.
"Fellow livestream viewers, our location for this stream is the Maternity and Children's Health Center behind me. Located in the suburbs, it covers a floor area of several thousand square meters. However, this private hospital has now been shut down. Rumor has it there are many reasons for this, including the bizarre disappearance of its director and the hospital losing a patient's child." I patiently introduced the hospital's background while keeping an eye on the barrage to see if Daoist master Wan, Half-Immortal Liu, and the others were around.
Judging by the three optional tasks for this stream, finding that missing child would be crucial to uncovering all the secrets hidden within the Maternity and Children's Health Center. The third optional task was to protect the living—every additional survivor would reward me with an extra point. That meant I would likely run into more than one living person during tonight's broadcast. Saving them should help piece together the truth behind the incident and significantly lower the difficulty of the stream.
Official streams were different from evaluation streams. If I failed to complete the commission from the Underworld, the stream wouldn't simply end, so I needed to focus more of my energy on solving the mystery.
Qicun Maternity and Children's Health Center was a private hospital. Although it operated under the guise of a district public hospital, it was actually just a third-rate maternal and child clinic and convalescent facility. Many of the doctors there didn't even have medical licenses, which was why it covered such a large area yet only dared to set up shop in the remote suburbs.
I had found many reviews about this hospital online, mostly negative. My own past experiences also spoke volumes.
During the Route 14 Spirit Bus stream, Zhang Rong had taken the bus late at night to get an abortion here. Back then, Balding Uncle's taxi had been haunted by an Infant Spirit precisely because he had picked up a pregnant woman. Coincidentally, that pregnant woman's destination had also been Qicun Maternity and Children's Health Center.
Any location chosen for an official broadcast definitely wouldn't have a low difficulty level. I cleared the distracting thoughts from my mind—ignoring the cry for help over the phone, the Fox Immortal Corpse, and the Jiang family's revenge—and psyched myself up to face this stream.
"Isn't it just finding a missing child? That won't be hard for me." Twisting the Brooch on my chest, I adjusted the camera angle. I didn't turn it on just yet; after all, I was already used to streaming with my phone.
Leaving the Route 14 Bus Stop, I walked further in. There were abandoned residential houses on both sides of the Maternity and Children's Health Center, with a cement road running down the middle. Flanking the road were uneven dirt ditches and some bizarrely crooked trees.
"There isn't a single person around here?" I took a deep breath and circled the hospital first. The doors and windows were all tightly shut. Each pitch-black window looked like the eye of a devil. I didn't know if it was just an illusion, but I kept feeling like something was watching me from behind one of those windows.
"I have Talisman Paper on me. I don't need to worry about ordinary resentful infants or malicious ghosts. If someone tries to play tricks on me, I won't be at a disadvantage in a real fight." Compared to my previous streams, this one didn't seem too difficult on the surface. But that was exactly why I felt a bit anxious. 'Did I overlook something crucial?'
Since it wasn't yet midnight, I was in no rush to go inside. I looked around and suddenly noticed a Maserati Quattroporte speeding over from the distance.
It wasn't that I knew much about luxury cars; the design of this model was just too flashy and eye-catching. The two headlights looked like tiger fangs, giving the entire exterior a very ferocious look.
The car slowly decelerated as it passed the Maternity and Children's Health Center and stopped by the Route 14 Bus Stop. Then, the heavy metal music inside abruptly stopped, the car door was pushed open aggressively, and a smooth, bare leg stepped out.
"What long legs—ptui! What's going on here?" I muttered, stepping to the side with the Underworld Live Show Phone in hand, silently watching the woman emerge from the car.
She was twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with an absolutely flawless figure. Her outfit was highly fashionable, simple yet sexy—the type that made you want a second look.
My gaze fell to her lower abdomen. The curves were elegant; she likely worked out often. 'Her stomach is flat; she doesn't look like she's here for surgery. Why would a woman come to the Maternity and Children's Health Center late at night? Could she have some unspeakable secret?'
A few minutes later, the woman locked the car doors and walked off carrying a handbag.
'She seems to be heading toward the Maternity and Children's Health Center? The front gates here are tightly locked; anyone who isn't blind should be able to see that.' Things were getting a little complicated, and I couldn't figure out her reasoning right then. But since this place had been listed as a broadcast location by the Underworld Live Show, it was definitely extremely dangerous.
Out of good intentions, I stepped out of the shadows and waved at the woman to tell her that it wasn't safe here.
The woman looked surprised to see me as well. Slipping one hand into her handbag, she slowly walked toward me.
As she got closer, I could see her much more clearly. It was already autumn, yet she was still wearing hot pants and a chiffon blouse. Although her appearance was a tier below Tie Ningxiang and Onitsuka Ayaka, she was still considered top-notch with makeup, bearing some resemblance to those online goddesses worshipped by otaku.
"This place is extremely dangerous and has been shut down. If you need anything, please go to a different hospital."
I tried to dissuade her out of the goodness of my heart, but the woman didn't seem to care. Instead, her peach-blossom eyes scanned me up and down until it gave me the chills. Only then did she retract her gaze. "What do you do? A security guard? A cop? A nearby villager?"
I lowered the Underworld Live Show Phone and frowned. "Does what I do have anything to do with you?"
"Of course it does." The woman placed a finger against her lips, striking a thoughtful pose. "If you're a cop, I'll leave right now. If you're a guard or a villager, then everything is negotiable."
"Negotiable? Some people just went missing from here a few days ago, and rumor has it there's a madwoman who comes here at night to look for her child. It's extremely dangerous." Even though the optional stream tasks would reward me with an extra point for every living person I protected, I had no need to watch her jump into a pit of fire just for a measly point. "I'm just a passerby reminding you out of good intentions. I don't mean anything else."
"Just a bystander, huh?" The woman let out a light chuckle and started rummaging for something in her handbag. "Then do you know what I do?"
"What the hell does what you do have to do with me? Hurry up and leave. It'll be too late for regrets once someone dies."
