Chapter 211: Suppressing the Ghost
A tiny hand closed in on my vision, its skeletal fingertips like sharp knives.
"Watch out!"
Before I could react, someone tossed a handful of glutinous rice through the doorway. Jiang Fei had been watching me this whole time. Noticing the change in my expression, she immediately followed my instructions and scattered the rice.
The jade-white rice struck the Little Ghost. Its form flickered and grew faint, its movements turning sluggish like a stray cat or dog pelted with gravel.
I seized the opportunity. Locking onto the Little Ghost's position on my phone screen, I flicked the Suppression Talisman forward.
Unfortunately, the Little Ghost was too fast. The Suppression Talisman missed. By the time I picked up the Talisman Paper to strike again, it had completely vanished.
"Gao Jian, did you see it?" Jiang Fei walked into the room. Seeing the blood drained from my face, she knew I had likely just fought the ghost.
"It's too fast. Really hard to deal with." My heart still pounded with lingering fear. "You threw that rice just in time, or else the Little Ghost probably would have gouged out my eyes."
Truth be told, Jiang Fei had just saved my life.
"Judging by this, black dog blood and glutinous rice should be effective against the Little Ghost. It's a shame that big rooster died so early. If we could have let it loose, we'd be able to track the Little Ghost down." I shut the bathroom door and stood in the middle of the living room. The Little Ghost had vanished again. It could be right behind me, or it could be hiding in another room.
The hardest part about dealing with this thing wasn't its strength, but how it came and went without a trace. It hid in the dark, leaving no clues behind.
"I keep feeling like it's right beside us. Gao Jian, could it be clinging to one of us right now?" Jiang Fei stood barefoot on the floor. The icy chill seeped through her soles straight into her spine, making her shiver. Her eyes darted around the room in a panic.
"Don't panic. Listen closely." I circulated the Profound Truth Mental Method, emptying my mind and heightening my five senses. "Do you hear anything?"
"Hear what?" Jiang Fei held her breath and listened closely. From deep within the villa, a heavily suppressed woman's voice drifted over. "It sounds like it's in the first-floor guest room."
I crept over to the door and twisted the handle. It was locked from the inside. "Do you have the key to the guest room?"
With only a door between us, the muffled woman's voice was much clearer. Jiang Fei's face flushed crimson, and she said with some embarrassment, "I do, but Ye Weilong and Jia Qingbai are staying in there. It wouldn't be appropriate for us to just go in, would it?"
"There's something wrong with that voice. It's probably not what you're thinking."
"What would I be thinking?" Jiang Fei kept her head down, refusing to meet my eyes. She quickly fetched the guest room key and unlocked the door without making too much noise.
I gently pushed the door open just a crack, narrowing my eyes to peer inside.
A double bed sat against the wall of the guest room. Ye Weilong was sleeping on the outer edge. Most of the thin blanket had been pulled away by Jia Qingbai, exposing his eight-pack abs. His eyes were shut tight, fast asleep.
My gaze jumped past Ye Weilong to the side near the wall. Wrapped in the thin blanket, Jia Qingbai was hovering between sleep and wakefulness. Her eyes were half-open and glassy. Every now and then, she would draw in a sharp breath, letting out those strange noises.
"Stop messing around. My body is falling apart. Just spare me, okay?" Whether Jia Qingbai was sleep-talking or not, she suddenly spoke to the empty air. She then reached under the blanket, as if trying to stop something from moving.
While this scene might sound erotic, it actually looked incredibly bizarre to me. Ye Weilong was dead to the world, his body exposed to the air. His hands weren't touching Jia Qingbai at all.
Yet judging by Jia Qingbai's reaction, there was clearly something under the blanket crawling all over her!
"Stand here and keep watch. Don't go in yet." I had Jiang Fei guard the door while I went to the storage room to fetch a large bowl of black dog blood.
"Is that Little Ghost still in there?" As I peered through the crack in the door, Jia Qingbai's voice grew louder and louder, making even me blush slightly.
Disturbed by her noises, Ye Weilong's eyelids fluttered as he slowly woke from his slumber. He furrowed his brows and shot Jia Qingbai a harsh glare. "What are you acting so slutty for? Settle down!"
Being yelled at by her bedmate made Jia Qingbai feel incredibly wronged. She pulled her hands out from under the blanket, no longer trying to stop the unknown thing crawling on her.
The pitiful aspiring socialite starlet still thought it was Ye Weilong's hands roaming beneath the blanket. Her face flushed bright red, and she held it in for a long time before finally saying to him, "It's too late. I'm really tired."
"If you're tired, then go to sleep! Stop whining!" Ye Weilong couldn't even be bothered to turn his head, merely waving his hand impatiently.
"But you're..." Jia Qingbai cut herself off. She stared at Ye Weilong's arms resting outside the blanket, then carefully focused on the ice-cold sensation moving across her body. An unspeakable terror began to creep into her heart.
She could barely speak, her complexion deathly pale. "Weilong..."
"What is it?!" Ye Weilong sat up abruptly, irritated by her noise.
Jia Qingbai completely forgot about trying to please him. With a trembling hand, she pointed at the blanket. "Th-there's someone under the covers!"
"Bullshit!" Ye Weilong grabbed the thin blanket and threw it off. Instantly, both of them locked eyes with a ghastly pale infant face clinging right to Jia Qingbai's stomach.
"Move!"
I knew I couldn't wait any longer. I kicked the door open, ignoring everything else, and hurled the large bowl of black dog blood straight at the bed!
The phrase "drenched in dog blood" became a literal reality in that moment. On the large bed, Jia Qingbai and Ye Weilong sat frozen, covered head to toe in black dog blood.
"Watch out for the Little Ghost!" I shouted, hoping to snap them out of it. But getting splattered with dog blood had completely shattered their composure. Jia Qingbai let out a piercing scream and nearly fainted. Ye Weilong clenched his fists and charged right at me—the pampered rich kid had officially snapped.
"Fuck you!" Ye Weilong, who worked out year-round and had a near-perfect physique, was highly confident in his own strength. Dripping with dog blood, he threw a vicious punch at me.
The fist closed in. The power behind it was decent, but to me, it was simply too slow.
I didn't even need to use Chasing Eye. I simply sidestepped to dodge the punch, stepped into his guard, and drove my knuckles into his armpit. When he lurched sideways in pain, I followed up with a knee strike at eighty percent power, effortlessly dropping him to the floor.
In my eyes, Ye Weilong was nothing more than an embroidered pillow—pretty to look at, but completely useless.
Kicking him aside, I scanned the guest room and quickly spotted something.
On the light-colored bedsheets where the dog blood hadn't reached, a tiny handprint suddenly appeared like a blood-stained plum blossom. Immediately after, more bloody handprints began to manifest, their frequency accelerating rapidly.
I pulled out the Underworld Live Show Phone. On the screen, the pale, eerie Little Ghost was scuttling across the bedsheets at a terrifying speed.
"Let's see where you run this time." Even though the black dog blood hadn't injured the Little Ghost, it exposed its trail, leaving a path of bloody handprints wherever it crawled. For me, that was more than enough.
I pulled out the Suppression Talisman. The moment the talisman was drawn, the Little Ghost fled in panic. The damned thing was incredibly smart; it knew exactly what posed a threat to it.
"After it!"
I followed the bloody trail all the way up to the second floor. The bloody handprints finally stopped right inside the bedroom where Ye Bing was staying.
"Ye Bing! Wake up!" I pounded on the door. With all the commotion just now, there was no way she hadn't heard anything. She shouldn't have been completely off her guard.
Crash! A mirror shattered inside the bedroom, followed by Ye Bing's frantic screaming. "Go away! Don't come any closer! I'm not your mommy! I'm not your mommy!"
Her voice sounded desperate. Jiang Fei quickly grabbed the key and unlocked the bedroom door. Stepping in the seven-star footwork pattern, I rushed into the room, gripping the talisman tight.
Hair disheveled, Ye Bing was running and dodging wildly around the room. I could clearly see a continuous trail of bloody handprints materializing right behind her. The Little Ghost was chasing her!
"I'm not your mommy! Let me go! I'm not your mommy!" Ye Bing shrieked like a madwoman. I pointed my phone screen right behind her. Sure enough, the Ghost Infant, its face twisted in sheer malice, was tailing her closely, desperately trying to burrow its way into her body.
I pinched the talisman tightly between my fingers. Saving her was the priority. Taking a swift step forward, I shouted, "Ye Bing, come here!"
"Gao Jian!" A glimmer of hope flared in Ye Bing's eyes, as if a ray of sunlight had pierced through the darkness.
She sprinted toward me, the bloody handprints following hot on her heels!
"You sinister Little Ghost, twice you tried to gouge out my eyes. Today, it's an eye for an eye!" My voice boomed like a bronze bell. Using Chasing Eye to lock onto the Little Ghost's figure, my hands flew into motion as I roared the incantation. "Five Directions Divine Generals, lend me this dharmic might to suppress all things! Hastily as decreed by the laws!"
"Suppress!"
