Super Thrilling Live Broadcast
Chapter 203: I Saw Someone Else's Shadow in the Room
My hand jerked, nearly knocking Jiang Fei's phone from her grasp. "You saw my live broadcast too?"
As an Underworld Live Show Streamer, I was an adventurer hunting down urban legends in front of a camera after midnight. But by day, amid the noise of the city, I was just an ordinary guy running an Adult Shop.
I was a nobody in this city, and I needed an inconspicuous identity like this as a disguise.
I didn't want anyone to recognize me. If others started recognizing me like Jiang Fei and the Balding Uncle had, the more people who figured out who I was, the more dangerous my situation would get.
As more people uncovered my secret, the Underworld Live Show would inevitably be exposed to the public one day. And that day would likely be the day I was obliterated for violating my contract.
"Let's talk inside." I pulled open the shop door to let her in, but she tucked her phone away and pulled out her car keys instead.
"Let's grab a bite. We can talk while we eat." She looked like a hunter who had her prey's weakness firmly in hand; her full, glossy lips curved upward, and a long-lost smile spread across her stunning face.
I thought it over for a moment, then nodded. "But you'll have to take me to the bank first. I need to pick up a few things."
"No problem. Get in."
Jiang Fei drove her Ferrari convertible. Its fiery red body was just like her inner self—bold and blazing, like a wildfire sweeping across a prairie.I'd just gotten up that morning and hadn't really cleaned myself up, having simply thrown on a jacket. Sitting in the passenger seat now, I felt a bit out of place.
When we arrived at the bank, the lobby manager was already waiting. This wasn't our first time dealing with each other, so we knew the routine; I went in and retrieved the items I had redeemed in no time.
The black bundle was about the size of a basketball. Since Jiang Fei was in the car, I didn't open it and simply held it in my arms.
"What kind of treasure is that? We're going to eat. Why don't you leave it in the car?"
"No need." I shook my head. Everything in this bundle had been redeemed with Underworld Live Show Points—precious items that money could hardly buy—so naturally, I had to keep them with me.
"You're always so secretive. The first time we met, it seemed like you were going to the bank to pick something up too." I had no idea what had gotten into Jiang Fei, but she wore a faint smile the entire way, as if something good had happened today and she was genuinely happy deep down.
"Yeah. You've really changed since then, though. I almost didn't recognize you." I rested the black cloth bundle on my lap. The Fate Ghost Monument inside was actually quite heavy.
"I was young and naive back then. Knowing one's error and being able to reform is the greatest virtue, right? That's why I came specifically to make amends to you." Jiang Fei glanced over at me while waiting at a red light. I had no idea what crossed her mind, but she covered her mouth and couldn't stop laughing.
"Eyes on the road. Just drive." Completely baffled, I kept a straight face and closed my eyes to rest.
A little over ten minutes later, Jiang Fei and I arrived at a Korean barbecue place downtown. The restaurant wasn't large, but it was thoughtfully decorated and had a great ambiance. With small tables set in private booths, it was quiet and wouldn't easily be disturbed.
I was somewhat surprised by her choice of venue. I'd expected her to take me to Century New Garden. After all, that was the Jiang family's territory and one of the finest restaurants in all of Jiangcheng.
"I know you and my brother don't get along, so I just picked a random spot. The food here is really good, and today happens to be their third anniversary, so they have special deals..." Jiang Fei went on at length about the place. This was hardly a "random spot"—she had clearly put a lot of effort into choosing it, weighing it for a long time and considering every angle before deciding.
Walking inside, I felt even more awkward. The booths were filled with young couples who spent half their meal fawning over each other, all sweet and mushy, making me frown just watching them.
"Gao Jian, over here." Jiang Fei had already reserved a table. She had clearly planned this well in advance.
"Just tell me what you want. There's no need for all this hassle." If Jiang Fei hadn't mentioned seeing my Underworld Live Show live broadcast, I probably would have just walked out. It wasn't about disrespecting her; I just wasn't great at socializing. I preferred to be straightforward and keep things as simple as possible.
Jiang Fei knew my temper well enough. She waved a waiter over and motioned for our food to be served.
"Can you tell me now?" I didn't actually want to discuss this in public, but right now, my desire to get away from this young miss of the Jiang family outweighed my fear of being overheard.
"What's the rush? Barbecue is meant to be enjoyed slowly. The Korean food here is super authentic." Jiang Fei leisurely started grilling the meat, but I was in no mood to waste time humoring her.
"If you've really watched my stream, you should know what I'll be facing before long, so stop wasting our time." Leaving the chopsticks on the table untouched, I lit a cheap cigarette and frowned, mulling over what had happened with the Underworld Live Show last night.
"Sir, smoking is prohibited here." The waiter standing nearby had clearly had enough of me. No matter where she went, Jiang Fei's stunning figure and beautiful face made her the center of attention. God had clearly played favorites with her—gorgeous features, a smoking hot body, and the richest father in Jiangcheng. She was the textbook definition of a dream girl, a goddess in the eyes of every man.
From the moment she walked in, several of the waiters had been making excuses to pass by our table, whether they were delivering food or settling bills. Their eyes were practically glued to her. They were being so obvious about it; how could I not notice?
Still, there was no need to bother with people who didn't matter. I stubbed out my cigarette and pointed at Jiang Fei's phone. "When did that app show up on your phone?"
"The same day you rescued me."
"It's been there since then?" I was genuinely shocked. 'Jiang Fei really knows how to keep her composure.'
"Try this. Dip it in the sauce; it tastes amazing." She seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere, placing a slice of grilled meat onto my plate.
Looking at the fragrant grilled meat on my plate, I had no appetite at all. I kept trying to guess just how much of my secret Jiang Fei knew. "When did you start watching, and what have you seen?"
My "terrible" attitude thoroughly pissed off the young waiter. Eyes blazing with anger, he glared at me before looking at the grilled meat on my plate with a mix of longing and envy. It was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, golden and glistening, with a tempting aroma—and more importantly, the goddess had grilled it herself with her own fair, slender hands.
My tone didn't bother Jiang Fei in the slightest. Instead, she beckoned to me. "There are too many people around. Come sit over here. Get a little closer and I'll tell you."
The booth wasn't big, so sitting side by side was a bit cramped for the two of us.
"Now will you tell me?"
I leaned in to listen, and she whispered softly, "After you rescued me, this app popped up on my phone. I couldn't uninstall it or even open it, so I just ignored it."
"Until the night before last. I dreamed about Henshan Psychiatric Hospital again, and woke up so terrified I couldn't get back to sleep. I just pulled out my phone and tapped it by accident, and to my surprise, the app actually opened. That's when I saw you on the screen." Jiang Fei unlocked her phone and tapped the icon. "I was shocked at first, but then I remembered that you were holding a phone and recording the whole time you were rescuing me. Once I put two and two together, it all made sense."
Like a sly fox, she rested her hand lightly on my jacket. "You only showed up at Henshan Psychiatric Hospital that time to do your show. Running into me was just an accident—you weren't after my dad's money at all."
"Don't say that. I was just afraid your brother would kill me, so I didn't dare claim the reward." Learning that Jiang Fei had only watched my stream once, I breathed a sigh of relief. "You'd better not watch my stream anymore. It'll only get you hurt."
"Are you worried about me?" Jiang Fei asked, looking me over with great interest. "If you are, I promise I won't watch it anymore."
"When the nightmare finally comes for you, you'll realize I'm not joking around."
I got up to move back to my own seat, but Jiang Fei suddenly grabbed my arm. "I know you aren't joking. Ever since that time you didn't dodge or flinch and met the knife I thrust at your chest head-on, I've known you're different from all my other suitors. I believe everything you say."
She motioned for me to sit back down, then leaned in close, whispering directly into my ear, "I came looking for you today for a serious reason. The same night I watched your stream, I noticed another person's shadow in my bedroom."
