Chapter 101: Chapter 99: Delivering the Dog
After saying his piece, Gao Jianmin got up and returned to his bedroom.
Gao Yuan stood in the cold wind and lit a cigarette.
His father’s words had hit him hard.
Before this moment,
he’d never considered things from this angle.
Even after coming into money, he’d only thought about living a more uninhibited life, one where he could get basically anything he wanted.
His plans for the future were limited to starting a business to make even more money.
As for a family dynasty, the thought had never crossed his mind.
Even with these women in his life, he was content to just close the door and live his own private life.
This made Gao Yuan think of the great financial consortiums abroad.
The Rothschild Clan, hailed as the world’s most powerful hidden family; the famous Rockefeller Clan from across the ocean; and even South Korea’s Li Clan.
There’s a saying: "A South Korean can’t avoid three things in life: death, taxes, and Samsung."
These were all rather well-known, prominent families.
In his own country, there were families like that too. Gao Yuan knew of the descendants of Confucius, a line that had endured for over two thousand years.
Sometimes, Gao Yuan didn’t even dare to imagine the sheer wealth these families possessed.
In that moment, ambition began to stir in Gao Yuan’s heart.
’I’m a man with a system, for crying out loud. I’m basically using cheat codes!’
If before he’d only wanted to be a carefree tycoon, now he wanted to create an entire dynasty of carefree tycoons.
At that moment, Gao Yuan’s mindset began another silent transformation.
THUMP.
The sound of a door closing came from behind him. Gao Yuan turned to see that Huang Xiuxia had entered the living room.
"You rascal, I don’t know where you get this kind of luck."
"I was so worried when you didn’t have a girlfriend, and now you have two. I don’t know whether to be happy or tear my hair out."
All Gao Yuan could do was give his mom a sheepish smile.
"All right, all right. This girl is very nice, too."
"You should work on that personality of yours. You have no idea how to sweet-talk a girl!"
With that, Huang Xiuxia shouted toward their bedroom for Gao Yuan’s dad.
"Let’s go to the supermarket and buy some groceries. We’ll eat at home tonight."
Gao Yuan’s parents left for the supermarket, leaving him and Li Mengqing alone in the house.
Opening the bedroom door, Gao Yuan saw Li Mengqing sitting on the edge of the bed, her face flushed with shyness.
"What were you two talking about just now?"
Gao Yuan was curious what his mom could have said to Li Mengqing to make her this bashful.
"Nothing!"
’Why aren’t Li Mengqing’s thoughts coming through?’ Gao Yuan was a little puzzled. He checked with his mind and realized the Telepathy Card had expired.
"Are you gonna talk or not? Huh?"
Since he’d lost his mind-reading ability, Gao Yuan had to resort to physical means.
He tackled Li Mengqing onto the bed and started tickling her.
But no matter what he did this time, Li Mengqing refused to say a word about her conversation with Huang Xiuxia.
Gao Yuan even threatened to wear her out that night, but still couldn’t pry her lips open.
And there was a good reason Li Mengqing refused to talk.
When Huang Xiuxia had come in, she’d started asking all sorts of questions, inquiring about her and her family.
Li Mengqing followed Lin Wanyu’s example. Other than not mentioning her divorce, she answered everything truthfully.
But then,
the conversation drifted, and Huang Xiuxia asked if they had used any protection the night before.
This made Li Mengqing blush so hard she was instantly rendered speechless.
Seeing Li Mengqing’s reaction, Huang Xiuxia guessed they hadn’t used protection and was actually even more delighted.
As she was leaving the room, she even made a point to add Li Mengqing on WeChat, telling her to be sure to take a test in a few days to see if she was pregnant.
That was why Li Mengqing was blushing so furiously.
Gao Yuan teased Li Mengqing for a little while longer, but seeing that she really wouldn’t talk, he stopped bothering her. After all, she was basically a wounded soldier at the moment and needed to rest and recuperate.
While Li Mengqing rested, Gao Yuan went back to the living room, flopped onto the sofa, and started playing on his phone.
He was mainly chatting with Lin Wanyu, asking about her mother’s condition.
After Lin Wanyu told him it wasn’t serious, she proactively asked about him and Li Mengqing, wondering if he’d taken her out to have some fun.
’Little trickster. Still trying to put on an act for me.’
Gao Yuan just came right out and told her that he and Li Mengqing had slept together the day before.
Lin Wanyu feigned surprise, then sent him a sad, heartbroken emoji.
"You’ve broken my heart! To think that while I was away, you would... with my best friend..."
Lin Wanyu went on and on, but Gao Yuan just read her messages with a smile, not replying.
After a moment, Lin Wanyu seemed to sense something was off. "Why aren’t you saying anything? Is this your attitude? [Angry.jpg]"
Seeing that she’d stopped, Gao Yuan replied directly on WeChat: "Qingqing has already confessed in exchange for leniency. Are you, the other conspirator, going to remain stubbornly resistant?"
That shut Lin Wanyu up.
Gao Yuan glanced toward his bedroom. ’Lin Wanyu is probably blowing up Li Mengqing’s phone right now.’
’But Li Mengqing will definitely tell her she didn’t confess to me, and that this whole thing was part of their plan.’
Sure enough, his WeChat chimed a moment later.
"You did something wrong and you won’t even admit it! I’m really mad now!"
"And I won’t be easy to placate!"
Gao Yuan laughed out loud when he read that.
Lin Wanyu was really laying it on thick, but her acting wasn’t quite up to par.
What woman, after finding out her boyfriend slept with her best friend, would be capable of saying something as tame as "I won’t be easy to placate"?
Gao Yuan didn’t call her bluff, simply replying, "Just wait until I get back tomorrow. I’ll deal with you then!"
...
That evening, Gao Yuan’s dad personally cooked a sumptuous dinner.
After dinner, Gao Yuan and Li Mengqing went straight to the bedroom.
They were planning to drive back to Hang City the next day, so they needed to get an early night. Gao Jianmin and Huang Xiuxia didn’t say anything more.
After a night’s rest with Li Mengqing in his arms, Gao Yuan woke up the next day feeling refreshed and began to pack his bags.
He hadn’t brought much with him, so packing to leave was simple.
At nine in the morning, Gao Yuan officially hit the road.
Li Mengqing was resting in the passenger seat, while the Sheltie lay obediently in the back. Before getting on the highway, Gao Yuan made a point of taking the dog out to relieve itself.
On the seven-hundred-plus-kilometer journey back, Gao Yuan only stopped once at a rest area around noon.
It was after seven in the evening when Gao Yuan finally got back to his home at No.1 Courtyard.
The two of them rested for a moment and had a bite to eat, after which Gao Yuan took out his phone and sent a message to Xiao Xiao, letting her know he was back.
"Oh, you’re back!"
"I’ll come down and get the Sheltie, then! Sorry to have bothered you for so long."
Xiao Xiao replied just a short while after he sent the message.
But Gao Yuan had no intention of letting her come down to get the Sheltie. He still didn’t know much about his landlady, Xiao Xiao. And though he was captivated by her body, he wasn’t ready for her and Li Mengqing to meet.
If they met, Lin Wanyu would find out, too.
It was too soon. Lin Wanyu might have accepted Li Mengqing, but that didn’t necessarily mean she would accept Xiao Xiao’s existence.
"I’ll bring it up!"
Gao Yuan replied to Xiao Xiao, then told Li Mengqing he was taking the Sheltie back to his friend. He got up and started gathering the dog’s belongings.
As he was about to head out, he told Li Mengqing to go get some rest.
When he got upstairs to Xiao Xiao’s apartment, Gao Yuan found the door already open.
He led the Sheltie inside and casually pulled the door shut behind him.
As he walked into the living room, the Sheltie darted toward the balcony.
That’s when Gao Yuan saw Xiao Xiao, reclining on a lounge chair on the balcony, leisurely sipping coffee as she admired the night view.
"Care for some coffee?"
Xiao Xiao pointed to a steaming mug on the table beside her, smiling at Gao Yuan.
Gao Yuan didn’t stand on ceremony. He put down the things he was carrying and sat on the stool beside the table.
He took a sip of the coffee Xiao Xiao had brewed. It was a proper, authentic brew—just what you’d expect from a rich lady.
The two chatted for a while. Gao Yuan asked about Xiao Xiao’s trip to Shanghai and learned a bit about her charity work.
’Once my skincare company takes off, I’ll have to get into charity work too. It’s the best way to build an untouchable reputation.’
As they chatted, Gao Yuan noticed Xiao Xiao occasionally reaching up to rub her neck. He couldn’t help but ask, "Stiff neck?"
Xiao Xiao rotated her neck, wincing. "I slept on it wrong last night."
’An idea suddenly popped into Gao Yuan’s head. A massage. It was the perfect excuse for some physical contact.’
"I know a bit about massage. Want me to give it a try?"
