Super Rich by Doing as You Please
Chapter 709 - 313: In Life and in Death, She Is Xu Yun’s Woman
After what happened last time, who knew if the culprits had any accomplices left.
What if they came seeking revenge?
As Xu Yun entered, all eyes immediately turned to him.
They might not have recognized Xu Yun, but they all knew Fu Baoying.
Everyone could guess that a man who could make one of Hong Kong Island’s most prominent figures willingly play second fiddle was likely the mysterious man backing Fu Baoying.
Their purpose in coming today wasn’t to celebrate some old man’s birthday at all.
To be blunt, it was a party thrown by a mere actor. For any one of them to show up was to give him immense face; otherwise, they would only feel they were lowering themselves.
The only reason they had all come here in tacit agreement, deigning to lower their own status, was because they knew *he* would be here.
They wanted to use this opportunity to see for themselves just what kind of man Fu Baoying’s backer really was.
And now, they saw him.
They were also quite surprised.
A young man who didn’t even look thirty!
Perhaps because of the incident at the abandoned factory, Xu Yun’s aura had undergone a subtle transformation.
As he walked, the presence he exuded was unconsciously much more powerful.
Everyone was wondering the same thing: when had such a formidable man appeared on Hong Kong Island?
They had never heard of him before.
If spending five billion to open an investment company for Fu Baoying was the extent of his power, they would have just written him off as a rich heir with a bit of cash to burn.
After all, many of the magnates present had net worths in the tens of billions. Coming up with five billion wasn’t impossible for them.
But what truly surprised and frightened them was the matter of Fu Baoying’s child’s kidnapping.
The police and the underworld, along with many others, had searched for two days and found nothing. Yet, the moment he arrived, the child was found.
And he had eliminated every single one of the culprits without a soul knowing.
Although there was no direct evidence that the young man before them was responsible, the outcome spoke for itself.
Fu Baoying’s child had returned safely, and that was all the proof they needed.
That kind of power and capability made the assembled magnates fearful and wary.
’What if one of us accidentally provokes Fu Baoying, or this man, in the future? Would we also disappear without a trace, just like those criminals?’
This fear was especially profound for the magnates with ties to the criminal underworld.
Xu Yun led his two women through the crowd to the table that had been reserved for them.
Ruan Qingnian and his family were also there, filling out the table.
Seeing this, the others shifted their gazes to Ruan Guohua, who was at the same table. Many of them didn’t even recognize a minor figure like him.
It was only after others filled them in that they learned he was a shareholder in a film and entertainment company.
His background was a bit shady!
But to people of their stature, he was still a nobody.
After all, even the company’s majority shareholders, the Xiang Family, were barely considered presentable in their eyes.
And yet, a small fry like him was sitting at the same table as that young man.
So, regardless of who he was before, everyone there made a point to remember his face. They wouldn’t cross him lightly from now on.
Some of the old-timers who knew Ruan Guohua, especially the Xiang Family, were feeling particularly conflicted.
It looked as if he had successfully latched onto a powerful backer.
It meant that, from now on, the magnates present would likely treat Ruan Guohua with a completely different attitude than they treated his own boss.
Once the guests had all arrived, Zhang Jin and his wife took the stage. As public figures, they were normally at ease in front of cameras and an audience, but today was different.
The audience below wasn’t made up of ordinary people; every single one of them was a leading magnate on Hong Kong Island.
As a result, they appeared slightly nervous and rushed through their opening remarks.
Next came the time for mingling and socializing.
Xu Yun, Fu Baoying, and the others had planned on leaving right after the meal.
But a constant stream of magnates came over to greet him and offer toasts.
Fu Baoying stood by his side, introducing each person by name and social standing.
Xu Yun, of course, was unfazed. He treated each person politely, but would also add a few words to each of them.
"My wife, President Fu, will be developing her business on Hong Kong Island. I hope you’ll look out for her and lend her a hand.
I’m a man who always repays his favors and always settles his scores."
Everyone understood the meaning behind Xu Yun’s words.
From now on, on Hong Kong Island, President Fu was Xu Yun’s representative.
Giving her face was the same as giving Xu Yun face.
By the same token, causing trouble for her was the same as causing trouble for Xu Yun.
These magnates had taken the initiative to show goodwill, which should have been more than enough to give Xu Yun face. They never expected to receive a soft-spoken warning in return.
For a young man to dare speak to them—a bunch of old-timers—like that, it meant one of two things. Either he was a newborn calf unafraid of the tiger...
...or he possessed such absolute power and confidence that he didn’t need to pay them any mind at all.
None of them were willing to gamble on which it was, so they could only swallow their pride.
In other words, unless it was absolutely unavoidable, it was better to concede, show goodwill, and treat it as making a new friend.
Failing that, they could at least mind their own business and let everyone make their own fortunes in peace.
Fu Baoying had never, ever imagined that Xu Yun would introduce her to outsiders this way, directly calling her his ’wife’.
Then there was the warning he had issued on her behalf—a warning to the very same magnates she once had to look up to, the ones she wouldn’t have dared to offend.
Every little thing filled her heart with an indescribable sweetness and happiness.
